The relocation days passed by unnoticed, and the journey was similar to before. Because the base was quite large, the animals that attacked were all rather ferocious.
The journey was much faster than expected; in 22 days, we were almost at the vicinity of the oil field.
Because nothing is currently known about what's near the oil field, the base doesn't dare to go there rashly.
"Haidong, take a team and take a helicopter to check the situation," Xiao Lin calmly instructed on the next task.
Hai Dong and Wang Qiyang, along with three others, conducted aerial reconnaissance in a helicopter, while Ling Feng, along with three others, explored the land in an off-road vehicle.
The main camp remained in place to rest.
The exploration team split into three groups, rapidly deploying on land and in the air. The tense atmosphere within the base seemed to spread throughout the entire oil field area. Xia He also nervously watched out the window.
Xiao Lin's mental exploration was unable to detect the surrounding situation for some reason, as if it was blocked by some kind of force.
Xiao Lin told Xia He about the current situation, so he decided to go out by land alone with Xia He to investigate.
As Xiao Lin and Xia He drove to the oil field, the sound of a helicopter broke the silence and rang out in their communicator.
Hai Dong's voice, accompanied by the sound of a helicopter, said, "Boss, we found an abandoned research laboratory near the oil field. It seems no one has been inside for many years."
"Have you found any living organisms?" Xia He asked.
"Nothing has been found so far," Hai Dong replied.
“Tell me the location.” Xiao Lin’s eyes flashed with a cold light.
Hai Dong provided the coordinates of the abandoned laboratory, and Xia He and Xiao Lin immediately adjusted their speed and headed towards the target location. The off-road vehicle bumped along the small roads of the oil field, and they could feel the tension in the air even in the darkness.
Soon, the two arrived at the vicinity of the abandoned laboratory. The laboratory, clearly weathered by time, appeared old and mysterious. The surrounding silent oil fields seemed even more tranquil against the backdrop of the laboratory.
"Let's get out of the car and take a look." Xiao Lin calmly got out of the car, and Xia He followed suit.
"Is mental exploration still not usable?" Xia He asked.
"If we can't detect anything, the two of us will go in. Be careful." Xiao Lin's tone was very stern.
Xia He didn't even bring her two little ones on this trip. Xia He's sixth sense told her that this place was definitely not simple.
The two cautiously approached the laboratory, bypassing the door. Xia He touched the laboratory wall and sensed a musty, old smell.
"It looks like no one has been here for a long time," Xia He said softly.
Suddenly, a faint sound came from inside the laboratory, and both of them turned their gazes inward. In the darkness, they saw a slightly ajar door, letting in a sliver of light, as if inviting them to explore.
Xia He and Xiao Lin exchanged a glance, then walked together toward the slightly ajar laboratory door. As they approached, they sensed a strange aura permeating the air, causing an unusual tension.
Pushing open the laboratory door, a simply furnished lab comes into view in the dim light. Old equipment is scattered everywhere, and the test tubes and experimental instruments on the table seem to retain traces of a long time ago.
"The equipment in this lab looks like it's from a long time ago," Xia He said softly.
Xiao Lin nodded, intently surveying his surroundings. Suddenly, their gaze was drawn to a door deep within the laboratory, from which a faint light emanated.
“Perhaps the clues we need are there,” Xiao Lin said, and the two slowly walked towards the door. Pushing open the door, they saw a fairly spacious room, with light emanating from a luminous device in the center of the room.
In the center of the room stood a complex control panel, its screen displaying strange patterns and symbols. Xiao Lin approached the control panel, staring intently at the screen, while Xia He observed from the side.
“This appears to be an advanced experimental device, but I don’t know its specific purpose,” Xiao Lin said, frowning.
Just then, the image on the control panel suddenly changed, and a blurry projection appeared in the air. The projection showed an elderly scientist with a serious expression.
"Hello, by the time you see this video I will already be gone. What I am about to say is very important, so please listen carefully, survivors!"
In 2010, I detected that Earth would suffer a devastating blow in the future, so I have been searching for new hope for humanity's survival.
However, my experiment failed, and disaster was imminent, though I didn't know when it would strike. I had hoped to alter human genes to enable them to adapt to the new Earth's environment.
But I created…”
Before the person in the video could finish speaking about what he had created, the scientist suddenly turned ferocious, letting out a chilling growl from his throat. Then, his eyes widened in horror, turning bloodshot, filled with fanaticism and madness, like an awakened zombie!
At this moment, a young scientist noticed something was wrong with the elderly scientist and immediately went to check on him.
However, the old man suddenly bit the young scientist's neck, and an evil force seemed to be transmitted to the young scientist's body through the bite.
The young scientist's eyes gradually filled with fanaticism and desire, and he bit his colleague next to him, unfolding a horrifying infection process.
In the footage, the faces of the young scientist and the elderly man become distorted and terrifying, their limbs emitting roaring sounds, as if they have fallen into a state of immortality. As the camera falls, the entire laboratory is filled with urgent red alarms, accompanied by shouts of lockdown orders, and the scene descends into chaos.
