Ding Qiunan became a little anxious after Li Chu said that; she hadn't meant to joke.
Wang Jun and Li Qiaoyun are both good-looking, and their child will definitely be beautiful when she grows up. In addition, with their illustrious family background, this newborn girl is definitely the best candidate for their daughter-in-law.
If Li Chu really brushed it off with a joke, Ding Qiunan would be so angry she'd explode on the spot.
This is not about marrying into wealth or status. As the child's mother, Ding Qiunan naturally hopes that her son will be able to marry a good wife when he grows up.
After listening to Li Chu's words, Uncle Wang waved his hand and said, "This is not some feudal dregs. We are just arranging a marriage between children, not getting them married. I agree to this on behalf of Xiao Jun."
"Old Wang, you can agree on behalf of your son, but can you also agree on behalf of Qiaoyun? Let the young people make their own decisions, don't scare them."
Aunt Wang was somewhat dissatisfied with Uncle Wang for making the decision on his own. Qiaoyun's mother was still here, and he made the decision without even asking her mother. What was she supposed to think?
Aunt Wang was more than willing to let Wang Jun and Li Chu's families become in-laws, but the children themselves had to agree first.
“Mom, I definitely agree.” A weak voice came from behind.
It was Li Qiaoyun's voice; I don't know when she woke up.
"Oh, child, why are you awake? Did we wake you up?"
Aunt Wang, Aunt Li, and Ding Qiunan all gathered around the bed.
"No, I woke up on my own."
"Uncle, let's go outside for some fresh air."
Once Li Qiaoyun woke up, it was no longer appropriate for the two of them, as grown men, to stay in the hospital room.
"Xiao Chu, I wasn't joking with you just now. I think Wenxuan would be a good fit as my granddaughter's husband."
Once outside, Uncle Wang started talking about what had just happened again.
"Uncle, fine, whatever you say. Besides, whether Wenxuan can be your grandson-in-law or not, he's still your grandson, that won't change!"
"I love what you say, you little rascal." Once outside the ward, Uncle Wang no longer needed to suppress his voice like he had inside; his voice became much louder.
"Hey, Uncle, how was the parade today? It's such a shame I missed this year's parade."
"This year's parade was only on a small scale, far less impressive than the one in 1959. However, the mass parade and celebrations that followed were quite impressive."
"That's fine, there's a parade every year." Li Chu lost interest as soon as he heard it was a mini-military parade.
"Xiao Chu, I still want to thank you. Your aunt told me about the situation when I came over just now. It's fortunate that you were here today." Uncle Wang finally said it.
"Uncle, do we need to talk about this? Xiaojun is like my younger brother, and his wife is like my sister-in-law. How could I, as the older brother, not help him?"
"Besides, I've also found a wife for my son, so I'm actually getting the better deal," Li Chu said with a grin.
Uncle Wang smiled and nodded without saying anything, then walked to the stairs and lit a cigarette.
Li Chu glanced at his watch; it was almost lunchtime. He called Zhang Meng to go with him to the cafeteria to get their food.
When I came over this morning, I had already told the cafeteria that the stewed chicken was ready.
The two of them carried a bunch of lunch boxes in a cloth bag, and Li Chu was also carrying a small pot.
It wasn't until after get off work in the afternoon that Li Qiaoyun's father came over, and Li Qin and Wang Ziwen also came over for a visit.
“Auntie, you and Aunt Li are both getting old and can’t stay up late at night. Let Qiu Nan stay here with us at the hospital for the next couple of days.”
As Aunt Wang was telling Li Ma that she would be here that evening, Li Chu interrupted.
“That won’t do. Both I, her mother-in-law, and her own mother are here. How can we let Qiu Nan stay with us?” Aunt Wang refused decisively.
"Auntie, please don't struggle anymore. This isn't something that can be done in a day or two. What if something bad happens to you two? Just come over first thing tomorrow morning."
Li Chu is right. Aunt Wang is already over fifty, and Li Ma is even worse off. Although she is only in her early forties, her health is not good. If she stays up for a few more nights, it might even kill her.
In the end, Aunt Wang stopped arguing. Li Qiaoyun would need to stay in the hospital for at least five days, so Ding Qiunan could stay here for the next few nights.
Before they left, Li Chu picked up the two children.
When the two little ones arrived at the ward, they obediently lay down beside the bed, watching the sleeping baby without making a sound.
"Dad, why doesn't the little sister get up and play with us?" After watching for a while, Xiao Wenhui couldn't stand it anymore and ran to Li Chu's side to ask in a low voice.
“The little sister is still too young and needs to sleep a lot to grow up. You and your brother were just like her when you were little, and you slept all day long.”
yawenku.
Li Chu held his daughter in his arms and patiently explained to her. Xiao Wenhui nodded as if she understood but not quite.
Xiao Wenxuan patiently lay there watching until the baby started to cry before coming over to his father.
"Daddy, Daddy, why is the little girl crying?"
"She was hungry. The little girl can't speak yet, so she can only cry."
The two little ones each sat on one of their father's legs, chattering away and asking all sorts of questions.
Li Chu showed no impatience whatsoever, patiently answering every question the children asked.
Although the two children may not understand it at all, they will remember some of it if they hear it a lot.
After they all left, Li Chu stayed in the ward until both children were sleepy before taking them home.
On their first night without their mother, the two children neither cried nor made a fuss.
It was a bit chaotic when we woke up this morning. The two little ones had a good sleep and were full of energy. While getting dressed, we played hide-and-seek on the bed. Their little legs were quite active, and we played on the bed for a while before we finally got dressed.
Xiao Hei waited for Ding Qiunan all night at the gate. When he saw Li Chu the next morning, his eyes were filled with resentment. He had waited all night for nothing.
After sending the two children to the daycare, Li Chu went to the ward. Aunt Wang and Li Ma were already there, but Ding Qiunan was not.
"Xiao Chu, Qiu Nan has already eaten. She said she went to find a place to sleep because she didn't get a good night's rest last night."
"Okay, Aunt Wang, I'll head over now. If you need anything, just have the nurse call me."
Arriving at the door of her clinic, Li Chu gently opened it.
Sure enough, his wife was sleeping soundly on the bed behind the curtain. Li Chu didn't disturb her. He tiptoed to put on his white coat and then left the house.
After locking the clinic door, Li Chu went to the traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy to ask for leave for his wife, and then went to the nephrology department to make rounds.
By the time he returned to the consultation room from the nephrology department, it was already past eleven o'clock.
Ding Qiunan was still fast asleep, it seems she didn't get any sleep at all last night.
