Chapter 424: Family (Script 10)

Gu Xi lowered his eyes and looked at Shen Xiangyang.

He looked at Shen Xiangyang's slightly furrowed brows, at the tiny beads of sweat oozing from the tip of Shen Xiangyang's nose, and at Shen Xiangyang's lips slightly opening and closing because of concentration... The tingling in his arm seemed to be strangely isolated, leaving only a gentle, electric-like tingling sensation that spread from the touched skin all the way to the tip of his heart.

The air was so quiet that the only sounds left were the rustling of leaves in the evening breeze and each other's rapid breathing.

The two of them were very close, so close that Gu Xi could smell the clean scent of soapberries on him.

Shen Xiangyang's bandaging movements were very gentle. He wrapped the gauze in circles, and his slender fingertips would occasionally inadvertently brush against the intact skin on Gu Xi's upper arm, causing a slight shudder.

Finally, tie a small, neat knot on the white gauze, and the bandage is completely completed.

After doing all this, Shen Xiangyang breathed a sigh of relief. He raised his eyes and met Gu Xi's gaze in the air.

Gu Xi's eyes today are different from before.

There were too many emotions in those eyes that Shen Xiangyang couldn't understand, there was a lingering fear, there was a bottomless heartache, and there was also a kind of... a burning desire that was almost about to break out of the ground.

Shen Xiangyang was burned by Gu Xi's scorching gaze. He lowered his eyelids in panic, his long eyelashes trembling violently, but a thin layer of red appeared on his cheeks uncontrollably.

"alright……"

Shen Xiangyang's voice was a little tense, and he quickly withdrew his hand and picked up the used cotton balls and bottles, his movements showing a bit of concealed panic.

Gu Xi's Adam's apple rolled.

He moved his bandaged arm, and somewhere in his heart was tightly wrapped by the soft gauze, feeling incredibly safe.

He looked at Shen Xiangyang's drooping head, his voice low and hoarse, with a kind of exhaustion after surviving a disaster, but also very clear:

"Next time something like this happens, don't carry it alone..."

The breeze blew Gu Xi’s gentle voice into Shen Xiangyang’s ears: “I’m here.”

Shen Xiangyang paused while packing his things, without looking up, but nodded imperceptibly.

The desperate roar from Shen Guozhu on the phone came back to his mind, and Shen Xiangyang's face turned pale again in an instant.

"Xiangyang?"

Gu Xi keenly noticed the drastic change in his mood.

"I...I have to go home."

Shen Xiangyang’s voice was filled with undisguised fear and anxiety, “My grandma…is critically ill.”

"I send you."

He said it without hesitation, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

Passing through several alleys filled with the smell of damp mold and the sour smell of garbage, Gu Xi followed Shen Xiangyang and stopped in front of an old tube-shaped building with mottled and peeling walls.

There were piles of broken bicycles and miscellaneous items at the entrance of the corridor.

Shen Xiangyang's home is on the third floor.

When he pushed open the wooden door with peeling paint, a mixture of cheap tobacco, leftover food, and damp and moldy smell hit him in the face, making Gu Xi subconsciously hold his breath.

The room was very small and had very poor lighting, with only a small window facing the wall of the next building.

The furniture in Shen Xiangyang's house was so old that its original color could no longer be seen: a wooden table with peeling paint, two wobbly stools, and an old cupboard covered with grease.

Empty wine bottles and miscellaneous items were piled in the corner, and a few faded old photos hung on the wall.

The only thing that looked a little "new" was an old desk in the corner with a brick supporting one leg. Books and test papers were neatly stacked on it, and there was a desk lamp that was wiped clean - that was Shen Xiangyang's little piece of pure land.

The room was empty.

There is no critically ill grandmother, and no anxious father.

Shen Xiangyang was stunned. He rushed to the closed door of the inner room and pushed it open violently. There was only a bed piled with dirty bedding and a wardrobe that smelled strongly of alcohol.

"Grandma... Dad?"

Shen Xiangyang’s voice sounded particularly weak in the empty and dilapidated house, with an incredible confusion and gradually rising panic.

Just then, staggering footsteps were heard in the corridor, accompanied by a few drunken tunes.

The footsteps stopped at the door, and the key fiddled with the keyhole a few times, making a harsh scraping sound.

The door was pushed open with a "clang", and the strong smell of cheap liquor rushed in first.

Shen Guozhu is back.

His cheeks were flushed, his eyes were cloudy, his clothes were stained with oil and dust, and he was holding a bottle of cheap white wine in his hand.

Shen Guozhu obviously didn't expect that there was someone at home. When he saw Gu Xi, a stranger who was well-dressed and had a cold temperament, he was stunned for a moment. Then a barely perceptible gleam flashed in his turbid eyes, like a hyena that smelled something.

"Hey? Yangyang is back?"

Shen Guozhu burped, his voice unclear, but his eyes were like sticky spider silk, scanning Gu Xi unscrupulously, from head to toe, and finally landing on the expensive watch on his wrist.

Greed and calculation appeared almost undisguised on his alcohol-swollen face.

Shen Xiangyang stood up straight abruptly, his chest heaving violently, his eyes burning with two clusters of cold flames, staring intently at his father.

He pointed at the empty bed, his voice hoarse and trembling with extreme anger and disappointment:

"Where's grandma? Didn't you say she was critically ill?! Where is she now?!"

Shen Guozhu was stunned by his son's unprecedented fierce questioning, and then an extremely unruly expression appeared on his swollen face.

He waved the bottle in his hand nonchalantly, as if to shoo away a fly. "Tsk, what are you yelling about? I'm doing this for your own good. If I hadn't said this, would you have come back obediently?"

He grinned, revealing his smoke-yellow teeth, and shamelessly leaned closer to Shen Xiangyang, the strong smell of alcohol spraying on his face: "I heard you made a 'rich friend'?"

Shen Guozhu deliberately dragged out the words "rich friend" and glanced at Gu Xi next to him: "That's perfect! I'm really short of money lately. Your friend is so generous, can you lend me some money to spend in an emergency?"

The calculation on his face was clear.

The deputy's attitude of treating his own son as a cash cow completely ignited the anger that had been suppressed in Shen Xiangyang's heart for many years.
