Chapter Ninety-Two: The Badger Shoots Down with a Cannon

Chapter 93 The Badger is Slaughtered by Cannon Fire

Er bang jiao is a type of firecracker that most families set off during the Lunar New Year.

Sheng Xiping started learning his craft from his master at the age of thirteen. He began by carrying loads on slopes and the following year he learned to rush to battle.

Hunters typically use methods such as shouting loudly, hitting trees with sticks, and setting off firecrackers to engage in hunting.

Sheng Xiping preferred to use firecrackers, especially the double-bang type, which made a loud noise and could scare away prey.

They came to see the land turn green, but no one knew what wild animals might enter the fields at this time.

So when Sheng Xiping left home, he packed a few firecrackers, hoping they might come in handy if anything happened.

Everything went smoothly last night, and we found the badger's den without any problems this morning.

But getting the badger out of its burrow is a bit of a hassle.

To hunt badgers, you must get them out of their burrows.

This thing has thick skin and isn't easy to kill. If you can't kill it in one hit and it retreats back into its cave, it will never come out again.

There are other ways to smoke the badger out of its burrow.

For example, you can catch two mice and tie strips of cloth soaked in gasoline or diesel to their bodies.

If you put a mouse in a hole, it will catch fire and run around wildly inside.

If the cloth strips are soaked in oil and do not burn completely, they will produce a lot of smoke, which will scare the badger out.

Where could they catch mice in the mountains?

Besides, even if we catch the rat, we still have to go back to the farm to get diesel or gasoline, which is too much trouble.

Sheng Xiping remembered that he had firecrackers in his pocket, so he decided to use those; they should work well too.

They were all young people, all bold and full of bad ideas.

When everyone saw the firecracker that Sheng Xiping pulled out, their eyes lit up and they all grinned mischievously.

Then, everyone got to work.

They went into the woods and cut down a few sticks about two meters long, then braided two firecracker fuses together and tied them to the end of one stick.

Then prepare a bundle of grass to use as a plug for the hole.

This badger den is quite large, and Sheng Xiping was worried that one set of firecrackers wouldn't be enough.

So Gao Haining, Wang Jianshe, and I each took a stick, tied a firecracker to it, and then found three holes.

The three of them worked together, lit the fuse of the firecracker, and quickly stuck the stick into the hole as deep as possible.

Then block the entrance with grass, step back a few paces, and keep an eye on the situation inside the cave.

The others carried sticks and remained vigilant, keeping a close watch on their surroundings.

Especially those holes we just discovered, where badgers ran out, we just went up and knocked them unconscious with a stick.

As for Erlang Shen and General Hei, Sheng Xiping took them to a slightly farther place to keep an eye on their surroundings.

Badger dens usually have hidden ventilation openings, which are often partially covered by dry grass and are not easy to find.

Erlang Shen and the Black General act swiftly, and any fish that manages to escape will not be able to escape the two dogs' pursuit.

It is said that the first blast of a firecracker is made of black powder, while the second blast is made of gray powder.

Just as Sheng Xiping and the other two quickly blocked the entrance and retreated, they heard one explosion after another.

The first bang wasn't very loud, but a second or two later, a series of deafening explosions followed.

Everyone felt the ground beneath their feet tremble, and echoes resounded one after another.

After the explosions stopped, Sheng Xiping stepped forward and moved the grass aside, and thick smoke billowed out of the cave entrance.

Thick smoke began to emerge from the several holes that had been found.

Amidst the thick smoke, four or five large badgers emerged from several burrows.

Chen Weiguo and the others were all watching the cave entrance. Upon seeing this, they immediately grabbed wooden sticks and went forward to hit the badger.

The badger was probably dizzy from the explosion and fumes from the sulfurous smoke from the firecrackers, so it wasn't moving very fast.

Before they could even turn and run, Chen Weiguo and his men beat them mercilessly with sticks, causing them to scream in agony and become unable to move in an instant.

The four badgers were killed just like that.

Sheng Xiping was about to say, "Quickly bleed and open the body!" But then, Erlang Shen and the Black General, who were not far away, roared and rushed more than twenty meters away.

It turned out there was a hidden hole over there, and three badgers, one big and two small, crawled out of it.

The three badgers weren't very fast. Erlang Shen rushed over and bit the largest one hard, while Black General bit one of the smaller ones.

By the time Sheng Xiping and the others reacted and rushed over, the other smaller one had already darted into the bushes and run away.

"It's a pity one got away," Gao Haining said with considerable regret.

"Fine, you really intend to make them extinct?"

"Leaving one small one behind won't amount to anything, so let's just leave it at that." Sheng Xiping shook his head and chuckled.

If these guys weren't so destructive to crops, he wouldn't bother coming to raid the badger den.

We caught four last night, and just killed seven more. There's only one left in this family, that's enough. We can't wipe them out completely.

Upon hearing this, everyone laughed. "That's right, let it live."

Together, everyone worked to bleed and gut all the badgers.

That night was incredibly fruitful; they caught more than ten badgers.

The largest weighs twelve or thirteen pounds, while the smallest weighs six or seven pounds.

No one expected such a big haul when we went out last night; we only brought one bag, which wasn't enough to hold it all.

There's no other way, I'll just have to carry it.

And so, Sheng Xiping carried a gun and led two dogs, while the others either carried bags or carried badgers.
