However, the mutated plant's spiked defenses were exceptionally strong. Xia He tried to cut through the spikes with her Green Dragon Crescent Blade, but the crystal-like material was incredibly hard, leaving only faint marks.
"These thorns are too hard! My attacks can't even cut them!" Xia He shouted a warning, and the two began searching for the mutated plant's weak points during the battle. Xiao Lin focused his observation and discovered that the joints of the mutated plant's trunk seemed somewhat unusual.
“Xia He, look there!” He pointed to the joint of the mutated plant, where there seemed to be a tiny crack.
Xia He and Xiao Lin simultaneously looked at the indicated location and discovered that a trace of blue liquid was slowly flowing out from a tiny crack at the junction of the mutated plant's trunk. The flow of this blue liquid seemed to be closely related to the mutated plant's vitality.
"Let's try attacking somewhere and see if we can weaken its defenses," Xia He guessed.
The two immediately concentrated their firepower, using their spiritual energy and the Green Dragon Crescent Blade to bombard the tiny crack.
The crack at the junction of the mutated plant's trunk suddenly widened, and blue liquid gushed out, causing the mutated plant to tremble violently. Disrupted by this attack, the zombies temporarily lost control of themselves.
Xia He and Xiao Lin quickly saw their opportunity, wielding their Green Dragon Crescent Blade and spiritual power respectively, launching a fierce attack on the mutated plant. Xia He's blade slashed cracks across the plant's surface, while Xiao Lin's spiritual power penetrated its outer layer, attacking its interior.
The mutated plant emitted a sharp scream, and the thorns on its branches began to lose their hardness, becoming brittle. Xia He and Xiao Lin seized the opportunity, relentlessly attacking the mutated plant's weaknesses.
Suddenly, a violent tremor came from the joint of the mutated plant's trunk, the cracks widened rapidly, and the entire mutated plant began to disintegrate. The moment the vines broke, a huge roar was heard, fragments flew everywhere, and the spikes became crystal clear, losing their previous hard texture.
After the plants went out of control, the zombies descended into chaos; some quickly collapsed into a heap, while others turned to attack each other. Xia He and Xiao Lin swiftly dealt with the zombies around them, nipping the danger in the bud.
"It seems that attacking its connection point is an effective method." Xia He breathed a sigh of relief.
Xiao Lin nodded, "We need to take advantage of the chaos and quickly enter the abandoned research institute to find useful information."
The two joined forces again and broke through the gates of the abandoned research facility. The facility was filled with a stifling atmosphere and eerily silent. They cautiously made their way inside, prepared to face any new dangers that might arise.
"It seems that all the zombies that came before have disappeared," Xia He said.
"Indeed, it seems there are quite a few secrets within this research institute."
The two moved cautiously forward, keeping an eye on their surroundings. The atmosphere inside the abandoned research institute was eerie, with strange noises emanating from it from time to time. They passed through empty laboratories, seeing piles of documents and research equipment on the tables, seemingly evidence of past bustling activity.
Xia He suddenly stopped and listened intently. She sensed a faint airflow, seemingly coming from somewhere.
“There’s a wind, and it’s blowing from that direction,” Xia He said, pointing towards a room.
The two walked towards the room, pushed open the half-closed door, and found it unusually dark inside. Xia He conjured a blue light, illuminating the interior of the room.
The room was filled with various instruments and equipment, and a huge projection screen hung on the wall, displaying strange charts and data. In the center of the room was a very complex-looking machine, emitting a faint blue glow.
Xiao Lin stared at the equipment. "It looks like a laboratory, probably a place conducting research on the zombie virus."
Xia He looked around. "But why do I suddenly feel a breeze? There are no windows here."
Suddenly, Xia He noticed a small, inconspicuous door in the corner of the room. The door was tightly closed, without the slightest gap, but Xia He could feel a faint breeze coming from it.
"Perhaps the answer lies behind this small door." Xia He walked towards the small door and tried to open it. However, the door was exceptionally sturdy and could not be pushed or pulled.
"Looks like it'll take some effort." Xiao Lin stepped forward to help, and the two of them worked together to finally open the small door. Behind the door was a dimly lit corridor, with a breeze blowing from its depths.
"We have to go in and take a look," Xia He said. Without hesitation, the two walked into the depths of the corridor. They walked in the dimly lit corridor, surrounded by an old and dull atmosphere.
The rickety lamps hanging on the wall and the occasional faint noises added to the mystery of the environment.
At the end of the corridor was a half-open door. Through the crack, Xia He and Xiao Lin could see a computer emitting a faint light in the room inside. They exchanged a glance and cautiously pushed the door open.
The room was dimly lit, with only the flickering light from the computer screen. It was filled with various computer devices, but the most striking feature was an old-fashioned computer on the desk in the center of the room, its screen displaying a very old video.
Xia He and Xiao Lin walked to the computer, and the images on the screen caught their attention. The video showed some experiments conducted by the research institute, including tests on the zombie virus and research on mutated plants.
The audio in the video gradually became clearer, and a researcher's voice came through: "We have successfully extracted samples of the zombie virus, and these mutated plants seem to resonate with the zombies in some way. We are trying to explore the relationship between them."
