Chapter Thirty-Three: The Fan

During the meal, Ding's mother kept asking questions. When she learned that Li Chu would be coming next week, she kept thinking about what to cook.

Ding Jianguo ignored what the adults were saying and just kept his head down, devouring the meat on the plate. His mouth was greasy from eating so much meat; he hadn't eaten meat like this in a long time.

After finishing the meal and cleaning up, Ding's mother took out the piece of fabric. It was twill cotton. She hadn't paid much attention to it when she rolled it up, but when she unfolded it and measured it with her hand, wow, it would be too loose to make three sets of clothes.

"Qiu Nan, there's way too much fabric."

"Mom, I brought it back for you, so keep it. You can make one for each of the three of you later."

Ding's mother was still a little worried. She put down the cloth in her hand, took Ding Qiunan's hand, and said, "Nannan, tell me properly. He's just a doctor. Not to mention how much this cloth costs, the cloth coupons alone are a lot, and there's so much meat too. I'm hoping you'll find a good husband, but... I'm not at ease!"

"Mom, don't worry." Ding Qiunan looked around and saw that only she and her mother were in the room. She leaned close to her mother's ear and whispered with a blush, "His medical skills are good, especially in treating men's diseases. Many people come to him specifically because of referrals from acquaintances. After they are treated, they give him money or something."

She was still an unmarried girl, and she was a little shy when she said these things.

Ding's mother's voice softened as she asked, "Won't something bad happen?"

"No, Mom, their director refers patients to him."

"Oh, that's good. We don't care how rich others are, we just want to live a peaceful and stable life."

"I know, Mom. He's quite steady."

The mother and daughter chatted for a while longer. Then, Ding's mother looked up at the time and said, "It's almost time. You should go now, or you'll miss the bus." She stood up, opened the cabinet, took out a tin box, and took out a stack of money. "Put this money in for you."

Ding Qiunan went to further her studies, and her father collected her salary for the past three months.

Ding's mother took out the grain ration book, which contained the exchanged grain coupons. She handed a stack of them to Ding Qiunan, saying, "Take these grain coupons with you. Don't go hungry while you're out there."

"No, Mom, the food in the hospital cafeteria is pretty good."

Ding Qiunan stuffed the money and food coupons into a small pouch inside her pants.

Ding Qiunan took a lunchbox out of her bag: "Mom, pack some of the pickled vegetables you made for me."

Ding's mother took the lunchbox and packed it for her.

Just then, Ding Jianguo ran in and shouted, "Sister, Dad wants you to hurry up, or you'll miss the bus!"

"I know about Jian Guo, and I'm packing up now."

After packing her lunchbox and slinging her bag over her shoulder, Ding Qiunan headed out, reminding her younger brother as she went, "Jianguo, your sister is leaving. You must listen to Mom and Dad at home and study hard, understand?"

"I heard you, sister. Goodbye."

After greeting the people in the courtyard, Ding Qiunan went out.

Ding's father was squatting under the shade of a tree outside the yard, smoking. When he saw Ding Qiunan come out, he stood up. He was going to take his daughter to the station.

As Ding Qiunan walked out of the courtyard gate, she said goodbye to her mother: "Mom, you should go back. It's too hot outside, so don't go."

"Okay, I won't go. Be careful on the road!" Ding's mother instructed.

Ding Qiunan walked up to her father, waved to her mother, and then followed her father.

"Dad, I forgot to mention this at dinner. When you go to work tomorrow, please tell Da Gang that my wife's illness should be curable, and ask him to bring her to the hospital to see me when he has time."

"You said Da Gang's wife's illness can be cured, do you mean she can get pregnant again?"

“It should be possible. There’s an older woman in Li Chu’s courtyard who had some health problems when she was young and couldn’t get pregnant. Li Chu cured her. I told him about Da Gang’s wife, and he asked me to bring her over for him to take a look. He said it should be about right.”

"Nannan, you're good at dating this guy."

Ding Qiunan spoke with great pride about her boyfriend's medical skills, saying, "His master is a genuine master of traditional Chinese medicine. Li Chu has learned all of his master's skills. I've also learned a lot from him in the past three months."

As Ding's father watched his daughter excitedly talking about other men, he sighed sadly. "Alas, my beautiful little cabbage is finally going to be eaten by someone else's pig."

After watching Ding Qiunan board the bus to the city, Ding's father left with a slightly dejected look.

After having lunch at his older sister's house, Li Chu went home without going upstairs. He lay down on the sofa and took a nap.

After getting up, he prepared to go to the station to pick up Ding Qiunan. He had specifically inquired about the afternoon bus schedule that morning.

I checked my watch; there was still some time, so I wasn't in a hurry.

I was lying on the sofa, lost in thought. Then I remembered I hadn't checked in today. *Ding!* Check-in successful! Rewards: a used Huasheng brand electric fan, 100 yuan in cash, and a large yellow croaker.

Hey, this fan is a great item! You can't buy it even if you have money and a ticket, it's out of stock.

The system even thoughtfully provided a second-hand one. That way, if someone comes to your home and sees it, you won't be unable to explain its origin.

I took it out of my spatial storage and held it in my hand. It's so heavy, all metal. Even though it's supposed to be secondhand, it's at least 80-90% new.

Li Chu plugged in the fan, turned it on, and it started running. Although he wasn't bothered by the heat, wasn't it more comfortable to have a breeze? So he placed it in the living room.

I checked the time; it was time to head out. After waiting a few minutes at the station, I saw a bus coming from the other side pull into the station.

As Ding Qiunan stepped out of the station, she saw Li Chu waving at her. She was pleasantly surprised and quickly walked over: "Why are you here?"

"I asked the station when I left this morning. There are only two buses a day. I asked about the time and came right on time." He took the bag from Ding Qiunan. "Let's go, I'll take you back to your dorm."

Ding Qiunan followed Li Chu with a smile.

Li Chu took out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her: "Quickly wipe your sweat, you look so hot."

After watching Ding Qiunan take it, he asked, "Well, have you told your parents?"

Ding Qiunan wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief. Hmm, the handkerchief smelled just like him, a light, pleasant fragrance.

After wiping, she folded the handkerchief, put it in her pocket, and said, "I told my parents we'll go back together next week."

“Okay, let’s go back together to meet your parents.” Li Chu was a little excited and a little nervous. Having lived two lives, this was the first time he was going to meet his girlfriend’s parents.
