The two men worked together to cast the fishing net, and the rope was slowly released from Lin Chaosheng's hands.
Lin Shansheng stared nervously at the calm sea, his heart pounding.
The waiting time made Lin Shansheng anxious. He began to regret listening to his elder brother. He should have followed those experienced old fishermen; at least they wouldn't have returned empty-handed.
"Close the net!" Just as Lin Shansheng was feeling frustrated, Lin Chaosheng suddenly gave the order.
The two brothers began to pull the net together, and as soon as Lin Shansheng exerted force, he felt tremendous resistance from below.
Lin Shansheng was startled. "Brother, did you get caught on a rock?"
Lin Chaosheng, his hands bulging with veins from the exertion, gasped, "It's not a reef, pull harder!"
As the fishing net was slowly pulled up, huge waves rolled across the sea, and a silvery fish tail gradually appeared before Lin Shansheng.
"Fish!" Lin Shansheng exclaimed in surprise at the sight before him. "So many fish!"
When the entire net was pulled up, Lin Shansheng was stunned and speechless.
After the fish were pulled up from the net, their silvery tails slapped against the fishing boat, making a "slap slap" sound.
Lin Shansheng counted in shock, the more he counted, the more unbelievable it became.
The fishing net hauled up more than three hundred fish!
Lin Shan stood there dumbfounded, his jaw almost dropping.
Lin Chaosheng was surprised when he saw the fish, but he quickly started throwing them into the bucket.
"Brother, brother, slap me... Am I really not dreaming?" Lin Shansheng still couldn't believe it.
Lin Chaosheng turned to look at Lin Shansheng's dumbfounded expression and burst out laughing, "It's true! Stop standing there like an idiot and come help!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Shansheng quickly stepped forward to help pick the fish into the bucket, counting them as he went, worried that he might have miscounted.
After the two brothers worked together to throw the fish into the bucket, Lin Shansheng put his hands on his hips and couldn't help but praise Lin Chaosheng.
"Brother, are you really my brother? You're fucking awesome!" Lin Shansheng pinched Lin Chaosheng's arm and began to have doubts.
Lin Chaosheng slapped Lin Shansheng on the head: "Go to hell, who else am I if not your brother?"
Lin Shansheng rubbed his head, which had been slapped hard, and muttered, "You were a completely different person before and now... Who would have thought you'd be this awesome now?"
Lin Chaosheng smirked: "Your brother is awesome."
Lin Shansheng pretended to give Lin Chaosheng a back massage: "Yes, yes, brother, you're the best! You're simply a fish god!"
Lin Chaosheng pushed Lin Shansheng away, picked up the oar, and prepared to row back. "Alright, stop joking around, let's go back."
Lin Shansheng gazed longingly at the sea. "Brother, shall we catch some more? We should strike while the iron is hot and catch a hundred or a thousand more."
Lin Chaosheng was actually still reluctant to leave, but Xiao Ba gave him a signal that there were no more fish here.
So there's nothing I can do but come back another time.
Moreover, in this year of famine, catching too many fish at once would definitely cause trouble.
Lin Chaosheng shook his head and said, "It's getting late. Let's hurry back to clean the fish and discuss how to deal with it. Besides, one shouldn't be too greedy."
Lin Shansheng felt even more respect for his elder brother, who used to be a very greedy gambler.
In the past, if his older brother had caught so many fish, his first thought would have been to catch even more and use the money to gamble.
He truly admires Lin Chaosheng from the bottom of his heart now.
Lin Chaosheng and Lin Shansheng rowed their boat to a deserted shore and began sorting and catching the fish.
They caught four or five different kinds of fish this time, and in order to sell them for better value, the two sorted them.
Lin Shansheng's face was beaming as he portioned out the fish. He licked his lips as if he could taste the aroma of the grilled fish.
Lin Chaosheng picked up a small bucket, scooped up a bucket of seawater, and threw in ten fish.
"Take this home and make sure your parents eat it. Don't be stingy; there will be plenty to eat later," Lin Chaosheng instructed Lin Shansheng.
Lin Shansheng nodded, his nose tingling, unsure of what to say.
In the past, he, as the eldest brother, never thought about his parents, but ever since his eldest brother became a better person, he has been bringing home all the good things.
"What are you thinking? Let me tell you, Mom and Dad have to eat this fish. They need to nourish themselves. If they don't want to eat it, then you should cook it all and serve it to them. Mom and Dad hate wasting food the most." Lin Chaosheng winked at Lin Shansheng.
“Brother…” Lin Shansheng wiped away the tears that were about to fall from the corners of his eyes, “You have no idea, back when you were still gambling, a bunch of people in the village would curse you, and when Father and Mother heard about alcohol, they would curse back at them…”
Lin Shansheng choked up, "You really haven't let your parents down..."
Lin Chaosheng's throat tightened as well. He had only given his parents such a small gift, yet they praised him to the skies.
He had never properly respected his parents in his previous life, yet they still remembered him until their deaths.
Lin Chaosheng dared not recall it any longer, for fear that he would burst into tears in front of his younger brother.
"Alright, stop crying. You're a grown man, why are you always crying like this..." Lin Chaosheng swallowed his tears and mocked Lin Shansheng.
Then he called to Lin Shansheng to help push the fish ashore, saying, "You should take this fish back to your parents soon."
"What should we do with the rest of the fish?" Lin Shansheng asked.
"I'll take the rest back for your sister-in-law to eat, and the rest—" Lin Chaosheng began to keep her in suspense.
Lin Shansheng waited anxiously for Lin Chaosheng to reveal his plan.
Lin Chaosheng chuckled softly, "Sold!"
"Sold?" Lin Shansheng exclaimed in shock.
"Shh—keep your voice down!" Lin Chaosheng quickly covered his younger brother's mouth.
"Who are you selling it to?" Lin Shansheng asked in shock.
Lin Chaosheng chuckled, "Of course we'll sell to the villagers." Lin Chaosheng stepped off the boat and waved to Lin Shansheng, "Let's go, let's make some money with your brother!"
Just as they were about to set off to sell their fish, the fishermen who had gone out to sea with them that morning happened to return.
They saw Lin Chaosheng and Lin Shansheng standing there from afar and assumed they were fishermen, so they went back to shore early.
"Oh, who am I looking for? Isn't this the Great Fish God from the Lin family?"
"Hahahaha... a Great Fish God? I think he's more like a God of Misfortune."
"You two! You didn't listen to your elders, and now you're paying the price. See? You insisted on going to that godforsaken South China Sea, and you didn't catch anything."
"Oh dear, some people just don't know their own limitations... so confident at such a young age."
"Hey, if either of you calls me 'Dad,' I'll give you some small fish."
Lin Shansheng glared angrily at the group of snobbish fishermen, wishing he could go up and throw them to the ground and beat them up.
Lin Chaosheng gently patted Lin Shansheng's shoulder, signaling him to calm down.
He then leaned close to Lin Shansheng's ear and whispered, "Why are you getting angry with them? The stuff they took isn't even a fraction of what we had."
