Chapter 273 Intelligence Network
Fang Lanxin replied to Ling Ye's text message: "Seven o'clock tonight, same place."
She put down her phone, her gaze falling on the investigation report about the fourth branch of the family on the table. After Huo Zhenhong was kicked out of the Huo family, he seemingly disappeared without a trace, but she always felt that things weren't that simple.
This man has been running the Huo family business for decades; how could he possibly admit defeat so easily?
"Huo Wen," Fang Lanxin pressed the intercom, "Have you found out anything about the fourth branch's recent movements?"
"We're still investigating." Huo Wen's voice came through the microphone. "Huo Zhenhong has been hiding very well this time; our people have lost track of him several times."
Fang Lanxin frowned. Huo Zhenhong had managed to stay in Hong Kong for so many years; his methods were certainly not simple. Investigating him would likely require more than just conventional methods.
She suddenly thought of Ling Ye.
Although this young man is young, he has been involved in the street racing scene for several years and knows all sorts of people. Perhaps he can be of help.
At 7 p.m. sharp, Fang Lanxin arrived at the agreed-upon restaurant.
Ling Ye was already waiting in the private room. He was dressed in a black casual outfit today, his hair was styled neatly, and he looked much more mature than usual.
“Madam!” Ling Ye’s eyes lit up when he saw Fang Lanxin.
Fang Lanxin sat down opposite him. "Have you ordered?"
"I ordered, all your favorites." Ling Ye poured tea for Fang Lanxin attentively. "Madam, you look a little tired today."
"I've been busy lately," Fang Lanxin said, picking up her teacup and taking a sip.
Ling Ye looked at her, a hint of heartache flashing in his eyes. "Madam, is there anything I can help you with?"
Fang Lanxin put down her teacup, looked directly into Ling Ye's eyes, and said, "Ah Ye, you've been hanging around on the streets for so long, you must know quite a few people, right?"
Ling Ye paused for a moment, then nodded. "I know quite a few. Madam, what do you want to investigate?"
"Fourth wife, Huo Zhenhong." Fang Lanxin didn't beat around the bush. "I need to know what he's been doing lately and who he's been in contact with."
Ling Ye narrowed his eyes, "The fourth branch is that old fox you kicked out of the Huo family."
"right."
“Leave it to me.” Ling Ye patted his chest. “Madam, give me three days, and I guarantee I’ll find out everything about him.”
Fang Lanxin looked at Ling Ye, a slight smile playing on her lips, "Don't push yourself, be careful."
"I'll be fine." Ling Ye held Fang Lanxin's hand. "Madam, I promise you, I will be careful."
Fang Lan wanted to pull her hand away, but Ling Ye held it tightly.
“Madam.” Ling Ye suddenly leaned closer, his voice low, “Do you know that every time I see you worrying about these trivial matters, I feel like beating all those people up?”
Fang Lanxin was both amused and exasperated. "Beating people up won't solve anything."
“I know.” Ling Ye released his hand. “That’s why I’m helping you find out the truth so you can take them down once and for all.”
The dishes were served one after another. Ling Ye kept putting food on Fang Lanxin's plate, acting like a big dog, as if he wanted to pile all the good stuff into Fang Lanxin's bowl.
"That's enough, that's enough," Fang Lanxin stopped him. "I can't eat that much."
“Madam, you’re too thin.” Ling Ye frowned. “You need to eat more.”
Fang Lanxin looked at the mountain of food piled up in her bowl and shook her head helplessly.
After dinner, Ling Ye drove Fang Lanxin home. In the car, Ling Ye suddenly spoke.
"Madam, I've heard about Guan Yu proposing to you."
Fang Lanxin turned to look at him.
Ling Ye gripped the steering wheel, his eyes fixed ahead. "Madam, have you agreed to his proposal?"
"No."
Ling Ye breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good."
"Ah Ye," Fang Lanxin sighed, "Why are you always dwelling on this?"
“Because I like you.” Ling Ye turned to look at her, his eyes frighteningly serious. “Madam, I know I am younger than Guan Yu, not as rich as him, and not as resourceful as him.”
