Hearing the noise, the older women looked up and saw Li Chu and her brother approaching with a stranger.
The older woman asked, "Oh, Director Li, what brings you here?"
The three of them didn't stop. Li Qin said as they walked, "Xiao Chu's house is in a bit of a state. We're going to clean it up for him. I've found a craftsman to come and take a look. You guys chat first, we'll go inside."
The people sitting outside the courtyard gate weren't surprised to hear that the house needed cleaning; the houses here were all quite old and people often cleaned them.
After entering the house, Boss Fu put down his satchel and said, "Comrade Li, let me measure the house first."
After saying that, he took out a tape measure and a folding ruler he had made himself from wooden strips from his bag, and then walked around the house, measuring dimensions and writing down the data in a notebook. He looked very professional.
They obtained the basic data about the house in about ten minutes. They walked up to Li Chu and asked, "Comrade Li, do you have any ideas on how to decorate this house?"
"Oh, it's like this. I want to partition off a section on the right side of this main room to build a toilet. Just a squat toilet like in an apartment building, with a flush toilet, and a water pipe running in from outside. The rest won't be changed much; I'll just finish the floor and walls later. The inner room..."
"Wait a moment," the eldest son interrupted Li Chu. He lifted the curtain to look at the sink in the yard and said, "The water pipes are easy to install, and the drainage can be done, but this toilet will only be suitable for urinating."
Li Chu asked in astonishment, "Why is that?"
"Oh, it's like this. We live in single-story houses. If the sewer system you install here doesn't have a drop in elevation to the main sewer pipes on the street, the sewers won't flush properly! What if they get clogged again..."
Li Chu was stunned when he heard this; this was the difference between professionals and non-professionals.
Li Qin chimed in, "Yes, there's a house in that alley that did the same thing. They didn't consider this when they were repairing it, and only after it was finished did they realize that it couldn't be flushed down at all. There was nothing they could do, so they had to tear it down and rebuild it."
Li Chu replied helplessly, "Then let's do it your way. By the way, I'm also planning to take a shower in the bathroom. I'll build a frame behind the house, make it high, put a metal bucket on top, and run the water pipe into the bathroom so I can take a shower when the weather is warm."
"Hey, this is a great idea!" the rich boss exclaimed.
“I plan to turn the inner room into a kitchen and storage room, and the plumbing also needs to be installed in the kitchen. Then, I would like you to partition off a second floor above the inner room to make a bedroom, and if possible, divide the second floor into two bedrooms.”
"That's acceptable," said the eldest son after thinking for a moment.
Li Qin asked from the side, "This second floor that's partitioned off must be sturdy."
"Director Li, don't worry, that's absolutely no problem. We can even build a heated kang bed for you up there."
Li Chu was still wondering what to do in the cold winter, but when he heard that he could build a heated kang (a traditional Chinese bed-stove), he immediately agreed. However, he also had his own questions: "How will we heat it? We can't exactly put a stove on the second floor, can we?"
"No, it's on the first floor. We can extend the stove's chimney up there so it can heat the kang (heated brick bed) and also vent the smoke."
"Alright, let's do it your way."
The eldest son of the Fu family scribbled in his notebook and then said, "Well then, Comrade Li, I'll go back and organize these things, and I'll make a formal drawing for you. I'll bring it over tonight so you can see if there's anything that needs to be changed."
"Okay, then I'll wait for you at home tonight."
"Well, you two go ahead with your work, I'll head back now." After saying that, she packed her things, slung her bag over her shoulder, and left.
Li Chu dropped him off at the door and then returned.
Li Qin asked him, "What do you want the cement for? To smear the whole floor?"
"Yes, I want to treat the ground with cement."
"Okay, come over and tell me the price later. By the way, where are you staying? If you can't stay here, you can stay at my place for now."
"It's okay, sis. I remember there are still empty dorm rooms in our hospital. I'll stay in the dorm first."
"Okay, you see, if it doesn't work out, I'll just stay at home. If there's nothing else, I'll go to work; I have a ton of things to do."
"Okay, sis, I'll come over and tell you tonight once we've discussed it. Please drive carefully."
Li Qin waved her hand and left.
Li Chu looked around the house again, then turned and closed the door before going to work. These days, there's no need to lock the door; strangers can't get into the yard anyway. In the alley, a stranger passing by gets stared at by a crowd.
When I arrived at the hospital, I went to the head doctor's office first, returned the bicycle, and then asked, "Doctor, does your hospital still have any dormitories available?"
Why are you asking this, kid?
"I just wanted to tidy up the room. I went back to have someone check it out, and I'm worried I won't have anywhere to stay. I wanted to see if our hospital has any dormitories. I guess I'll only be staying for about a month." As he spoke, he took out a cigarette and offered one to Director Liang.
After lighting a cigarette and taking a puff, Director Liang thought for a moment and said, "I think so. I'll go over and ask for you later. If you have it, I'll bring you the key directly."
"Thank you, Director. I'll head over now."
"Wait a minute, is that acupuncture hemostasis method you used a secret passed down from your master?"
"No, this is something I figured out myself. What's wrong?" This is a memory implanted in him by the system, along with many acupuncture first aid methods, all of which are in his memory, and many of them haven't been organized yet.
"Is this method difficult? Is it possible for it to be widely adopted?"
"It's not difficult. As long as you can find the acupoints accurately and control the depth of needle insertion, it's fine. Here's what I'll do: I'll go back and organize this, then I'll show it to you." Li Chu didn't have the intention of hoarding his knowledge. How many people could he save by himself? He alone couldn't possibly make traditional Chinese medicine flourish. Traditional Chinese medicine has been passed down for thousands of years. As a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, Li Chu hoped to see it improve in the future, rather than gradually decline to become just an auxiliary treatment.
"Good! Good!" Director Liang was very happy to hear that Li Chu agreed to write down this hemostasis method. He then asked, "You also graduated from our medical school. How about it? Are you interested in teaching at the medical school? If you want to come, I can recommend you to the school."
