"Is this... really a base?" Ayin looked at the surrounding environment, clearly frightened. She had been transferred directly from the research institute to the fortress, and then followed Xia He, living a life of luxury. This was the first time she had seen such a real post-apocalyptic base.
It's clear that I'm not used to it.
The sky was dark and gloomy, without moon or stars, and the entire base was silent and desolate. This area in the darkness seemed to have been forgotten by time, showing a desolate and bleak atmosphere, giving people a sense of loss and loneliness.
The base under the cover of night was eerily quiet, without a single sound except for the rustling of the wind and the swaying of the trees, creating an inexplicable sense of oppression. The overall environment appeared desolate and bleak, sending chills down one's spine.
"This base is a bit eerie, everyone be careful," Xia He warned. After saying that, she gave Xiao Hua and A Yin a smile, which even looked a little eerie under the dim yellow light. Xiao Hua and A Yin couldn't help but shiver.
Xia He led Xiao Hua, A Yin, and the two little ones toward the base. It seemed to be nighttime at the base. Xia He checked her phone and saw it was 10 p.m.
"I don't know if there's anywhere in the base we can go now, since it's already 10 pm. But let's go check it out first," Xia He said to the two of them.
The three of them wandered around, looking for road signs, but there was no one to guide them along the way.
"The guards at the gate didn't even say anything about where we're going," Xiaohua said, dissatisfied.
"Shh, maybe someone's watching us." Xia He continued with a strange smile, making A Yin and Xiao Hua feel uneasy.
The environment surrounding the base did indeed give off an eerie and desolate feeling, especially at night, when the eeriness intensified in the stillness. Under the cover of darkness, the base appeared even more sinister and terrifying, as if concealing some unknown secret.
Xia He's smile seemed particularly unusual in this environment, and Xiao Hua and A Yin felt a strange pressure and unease. They walked in this stillness without making a sound, except for the rustling of leaves in the wind, which added to the claustrophobic and oppressive atmosphere.
As night fell, Xia He and her companions finally found the base's main hall. In the darkness, only a few dim lights barely illuminated the surroundings, and the hall was deserted.
The hall appeared unusually desolate and dilapidated, with a chilling atmosphere permeating the empty room. Dim yellow light cast shadows on the old walls, revealing the room's dilapidated state. Tables and chairs were scattered haphazardly, some even overturned on the floor, and messy documents were piled up in the corners.
The hall was deserted, like a ghost town, filled with an unsettling silence and loneliness. At night, only dim lighting and desolation remained; there was no longer any sign that this was a place where people used to come and go.
"What's going on?" Xiaohua asked incredulously, looking at the empty service hall.
Ayin also seemed confused and uneasy, "Is no one in charge of this base? What's going on here?"
Xia He quietly surveyed her surroundings, the dim light making her feel uneasy. "Something seems off about this base; it shouldn't be this deserted."
While feeling uneasy, Xia He also experienced a surge of excitement and stimulation, causing her adrenaline to spike.
Just as the three people and two dogs were about to leave the service hall, the door suddenly closed by itself.
Xia He spoke up, "So you finally couldn't resist and are going to show up, huh?"
Xia He was met with a strange laugh that echoed in the empty service hall.
The sudden burst of laughter made the entire service hall seem even more desolate and eerie, echoing in the empty room. The laughter was sometimes low and sometimes sharp, sending chills down one's spine.
Ayin's face turned pale as she stared at Xiahe and Xiaohua in horror. "What's going on? Why is there such a sound?"
Xiaohua frowned slightly, looking around uneasily. "Could this be a prank? Or is someone playing a trick on us?"
Xia He snorted coldly, "Come out, stop playing tricks. Let's see what you're made of."
Xia He was met with a mocking laugh followed by an attack. Following the sound, a powerful energy surge suddenly erupted from a dark corner of the service hall. A shockwave of dark energy swiftly struck the three people and the two children.
Xia He hurriedly protected Xiao Hua and A Yin, gathering her spiritual power in her palms to resist the powerful dark energy.
As the dark power drew closer, Xia He felt an intense sense of oppression.
"Goodness, you've actually made me feel pressured. Alright, alright, then I'll play with you for a bit." Xia He's lips curled into a wicked smile.
But just as the energy surge was about to hit them, a shimmering halo suddenly enveloped the three people and their two pets, keeping the dark power at bay.
"Dark energy! This is interesting," Xia He exclaimed.
Xia He's aura began to fluctuate more intensely, transforming into a dazzling bright light that spread around her, forming a protective shield that firmly blocked the dark energy from the outside.
As the dark power intensified, Xia He began to unleash her inner strength to resist it. She felt no fear, but rather a hint of excitement, as if she had come prepared for this challenge.
Following this dark energy, Xia He felt a surge of excitement and challenge.
“This dark energy is interesting.” Xia He’s eyes flickered; she realized this was a challenge worth looking forward to.
