Chapter 217 Earthquake

"We need to go out and take a look." Xia He put the two little ones into her space, then swayed. The ground was shaking so badly that it was hard to stand steadily. Xiao Lin supported Xia He, and the two of them walked out of the base together.

The base is relatively well-constructed; apart from cracks, the overall structure has not collapsed.

The two walked outwards, and no one was injured due to the collapse of the base. Instead, many people were injured by falling objects or by swaying and falling because the ground was too shaky.

The good thing is that most people have taken refuge in the Golden Triangle area, and people's sense of crisis is still quite good.

What we're worried about now is the horde of zombies outside the base.

The ground tremors were no longer as severe as before, so Xia He and Xiao Lin quickly ran out of the base. They were met with a stench of zombies, accompanied by angry roars.

"Xia He, we have to hurry!" Xiao Lin grabbed Xia He's hand tightly and ran towards the safe zone on the outskirts of the base.

The base's defensive wall was already crumbling due to the earthquake, and zombies kept pouring into the base through the breach. Xiao Lin and Xia He picked up their weapons and fought the zombies relentlessly.

Their weapons slashed through the air, each strike filled with a chilling aura, aimed straight for the zombies' heads. However, Xia He and Xiao Lin's strength was far from enough, and other superhumans joined the battle. The zombies continued to attack, and many people were already injured.

The zombies even broke through one of the defenses and began to penetrate deeper into the base, with the sounds of fighting and shrill howls intertwining in the air.

"Close the base entrance!" Xiao Lin shouted.

The zombies were about to rush into the base. Most of the people inside were ordinary survivors, whose fighting power was no match for those with superpowers. Moreover, many people had already been injured in the recent earthquake. If the zombies broke in, the consequences would be unimaginable!

The base entrance slowly closed, and Xiao Lin and Xia He led the remaining superhumans in a desperate battle against the zombies. The defensive wall was already on the verge of collapse and could not hold off the zombies for long.

Xia He flew into the air and still used the fireball burning tactic. All's fair in war. After burning, Xiao Lin used lightning balls and water balls. Most of the zombies died under the attack of Xia He and Xiao Lin. Fortunately, there were far fewer zombies than before. They had been killed by the people at the base, and the killing went relatively smoothly.

Xiao Lin took out his phone, intending to contact Professor Fu to reinforce the defensive wall. However, the base's network was down after the earthquake. With no other option, he took out his old communicator, hoping someone still had it with them.

Xiao Lin had just been transferred to Professor Fu when Professor Fu answered, "Xiao Lin, the base's internet is down. Is everything alright outside?"

"The situation is not optimistic. We must reinforce the defensive walls immediately, otherwise we will not be able to withstand the endless stream of zombies. Is there any extra metal material in the base?" Xiao Lin asked anxiously.

"Yes, we've collected quite a bit of material recently from the second phase of construction. Are we starting reinforcement now?" Professor Fu asked nervously.

“Yes, we must reinforce it now, otherwise the zombies will pour in through the breach and we won’t be able to kill them all,” Xiao Lin replied.

"Okay, I'll have someone send the materials out now," Professor Fu said, giving instructions to his subordinates.

"Leave the repairs to me. Just make sure the injured residents are properly settled within the base," Xiao Lin said.

Xiao Lin then hung up the communicator and turned back to fight the zombies.

These zombies aren't particularly strong offensively, but their sheer number drains everyone's spiritual energy and abilities. Anyone touched by even a small amount of the virus will become infected, so no one dares to let their guard down and everyone is fighting desperately.

A short while later, the gate to the base opened again, and a batch of metal materials were delivered. This time, Xiao Lin did not have anyone build a defensive wall.

Everyone watched Xiao Lin's movements with tension. His fingers trembled slightly as he took a deep breath. Suddenly, the metallic material surrounding him rose up and floated in mid-air.

Xiao Lin concentrated all his mental energy, condensing his spiritual power into a ball. The spiritual power began to surge. Xiao Lin waved his hands, and a silver light surged from his palms, condensing into a vortex-shaped energy vortex.

His brows furrowed slightly, and fine beads of sweat dripped from his forehead, because this repair not only required a huge amount of spiritual power, but also highly concentrated mental power.

He focused his attention on the scattered metal fragments on the ground. Layers of energy enveloped the metal, and gradually, the fragments began to float up. With the change of Xiao Lin's hand gestures, these metal pieces were guided and slowly floated in the air.

A large circle of silver energy formed around the previously damaged defensive wall. A series of faint tremors began to emanate from Xiao Lin, seemingly a resonance between spiritual energy and the metal fragments.

Then, the silver light instantly condensed to its peak, as dazzling as the sun, so bright that everyone had to close their eyes.

In a flash of silver light, energy and metal fragments surged toward the defensive wall like a tide, embedding themselves and merging with it. Each metal fragment seemed to be positioned according to some pattern, forming a solid and uniform defensive structure.

The entire process resembled a meticulous engineering project, with Xiao Lin's control and manipulation of spiritual energy being incredibly precise. However, after completing the repairs, he lost his support due to the enormous expenditure of spiritual energy and fell from the sky to the ground.

Everyone opened their eyes and witnessed that the previously dilapidated defensive wall had been completely transformed, gleaming with a powerful metallic luster. It was no longer in a precarious state, but rather an indestructible barrier. The metallic material had disappeared, yet the repair of the defensive wall was so perfect.
