Ayin finished washing up quickly. Xiahe thoughtfully gave him a lot of clean clothes, which were hanging on the wardrobe in the RV. After Ayin finished washing up, he took over driving from Xiahe.
The three people and two dogs continued on their way, not knowing where they were going, so they wandered around aimlessly. However, in order to find their way back to the base, Xia He marked her route with her mobile phone along the way.
The journey was relatively smooth, though zombie attacks continued. Since the last earthquake, the zombie horde had expanded, and Xia He estimated it had probably spread throughout the country by now. She wondered if Professor Fu had developed a suppressant yet. If the zombies continued to grow, the situation was not optimistic, especially with Ayin...
Xia He felt a little worried when she thought of A Yin. She wondered if A Yin might suddenly lose consciousness and turn into a zombie king. However, so far, things had gone relatively smoothly.
After driving for an unknown amount of time, all three of them felt a bit tired. So Xiahe asked Ayin to park the car on the side of the road. After checking that there were no mutated animals or zombies nearby, they started to set out food.
Xia He and her two companions felt no sense of urgency about being in the apocalypse. The car was warm, and with their friends and pets by their side, Xia He even felt like she was going on a trip.
Of course, this is assuming we ignore the cold wind and darkness outside the window, as well as the occasional roars of mutated animals or zombies.
Xia He set up the living room table in the RV and was thinking about what to eat tonight. Xiao Hua's mouth was already very picky, and she had eaten everything she wanted to eat. So she gave Xia He a casual answer. As for A Yin, she naturally had no idea either and just followed Xia He.
So Xiahe finally set up a barbecue grill and took out a small range hood, placing it next to the grill.
Then they brought out a vegetable rack, filled with trendy, fresh dishes from before the apocalypse: grilled cheese sticks, beef wrapped in cheese sticks, grilled avocado, cheese beef short ribs, cheese corn dumplings, grape and beef skewers, toast...
These are all takeout dishes from trendy restaurants before the apocalypse. Because the portions were small, they hadn't been brought out before. Now that they're out, it turns out they're a paradise for cheese lovers.
Not only that, Xia He also brought out a cabinet full of drinks, snacks, and fruits for A Yin and Xiao Hua to choose from.
This is definitely a self-service barbecue party in a motorhome!
After dinner, Xia He even suggested going to karaoke together. The three of them laughed and chatted happily, as if they had forgotten that they were in the apocalypse.
The cozy night came to an end, and Xiahe began to set up the beds for the three people and the dog. The large bed at the back of the RV was undoubtedly for Xiahe, and the two little ones were also with Xiahe. At the front of the vehicle, there was an overhead bed, which Xiahe assigned to Ayin, but Xiaohua was not happy about it. In the end, the overhead bed was given to Xiaohua.
Ayin slept on a bed made of dining tables pushed together in the living room.
This time, Xia He didn't bring the previous luxury RV, but a regular RV, which still had very strong defensive capabilities.
The main reason was that the luxury RV was too eye-catching on the road. Xia He wanted to keep a low profile this time. The next morning, after they woke up, they prepared to set off again. Although it was early, it was pitch black all around, and there was no distinction between day and night now.
After a quick breakfast, the three of them continued their journey, wandering aimlessly without a destination. Suddenly, A-Yin spotted a place that looked like a small town ahead.
"Let's go check it out," Xia He said. A Yin obediently drove the RV over to the entrance of the town, where they found guards who stopped their vehicle.
The guard at the entrance said, "Where are you from? This is the Black Cat Base. You can get supplies by entering the base. Each person will receive 10 catties of grain or 2 pieces of mutated animal essence cores."
The guard looked the RV up and down.
Xia He felt very uncomfortable with that look, but she wanted to go in and take a look.
The guards told the group to get off the bus and get their ID cards. This Black Cat Base was incomparable to their own base. Although the official bases had all become their private bases due to the post-apocalyptic disconnection, their foundations remained.
The identity cards for Xia He and the other two were extremely simple; they were just plain cards with their names on them.
As for Tangyuan and the panda, Xia He didn't plan to hide them this time. After all, being able to drive a motorhome at this time of year means that they have some strength. Moreover, the panda and Tangyuan are mutated animals, so Xia He doesn't intend to hide them.
The three people handed over 30 jin of coarse grains, which were sweet potatoes and potatoes grown at the base.
Xia He and the others got into the car and continued driving into the base. When they passed a parking lot, they signaled to A Yin to drive the car in. However, A Yin, who was still a novice driver, couldn't reverse into the parking space no matter what she tried.
So Xia He went to park the car.
The three people and two dogs got out of the car and looked around at their surroundings.
The base was shrouded in polar night, and darkness enveloped the area. The location of the RV seemed somewhat eerie, with only a few scattered vehicles nearby, all of which were dilapidated. The houses within the base appeared to be ancient and had also been ravaged by the apocalypse, with most of the buildings in a state of disrepair.
Rows of houses, some leaning, some with peeling walls, give the overall impression of ruins. Patches of paint remain on the walls, some windows are broken, and the paint has long since faded, making the scene appear dilapidated and desolate.
Weeds grew rampant, and the flowers and plants in the courtyard were overgrown and messy. The surrounding environment was almost completely desolate. Some houses even had dilapidated walls around them, showing the erosion of time and the traces of ruins.
