Chapter 30 Octopus (1/2)

Yang Yufen rushed into the greenhouse, picked out the fattest chicken, and slaughtered it.

I originally planned to fatten it up further until the New Year, but now my daughter-in-law is more important. Anyway, it's already two or three pounds, so I'll stew it enough for her.

Buying meat is so difficult, it's much faster to kill a chicken and eat it.

Even after cleaning, it was still fatter than a pigeon. It was stewed on the stove, and Yang Yufen pedaled her tricycle to go to the market to take another look.

Yang Yufen hadn't even noticed anyone when she went outside; someone had to call her to stop.

"Aunt Yang! Aunt Yang!"

"Oh, it's you. You've come to return the stove. Just leave it at the security office; I'll pick it up when I get back."

Yang Yufen immediately recognized him as Xiao Zhang.

"Yes, Auntie, this is your New Year's gift. I brought it early because I was afraid I would be too busy to visit you later. Thank you so much."

Yang Yufen initially wanted to refuse, but upon seeing that it was crucian carp slices, she immediately couldn't resist.

“Okay, when the sweet potatoes are harvested next year, if you still want to sell them, I’ll order some for you. The one who grows the sweet potatoes is my godson; you can’t find him anywhere else.”

"Really? That's great! Auntie likes crucian carp. These are raised in my cousin's village. I'll send you some more later."

"I can't just take yours for free. My daughter-in-law is pregnant, so I'm thinking of finding some good stuff."

"It's almost the end of the year and we need to clean the ponds. If you have a place to raise them, I can see if I can get you some more eels and loaches."

Xiao Zhang's mind worked incredibly fast. He asked his cousin to deliver the sweet potatoes to him, and then he made another trip to secure the roasted sweet potato business for next year. It was a good deal!

“That’s good. I’ll just get a tank. Here’s five yuan for you. If you have any big fish, get a few too, we can make preserved fish. I’m not in a hurry to use this stove, but you can use it if you need it.”

"Auntie, please take the money back. To be honest, I really wanted to borrow more from you. I only brought it here because I was afraid you would need it."

"Okay, if there are too many fish, I'll ask if anyone else wants some. Come here at this time tomorrow morning, and I'll tell you how many you want."

"That's wonderful, thank you on behalf of my cousin."

His cousin's eldest son has now been dragged along to sell roasted sweet potatoes. They also roast sunflower seeds, peanuts, and chestnuts together, and sell popcorn. Business is booming.

When Xiao Zhang returned home, he told his nephew.

"Uncle, really? I can set up my own stall now?"

"Yes, I've already discussed it with Aunt Zhao. She'll continue to rent the stove to us, but we won't have to pay the rent. Her daughter-in-law is pregnant, and she's thinking of getting some fish and meat to nourish her."

“I’ll go back and tell my dad right away. Anyway, he can’t sell his pond of fish for much money.”

"Aren't you afraid of getting beaten by your dad for saying that? Could all of you brothers have been raised without that pond?"

"Hehe, I just didn't want him to work too hard. My mom got sick from exhaustion."

That's why they say uncles and nephews are in such difficult circumstances.

With fish in hand, Yang Yufen was no longer in a hurry to buy meat.

Yang Yufen caught another chicken, but this time she didn't kill it; she just put it in a basket and took it to the Wang family.

Anyway, one is enough to eat, so having one more won't make a big difference. Wang Dameizi has more vegetables in her greenhouse than she can eat. Before, Wang Dameizi didn't want to raise them because she was alone, but now that there are two more people in the family, she can manage to raise them.

"Godmother."

"Xiao Fang is home today too."

"I got a day off yesterday. How is your wife? I was just about to go see her when you arrived."

Fang Fen lifted the curtain to let Yang Yufen into the room.

"She's doing well, it's just that the work is too tiring. Luckily, she's on vacation now, she'll go back to work after the New Year when she's recovered."

Yang Yufen's smile never faded, and it was clear that it wasn't a forced smile; it seemed she was truly alright.

"Here, I caught a little hen for you. The kids can raise it and play with it. It will start laying eggs in two months when it gets warmer."
