The two PLA comrades immediately let go of the little one who was holding their hands and quickly gave Zhang Meng a military salute.
"Hello, Comrade Zhang Meng. I'm sent by the commander of District X. Our commander wants to see you and your husband about something. Could you and your husband please come with us?"
When Zhang Meng heard that it was the commander of the x district, her mind immediately recalled the middle-aged man in military uniform whom she had met when she was opening the stone box. Later, after listening to Gu Mingtai, she realized that the man was actually the commander of the x military district.
"Then you may have to wait a while. My husband is not home right now. He went out for something and may not be back until noon."
When the two PLA comrades heard this, although an anxious expression flashed across their faces, they quickly suppressed it because of their good character. After nodding, the two stood in the yard like pine trees.
After half an hour, Zhang Meng saw that the two of them were standing there motionless, and the sun was a little strong above their heads. She was a little worried that they would get heatstroke, so she invited them in to drink some water. However, the two of them refused to go in and insisted on standing in the yard waiting, saying that they were the people's soldiers and could not take a single needle or thread from the people.
Seeing that she couldn't win the argument with them, Zhang Meng had no choice but to let them do as they pleased, and only hoped that Gu Mingtai, who was out on business, would come back soon.
She didn't want the two poplar trees in the yard to fall down. Perhaps God heard her prayers, but after standing by the two poplar trees for another hour, Gu Mingtai finally returned home.
When Gu Mingtai came back and saw the two trees standing in front of his house, he was stunned for a moment, but after seeing the military uniforms they were wearing, he quickly understood.
After nodding at them, he continued walking inside.
Zhang Meng, who had been waiting in the hall, saw him come back and immediately poured him a cup of tea. After he drank it, she told him the whole story.
"What do you think these two people want us to do over there?" Zhang Meng quickly asked the question that was bothering her.
Gu Mingtai finished his tea, pondered for a moment, and suddenly smiled and said, "Who cares what he does? We'll just go there. Establishing a relationship with the commander of District X will be beneficial to us in the future."
Zhang Meng looked at the smile on his face, reached out and touched his face, and said with a bit of distress, "Gu Mingtai, I find that you seem to have become bad. You used to not be calculating, but now, you have learned."
Gu Mingtai grabbed her hand and held it tightly in his palm. "Do you like me as I was before, or as I am now?"
Zhang Meng touched his chin, chuckled, and lifted his chin with one hand, saying with a smile, "No matter what you become, I like it."
Her delicate pink lips opened and closed, making Gu Mingtai feel hot all over and his mind went blank. He immediately put his hands behind her head, held her head up and kissed her hard on the lips.
Zhang Meng was stunned, and before she could react, he had already held her in his arms.
"Don't worry, I will be calculating against anyone, but for you, I will be sincere."
Zhang Meng raised the corner of her mouth and hugged him back, "Yeah, I know."
The young couple hugged each other affectionately. They didn't know how long they hugged each other, but suddenly an annoying sound interrupted them.
"Excuse me, both of you. I'd like to ask, when can we set off?" The blush on the face of the PLA comrade standing at the door had already spread to the back of his ears.
The sight of these two people hugging each other made this old boy, who hadn't had a partner for twenty years, feel very envious.
The young couple relaxed, one nervous and the other calm.
Gu Mingtai, who remained calm as usual, asked the PLA comrade a few questions and then immediately answered his question, "Go wait outside for a while, we'll follow you soon."
The PLA comrade nodded, turned straight and left.