"But my feelings for you are no less than his."
Fang Lanxin looked at Ling Ye, and an indescribable feeling welled up in her heart.
The boy's feelings were so direct that she didn't know how to respond.
"Ah Ye, you're still young. You'll meet someone more suitable in the future."
"I don't want anyone else, I only want you." Ling Ye's voice was stubborn. "Madam, I know you don't accept me now, it's okay, I can wait."
"But remember, I will always be here, whenever you need me."
The car stopped in front of the villa. Fang Lanxin got out of the car, took a few steps, and then turned back.
"A-Ye, thank you."
Ling Ye watched Fang Lanxin's retreating figure, a smile playing on his lips.
The lady said thank you. This is a good omen.
The next day, Lingye began to take action.
He first went to a car modification shop in Yau Ma Tei. The owner, Ah Kun, was an old friend of his, who had been in the underworld for over twenty years and was very well-informed.
"Ah Ye, what brings you here?" Ah Kun was repairing a car when he saw Ling Ye and looked up to greet him.
"Brother Kun, I've come to ask you about something." Ling Ye handed over a pack of cigarettes.
Ah Kun took the cigarette, pulled one out, and put it in his mouth. "Okay, what's up?"
Have you heard of Huo Zhenhong, the fourth son of the Huo family?
Ah Kun paused in his cigarette-lighting motion. "Why are you asking about him?"
"Something came up." Ling Ye leaned against the car. "Brother Kun, if you know anything, tell me."
Ah Kun took a deep drag of his cigarette and exhaled a smoke ring. "Huo Zhenhong is not someone to be trifled with."
“I know,” Ling Ye nodded, “that’s why I came to find you.”
Ah Kun thought for a moment, "I heard that Fok Chun-hung has been quite active in Tsim Sha Tsui lately."
Tsim Sha Tsui
“Yes.” Ah Kun lowered his voice, “I don’t know exactly where, but I have a brother who owns a bar there and he said he’s seen Huo Zhenhong several times.”
What was he doing at the bar?
“I don’t know about that.” Ah Kun flicked his cigarette ash. “But my brother said that Huo Zhenhong always goes there late at night, and he always goes in through the back door.”
Ling Ye narrowed his eyes. Late at night, through the back door—this was clearly suspicious.
"Brother Kun, what's the name of your brother's bar?"
“Nightfall.” Ah Kun looked at Ling Ye. “Ah Ye, I advise you not to get involved in this kind of thing. Huo Zhenhong is not someone to be trifled with.”
"I know what I'm doing." Ling Ye patted A-Kun on the shoulder. "Thanks, Brother Kun."
After leaving the car dealership, Ling Ye headed straight for Tsim Sha Tsui.
Nightfall Bar was located in an inconspicuous alley. The storefront wasn't large, but the decor was quite stylish. Ling Ye circled the area a few times to familiarize himself with the layout, then found a secluded spot to lie in wait.
I waited until 11 p.m. before a black sedan pulled up at the back door of the bar.
The car door opened, and Huo Zhenhong got out. He was wearing a dark suit and sunglasses, looking very low-key.
Behind him were two burly men.
Ling Ye squinted and took out his phone to take a few photos.
Huo Zhenhong went into the bar, and Ling Ye waited for a while before sneaking in through the back door.
The bar was noisy, the music was deafening. Ling Ye mingled in the crowd, quietly following Huo Zhenhong.
Huo Zhenhong didn't linger in the lobby; he went straight up to the second floor. The second floor was the VIP area, with several private rooms.
Ling Ye followed to the stairwell, where he was stopped by security guards.
"Sorry, the second floor is not open to the public," the security guard said expressionlessly.
Ling Ye pulled out a wad of banknotes and stuffed them into the security guard's hand, saying, "Brother, please make an exception for me."
The security guard looked at the banknotes, then at Ling Ye, and finally shook his head. "No, that's the rule."
Ling Ye frowned. It seemed that forcing his way in wouldn't work.
