Chapter 382 Commendations and Awards

While the women were busy with these tasks, Sheng Xiping and Sheng Xi'an were making arrangements to go hunting in the mountains.

There was no shortage of meat at home; Sheng Xiping had been scavenging quite a bit all winter, and Tiger Flower would occasionally send some back as well, so the storeroom had a variety of meats.

However, since we expect a lot of people to attend this banquet, it would be better to prepare more meat just to be on the safe side.

Sheng Xikang is busy with his studies now, and Sheng Xiping doesn't want to let him fall behind, so they plan to go into the mountains together.

Before the two brothers could even take their dog out, Liu Yujiang and Liu Yuhe arrived with their dog.

"I guessed you'd be going hunting in the mountains these next couple of days. Let's go, let's go together."

"Kill whatever you see, preferably a couple of sows, and make sure the banquet is properly arranged."

When Liu Yujiang entered, he saw Sheng Xiping about to walk the dog and immediately smiled.

Sheng Xiping was also worried, because it wasn't enough manpower for just him and Sheng Xi'an to go into the mountains.

But there was nothing we could do; Wang Jianshe and the others were all working on the mountain.

Sheng Xiping really didn't trust the security personnel; they were just so-so when they went to work together, but when they went hunting together, they were just ordinary people.

"Big brother, second brother, isn't the team busy lately? Isn't it almost time to start working on the ginseng fields?"

The area around Dajianchang is where ginseng is grown. This plant prefers shade, so ginseng sheds need to be built on top of it.

Right now, the ginseng sheds are all made of wooden frames, covered with a layer of wooden boards and oil-paper. It will be several years before they are covered with plastic sheeting.

The mulberry trees planted in the winter of the first year must have their sheds prepared before the spring of the second year. Before the mulberry seedlings even sprout, they must be covered with something to provide shade.

At this time of year, it's time to go up the mountain to collect various kinds of wood to build sheds.

Liu Yujiang was the brigade secretary, and Liu Yuhe was the militia company commander; they were both quite busy at this time.

"It's alright, someone's leading the work, it won't make a difference if it's just a day or two. Your side is more important, so take care of yours first."

Liu Yujiang chuckled upon hearing this, waving his hand and saying with a smile, "Given the relationship between the Liu and Sheng families, this is no big deal."

After Liu Yujiang said that, Sheng Xiping didn't argue anymore. He and his brother tied up the dog and led it out of the house.

Four people, leading thirteen dogs, left the village and headed straight into the mountains.

"A couple of days ago, I heard from the people in our team who went up the mountain to work that they found wild boar footprints on the mountain behind the old ginseng field in our team. They were quite fresh."

"Otherwise, let's head over there," Liu Yujiang suggested.

"Sure, wherever you say, we'll go."

Going up the mountain to hunt is actually a matter of luck.

If you know where the wild animals are, that's fine. Otherwise, if you venture into the mountains without knowing anything, it's purely a matter of luck and the sensitivity of the lead dog.

The head dog of the Sheng family naturally had nothing to say, but Sheng Xiping had been busy with various things lately and hadn't been into the mountains for some time, so he wasn't sure where the wild boars were.

Searching all over the mountains and fields would be time-consuming, laborious, and thankless. Since Liu Yujiang knows where the wild boars can be found, it's naturally the best thing that could happen.

Sheng Xiping nodded, and the group headed towards the back mountain of the old ginseng field that Liu Yujiang had mentioned.

The old ginseng field isn't too far from the village. Just cross the small hill over the Second Artillery Corps and walk about five or six miles northwest.

They were all people who frequently went into the mountains, so walking ten miles or so was no problem for them.

The group, carrying guns and leading dogs, walked into the mountains. The dogs made no noise along the way.

Only after everyone had circled around the back of the old ginseng field and arrived at the forest that Liu Yujiang had mentioned did Erlang Shen sniffle and bark.

When Erlang Shen called out, the other dogs barked too. Sheng Xiping and the others saw this and quickly released the dogs.

Erlang Shen and the leopard rode side by side, running forward, with a large swarm of other dogs following suit.

Upon seeing this, Sheng Xiping and the others quickly followed behind and ran forward.

After running for about three or four miles, suddenly the barking of dogs became chaotic, and there seemed to be other noises as well.

Sheng Xiping and the others felt a chill run down their spines, fearing that something might happen to the dog, and hurriedly chased after it.

After they crossed a small hill, they saw the dogs, including the former Erlang Shen and the Black General, forming a line and barking incessantly down the hillside.

Down on the hillside, four dogs were surrounding a heavy running basket weighing about 300 pounds.

That runner was fierce; with a flick of its chin, it sent one of the dogs flying. The runner turned and ran, with the remaining three dogs chasing after it.

Erlang Shen's dog was very clever and experienced. The others didn't recognize the dog below, so they naturally wouldn't help. Since the lead dog didn't move, the others didn't move either, and so the group of dogs barked and watched from the hillside.

"Whose dog is this?" Sheng Xiping asked Liu Yujiang when he saw it, not recognizing it.

"It looks like Zhao Big Eyes' dog from our village. Hey? Where did Zhao Big Eyes go? Why is only his dog left?"

These four dogs aren't tough enough; I doubt they can keep the pigs locked in their kennels.

Liu Yujiang and Liu Yuhe looked down the hillside and could roughly tell whose dog it was.

Zhao Big Eyes is a nickname. This person has big eyes, but for some reason, they bulge out a bit, so the villagers gave him this nickname.

Over time, people forgot his real name and always called him Zhao Big Eyes.

Sheng Xiping observed from the hillside that the four dogs belonging to Old Zhao's family were indeed not very tough; they were not big enough and their bites were not vicious enough.

Moreover, that three-hundred-pound running basket is also called a "troublemaker," with two fangs as sharp as blades, extremely sharp, and most likely to injure dogs.

“No, these four dogs can’t stay still in this basket; they might get hurt.” Sheng Xiping looked at it and shook his head.
