Zhang Shuzhen then realized that all these people had come to offer their congratulations.
So, that means the daughter-in-law and second son's supporting documents passed the test, and the bureau agreed to let them go to school.
"Oh, thank you, Principal Wang! Thank you for your kind words," Zhang Shuzhen replied with a smile.
"Xi'an, Qinglan, come here quickly. You two should thank Principal Wang for his guidance."
"Xi'an is Principal Wang's student, and Qinglan, you are a teacher at the school. Without Principal Wang's favor, would you have had this opportunity today?"
Zhang Shuzhen waved to her eldest daughter-in-law and second son, signaling them to come over and thank Principal Wang.
Zhou Qinglan is such a smart person; she understood immediately and quickly came over to bow to Principal Wang.
"Principal Wang, thank you for your promotion and cultivation. Without you, I would still be stuck on the mountain measuring, how would I have time to review for the exam? Thank you very much, Principal Wang."
Sheng Xi'an also came forward to thank Principal Wang for his guidance.
Regardless, Sheng Xi'an was a student at Qianchuan Middle School, and now that he has made something of himself, it is all thanks to Principal Wang's excellent guidance.
This made Principal Wang extremely happy; his mouth stretched from ear to ear.
"Good, good, you are all good children. When you go out, you must study hard, learn more skills, and become useful people for the country in the future."
Don't let your parents, relatives, friends, teachers, and classmates down.
Principal Wang patted Sheng Xi'an on the shoulder and gave him some words of advice with great satisfaction.
The crowd lingered outside the Sheng family's gate for a while longer before dispersing.
Sheng Xiping picked up his eldest son with one arm and carried a lot of things with the other, walking into the house. Sheng Xi'an and Zhou Qinglan also carried a lot of things into the house, some on their backs and some on their shoulders.
On the kang (heated brick bed) in the east room, Erbao and Sheng Xinyu were fast asleep.
The baby was only fussy for about ten days or half a month after giving birth, but then gradually got better and started to have a regular routine, taking a nap in the morning and another in the afternoon.
If the baby has a full feeding before going to bed at night, and then wakes up again around 2 or 3 a.m. to be fed again, they can sleep through the night.
Five-month-old Sheng Xinyu looks just like Sheng Xinhua when he was a child, only not as chubby as Sheng Xinhua was back then.
Of course, this is only compared to Sheng Xinhua. Compared to other children, he is also fat.
Seeing that the child was sleeping soundly, no one dared to make too much noise and gently placed the things on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Then, the three of them first organized all the relevant documents, including the certificates signed and stamped by the leaders of the forest farm and the bureau, as well as Sheng Xi'an and Zhou Qinglan's files, household registration, grain rations, and group affiliations, and put them into two file folders along with the notification letter.
Without these things, you can't register for school.
Only then did Sheng Xiping begin to report the accounts, clarifying how much money was made from selling the mountain products, how much money was spent on selling them, and how much was left.
As for the remaining money, Sheng Xiping kept half and the family kept the other half.
"Mom, the second son and Qinglan are both supposed to report before March 15th. I'm thinking we shouldn't go too late, since this place is too remote and it's inconvenient to go out."
They'll leave home on March 1st or 2nd. I'll take them both to the provincial capital, settle Qinglan in first, and then send the second child to Harbin.
Sheng Xiping sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) and discussed the matter with everyone.
Of all the family members, only Sheng Liancheng and Sheng Xiping had ever been to the provincial capital.
Sheng Liancheng is working on the mountain and doesn't know when he'll be able to come down.
The logging season isn't over yet, and Sheng Liancheng's job is quite important, so he probably won't have time to take Sheng Xi'an to school.
Therefore, this task fell to Sheng Xiping.
Luckily, these two schools are on the same line and on the way. If one were in the south and the other in the north, it would be difficult to handle.
That's why Sheng Xiping said that he would first send Zhou Qinglan to Northeast Normal University in the provincial capital and settle her in, and then he would send Sheng Xi'an to Harbin Institute of Technology.
Once the second son is settled, he can simply take a car back.
In her entire life, the farthest Zhang Shuzhen had ever traveled was from her hometown in Shandong to Northeast China; she had never been anywhere else.
She had never even seen what the provincial capital was like, and she didn't understand any of these things, so she had to rely on Sheng Xiping to arrange everything.
"Okay, let's do it this way then. Just discuss it and make sure it doesn't delay the start of the semester."
"There's something else. Didn't I mention it the other day? I was planning to host a few tables to celebrate for the second brother and Qinglan."
"Mom, what date do you suggest? I'm on the night shift these two days, so I'll take the dog up the mountain during the day to see what it catches, and then we can make the banquet look decent."
Two college students from our family, both from top-tier universities, must be incredibly lucky for the Sheng family.
Such a joyous occasion deserves a celebration!
The Sheng family isn't some high-ranking official's family, so they don't need to worry about any impact or not. They don't need to be low-key; they can be as flamboyant as they want, and nobody will care. They should just celebrate properly.
“Yes, yes, this matter must be done. Okay, then let’s do it your way.” The eldest son’s idea was very thoughtful, and Zhang Shuzhen had no objections.
And so, the mother and her children discussed and settled the important matters. Then, Sheng Xi'an and Zhou Qinglan packed their things in advance to avoid being caught off guard before leaving.
In university, you sleep in beds, but I wonder what the dorm rooms are like. These days, there aren't electric blankets or anything like that, so the beds probably can't be too warm.
So Sheng Xiping specially packed up the wolfskin rugs at home and gave one to each of them.
This thing keeps out the cold and damp, and it's very warm when you put it under your sheets.
The luggage was all at home, so there was no need to make it from scratch. We simply rolled it up together with the wolfskin rug and tied it securely with rope.
They brought all the necessary clothes, and Zhang Shuzhen and Zhou Qinglan even found someone to help them quickly make two sets of clothes for each of them using the fabric they had bought.
