Chapter 208 Someone

Ding Qiunan showed no signs of waking up even during lunchtime.

Li Chu delivered the meals to the ward. Li Qiaoyun's meals were prepared and delivered by the small kitchen in their compound, arranged by Aunt Wang.

Ding Qiunan slept until almost the end of the afternoon before waking up, and was starving when she did.

It would be strange if I wasn't hungry after eating breakfast this morning.

Li Chu stayed until the end of the workday, then went to pick up the two children. The family of four ate in the cafeteria, and Ding Qiunan ate four large steamed buns by herself.

The two little ones looked at their mother strangely.

After Ding Qiunan arrived at the ward after dinner, she asked Aunt Wang and the others to leave.

Li Qiaoyun has recovered a lot compared to yesterday. Although she still doesn't have the strength to get out of bed and walk, she can move around on her own in bed.

Li Chu stayed in the ward until the two children got sleepy before going home.

It was already dark. On his way back, Li Chu didn't take the main road, but instead came through the alley to the east.

To get home from the east, he had to walk to the far west end of the alley, because his house was the second one on the west side.

There were no streetlights in the alley, and Li Chu, carrying two children, couldn't use a flashlight, so she could only walk carefully.

Although I couldn't see the road very clearly, I was familiar with the road conditions because I often walked on it, so I wasn't worried about falling even though it was dark.

Humming a nursery rhyme from their past life, the two little ones nestled quietly in their father's arms.

As Li Chu was walking, he suddenly stopped, the song he was humming also stopped, and he turned around sharply to look behind him.

It was almost pitch black behind me, with only occasional glimpses of light coming through the windows.

Li Chu felt something was strange; as he walked back today, he kept feeling like someone was following him.

I had a vague feeling when I was on the main road, but I didn't see anything when I looked back. Now that I've turned into the alley, the feeling of being followed is more obvious.

Looking down at the child in her arms, Li Chu hesitated for a moment before turning back to check on the baby. Instead, she turned and continued walking home, humming a song softly to the child.

He didn't care whether there was anyone behind him; he was holding the child, and the child's safety was the top priority.

Li Chu's pace quickened noticeably.

When he got to his door, he put the child down on the ground in front of him, took out his key from his pocket, and opened the door.

No one went in after the door opened; the dog inside had already squeezed out through the crack in the door.

As soon as Xiao Hei came out, it started barking in the direction Li Chu had just returned from.

This made Li Chu even more certain that someone had been following him.

Moreover, they were strangers, at least to Xiao Hei.

Li Chu did not turn on the light at the entrance. He put the two children inside the gate and had Xiaobai and Xiaohua stand next to them.

He squatted down and patted Xiao Hei's head: "Xiao Hei, go, bite."

Li Chu gave Xiao Hei the simplest command, and Xiao Hei could understand the simple words perfectly now.

Upon receiving the order, Little Black darted eastward, its all-black fur making it completely invisible in the darkness.

Based on its speed, Li Chu estimated that it had only run about fifty or sixty meters when he heard Xiao Hei start barking again, and its running speed had increased.

Sure enough, that person hadn't left; he was hiding in the darkness. He probably didn't expect Li Chu to let the dog out.

"Daddy, Daddy, I'm scared," came Xiao Wenhui's voice.

The gun that Li Chu had just taken from the warehouse vanished in an instant.

He stepped through the gate, turned on the light at the entrance, and then picked up the two children.

As soon as Xiao Wenhui was hugged, she tightly hugged her father's neck.

Li Chu didn't expect that the one who cried out in fear was the naughtiest little Wen Hui. After all, she was a girl. Although little Wen Xuan was shy, she was quite calm at this moment. She was held in her father's arms and even reached out a hand to hold her sister.

About five or six minutes later, Xiao Hei ran back.

After Xiao Hei entered the gate, Li Chu locked the door, then carried the child into the living room.

Unexpectedly, Xiao Hei, who followed him in, spat out a strip of cloth from his mouth, then sat on the ground, panting heavily with his tongue lolling out.

The Fairy Tree Romance

Li Chu didn't rush to look at the thing. Instead, he first cleaned the two children, carried them into the bedroom, and left Xiaobai and Xiaohua inside before returning to the living room.

He took out a pair of gloves from his bag and put them on before squatting down in front of Xiao Hei and picking up the strip of cloth that Xiao Hei had just spat out.

It was just an ordinary navy blue work shirt, the kind you see everywhere on the streets. Li Chu couldn't deduce anything from the strip of cloth.

He reached out to touch Xiao Hei's head, only to discover that there was still blood on Xiao Hei's teeth.

Li Chu held Xiao Hei's head with one hand and wiped the blood off its teeth with the other. He then pried open Xiao Hei's mouth to take a look. It didn't seem to be Xiao Hei's blood, which meant that Xiao Hei had bitten that person earlier.

Who is following me? Why are they following me? Is it premeditated stalking, or random stalking with the intention of robbing me?

A whole bunch of question marks popped into Li Chu's head.

After thinking for a moment, Li Chu sat down next to the telephone, picked it up, and was about to dial when he put it down again. He got up, took out a hardcover notebook from his bag, looked at a phone number written on it, and then put the notebook back in his bag.

He walked over to the phone, picked it up, and dialed the number he had just used.

The phone was answered after only two rings, and a male voice came from the other end.

"Sixth Brother, it's me, Li Chu. Could you come to my house right now? I have something to take care of."

Soon Li Chu hung up the phone and sat on the sofa. In a flash, the Type 54 pistol from the warehouse reappeared in his hand.

Li Chu released the safety, chambered a bullet, and sat on the sofa with the gun in his hand, waiting quietly.

The phone call he just made was to his brother-in-law's cousin, Wu Xiaoliu, the person he saved.

He didn't call Uncle Wang or his brother-in-law because he didn't want to bother them at night.

He called Wu Xiaoliu over just in case, since there were still two children at home.

Less than half an hour later, Li Chu saw Xiao Hei suddenly dart from the living room into the yard, but it didn't bark, so it seemed that an acquaintance had come over.

Li Chu stood up with his gun in his hand and walked into the courtyard. This time he could hear footsteps outside, but there was only one person.

The person outside didn't knock, but called out directly, "Xiao Chu, it's me, Wu Xiaoliu, open the door."

Hearing his voice, Li Chu breathed a sigh of relief and quickly walked over to open the door.

Wu Xiaoliu was holding a flashlight outside the door. When he saw Li Chu open the door, he first shone the flashlight on both sides of the alley before walking into the gate.

Turning around and locking the door, Wu Xiaoliu looked back and, using the light from the living room, saw the pistol in Li Chu's hand. A look of surprise flashed across his face.

"Xiao Chu, what happened? Why do you have a gun in your hand?"

"Sixth Brother, come inside and sit down. I'll tell you slowly."
