Chapter 247 Black Bear Warehouse
Sheng Xiping stayed with Zhou Qinglan at her parents' home for two days. On Saturday the 13th, the two got up early and took a car back to the forest farm.
After getting off the train, Zhou Qinglan told Sheng Xiping to go home first, while she went straight to school.
Zhou Qinglan has not been in charge of the class for long, but she gets along well with the children.
She had been away from school for four or five days, including her wedding and homecoming, and she was really worried about the children.
Sheng Xiping watched his wife hurry towards the school at the west end of the forest farm, and couldn't help but shake his head. He picked up the things in his hands and walked back home.
"Xiping, you're back? Where's your wife?"
As soon as he arrived at his own door, he saw Wang Jianshe, Chen Weiguo and several others walking towards him.
It was obvious at a glance that these people had come to the Sheng family to find Sheng Xiping after hearing that the little train had arrived at the station.
"She was worried about the children in her class, so she went to the school to check on them. What's wrong? What's going on with you guys? Come on, let's go inside and talk."
No matter what the matter is, you can't just stand at the front door and talk; you have to let people in.
Wang Jianshe and the others followed Sheng Xiping into the house.
On Saturday, when school is still in session, Sheng Liancheng probably went to the repair shop, so Zhang Shuzhen was home alone.
Zhang Shuzhen didn't like visiting other people's homes, nor did she like chatting idly with those old women about this and that.
When I have free time, I do some needlework at home.
Isn't this the new sweater that Zhang Shuzhen knitted for Sheng Xiping when he got married?
Zhang Shuzhen then thought of taking apart the old sweater, washing the yarn, mixing in a few ounces of new yarn, and knitting a sweater for Sheng Xi'an.
Alternatively, you could mix in some nylon thread and knit a pair of woolen trousers.
This is how it is these days; people wear a sweater for two years, and the stitching on the hem, cuffs, collar, and elbows becomes severely worn.
Usually, the sweater is unraveled, the yarn is scalded and washed with boiling water, then some new yarn is added and it is knitted again.
New clothes for three years, old clothes for three years, and then sewn together for another three years – this describes clothing.
Sweaters are similar; with a little experimentation and some extra yarn, you can knit them and wear them for several more years.
When Sheng Xiping entered, Zhang Shuzhen was winding yarn.
Since she was all alone and there was no one to support the yarn spool, she sat cross-legged, put the spool on her lap, and slowly wound the yarn into a ball from one end of the thread.
The dogs at home are still at the Liu family's house.
It's not time to farm yet, and the Liu brothers had nothing to do, so every other day they would take their dogs into the mountains to hunt, trying to bring back as much as possible while they had the time.
After a while, when the fields are busy, who will have time to go hunting in the mountains?
The dog wasn't home, so Sheng Xiping and the others didn't make a sound when they entered.
However, Sheng Xiping still called out into the house, "Mom, I'm back."
Zhang Shuzhen was sitting on the edge of the kang (heated brick bed) in the east room. She hadn't finished winding the yarn on her legs, so she didn't get up. She just peeked out into the outer room.
"I bet you guys are back today. How have you been these past few days? Are your in-laws doing well? Nothing's wrong, right?"
While asking questions, Zhang Shuzhen didn't stop working, continuing to wind the thread.
Sheng Xiping led Wang Jianshe and the others into the house, where they saw Zhang Shuzhen working.
Wang Jianshe was very perceptive; he immediately went over, asked Zhang Shuzhen for a thread, and used both hands to support it.
While Zhang Shuzhen was winding the thread, Wang Jianshe could also shake his hands to help, which made the winding faster.
Sheng Xiping put down his things and backpack, then poured himself a glass of water and drank it.
"Yes, everything is fine over there. We had two tables set up at home for the wedding reception, and several leaders from the bureau attended."
Sheng Xiping briefly told his mother about the homecoming visit.
"Qinglan went back to school. She's worried about the kids, so she probably won't be able to go home until noon."
Zhang Shuzhen didn't say anything about this. It's normal for her daughter-in-law to prioritize her students since she's a teacher.
"It's good that everything's alright. I'll cook dinner later. Jianshe, you guys eat here too. I'll make a lot for lunch."
“Auntie, no need, we won’t eat here. We came to find Xiping to ask him if he’s going hunting.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Jianshe quickly shook his head, indicating that they would not eat there.
“Yesterday, a few of us went up the mountain and found a Black Bear Warehouse. We were thinking of finding Xiping and going together to kill the Black Bear Warehouse.”
In winter, heavy snow covers the land, food is scarce, and eating is difficult.
To survive the harsh winter, many animals choose to hibernate.
For example, black bears usually seek shelter in tree hollows or stone caves at the end of October or the beginning of November each year.
It slept until the end of March or the beginning of April of the following year, when the snow outside melted before it crawled out of the cave.
The hibernation behavior of black bears is called "squatting in the warehouse" by the locals. Tree holes are generally called "sky warehouses" and stone caves are called "earth warehouses".
"What did you go into the mountains for?" Sheng Xiping wasn't concerned about Heixiazi Warehouse; he was more interested in why Wang Jianshe and his group had gone into the mountains.
He was worried that these few rascals would take advantage of his absence to go into the mountains and cause trouble again.
Last time, they attracted those jackals, which harmed many livestock in the forest. It took them a lot of effort to wipe them out. They mustn't cause trouble again this time.
"Gathering firewood, what else can we do? The branches and firewood the work team gave us are all wet, we'll go into the mountains to find some to dry." Wang Jianshe and the others chuckled.
"Just southwest of our forest farm, before we reached Zhang Lianxiang Hill, we came across a huge poplar tree. The three of us couldn't even lift it up."
It was about three or four meters off the ground. There was a hollow tree; I shone my flashlight inside, and a bear lived there.
