The witch grabbed her hand tightly and said, "Don't bother, it's useless. I used my heart blood when I saved this little white dragon. Heart blood is the most important thing for a person. If you lose your heart blood, you will die."
Zhang Meng looked at the bowl of black and red liquid on the ground in shock. It turned out that the witch's heart blood was mixed in it.
"Mother-in-law, I'm sorry. I didn't know things would turn out like this. If, if I had known that saving Xiaobai would cost your life, I would never have done it this way." Zhang Meng's eyes turned red with self-blame.
I felt like I was killing this innocent old man.
Granny Wu smiled reassuringly, patted the back of her hand, and consoled her, "How is this any of your business? I did this of my own accord. It has nothing to do with you. Besides, I don't have more than two years left to live. Instead of wasting it like this, I might as well do something for my poor grandson. It's quite worth it."
Zhang Meng cried out sadly, "Grandma Witch."
The witch smiled, looked at the young couple, and pleaded, "When we get back to the hospital later, can you help me keep this secret? I don't want my poor grandson to know that I'm going to die."
Zhang Meng looked at Gu Mingtai and saw him nod at her. Zhang Meng finally agreed, "Okay, we won't tell."
The three of them returned to the hospital. Xiaohu, who had been waiting for Grandma Wu to return, waved happily when he saw them. "Grandma, sister, brother, you're back."
"Wow, is this an apple? It looks delicious, but unfortunately I have never eaten it." Xiaohu's eyes lit up when he saw the fruit in Gu Mingtai's hand, and he secretly swallowed his saliva.
Zhang Meng helped the witch to sit down, and immediately took an apple from Gu Mingtai, peeled it, cut it into pieces and gave them to the grandparents and grandchildren.
"Grandma, you eat it." Xiaohu took a piece and handed it to Grandma Witch first.
"Okay, grandma, eat it, Xiaohu, eat it too." Grandma Wu happily took it and gave a piece to her grandson. The two of them ate it happily, taking a piece from each other.
While the two ancestors were eating apples, Zhang Meng and Gu Mingtai gave up their place.
The two of them came outside and listened to the laughter inside gradually dying away, and a layer of sadness filled their hearts.
"Gu Mingtai, I always feel that it was my fault that Grandma Witch died." Zhang Meng pursed her lips and suddenly threw herself into his arms, blaming herself.
Gu Mingtai hugged her back distressedly and comforted her softly, "Don't be sad. Grandma Wu must have prepared for this a long time ago, that's why she wants us to take care of her grandson."
"I know, I just feel a little uncomfortable." Zhang Meng buried her head in his arms and said in a muffled voice.
The young couple hugged each other like this. Occasionally, people passing by saw them and looked at them curiously for a few more seconds. As a result, they received a fierce warning look, which scared the passers-by who looked at them for a few more seconds and they ran away in panic.
Grandma Wu passed away the day after Xiaohu had the operation.
Originally, Zhang Meng was worried that Xiaohu would be sad because of the death of Grandma Wu, but she found that her worries seemed unnecessary.
After waking up, the little guy learned that his grandmother had passed away. Instead of crying, he was very well behaved and ate and slept by himself. Zhang Meng didn't need to coax him at all.
After observing him for the entire day, in the evening, Zhang Meng couldn't help herself. When Gu Mingtai went to the hospital cafeteria to get food, she pulled the little guy aside and asked, "Xiao Hu, what do you think about your grandma..."
Before she could finish, Xiaohu interrupted her, "Sister Zhang Meng, I know my grandma is gone, and I won't be able to see her anymore."
As the little guy was speaking, his eyes suddenly turned red, but he kept smiling on his little face, which made people feel distressed no matter how they looked at him.
"If you want to cry, just cry. Sister will accompany you. When you recover, sister will take you back to my house. There is a younger brother in my house. You should get along well with him. From now on, my house is your home, okay?"
Xiaohu nodded vigorously and wiped his eyes with his short hands. "I won't cry. I promised grandma that I wouldn't cry. Besides, grandma said that she is going to find my parents. I should be happy for her. Don't cry, otherwise she will not come to my dreams anymore."
Zhang Meng didn't expect that the reason the little guy didn't cry was because the witch told him these words.
Looking at the little guy's face, which was obviously very sad but trying hard to hold it back, I touched his face distressedly and said, "Okay, we won't cry."
After Xiaohu rested in the hospital for ten days after the operation, Zhang Meng and others finally set off to go home.
This time, Fatty Zheng came to see him off again. "Captain Gu, after this separation, I don't know how long it will take for us to meet again."
A grown man stood in the busy train station, his eyes red, holding Gu Mingtai's hand with reluctance.
Gu Mingtai's face was blushing at this time. Feeling the curious gazes of others looking at them, he wanted to dig a hole here and crawl into it.
"That's enough. It's shameful for a grown man to cry here." Gu Mingtai said with a fierce face, unable to bear it any longer.
Zheng Dapang said with a look of grievance, "Captain Gu, I just can't bear to leave you. How can you be so heartless? We're separated again, don't you feel reluctant to leave me?"
Zhang Meng, who was standing aside holding Xiaohu's hand, hissed and rubbed her arm with one hand. She felt as if she and Xiaohu were redundant standing here.
Fatty Zheng immediately looked at her, his eyes rolled, as if he had thought of something, and he explained embarrassedly, "Sister-in-law, don't get me wrong, there's nothing between Captain Gu and me. I, I just can't bear to part with my brotherly relationship with him."
