The snow in the mountains was heavy, with some places the snow reaching waist-deep. Luckily, there were people running baskets and dogs ahead who had cleared a path.
Especially that running basket, with its large size of five or six hundred pounds, it actually managed to carve out a path through the mountains and forests.
Sheng Xiping and the others followed the tracks in the snow, traversing mountains and valleys to catch up. They were all exhausted, their faces flushed and panting heavily.
But at this moment, no one dared to stop and rest.
No one knew what was happening ahead, or how far the dog was. They couldn't hear it barking, and everyone was worried that something might have happened to the dog. They dared not stop to rest. They had to grit their teeth and keep chasing.
As Sheng Xiping walked, he raised his gun and fired two shots into the air, trying to call the dog back.
Sheng Xiping knew better than anyone how capable his own dog was.
Erlang Shen's chariot was good, but it could only travel seven or eight li at most. Beyond that distance, the dog would be exhausted.
Sheng Xiping estimated that Erlang Shen and the dogs shouldn't be too far away, so he thought he'd fire a couple of shots to call the dogs back.
We caught two sows today, that's enough. The meat in that big basket still has a musty smell, it's not very tasty. If we can't catch any more, we'll just give up.
After firing two shots, there was no response from afar. Seeing this, Sheng Xiping had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue chasing forward.
After Sheng Xiping and his group crossed the ridge, they followed the footprints in the snow and found that the ground was covered with messy footprints, some of which belonged to dogs and others to pigs.
Needless to say, a major battle just broke out here.
The group continued down the mountain following the footprints and found traces of blood on the ground.
A little further on, we suddenly saw a large pool of blood, and there seemed to be traces of something sitting on the snow.
"We're too late. That running basket should have settled down here, but unfortunately we didn't get here in time. It rested for a while and then ran off again."
Sheng Xiping was an experienced hunter, and he could tell what was going on just by looking at the ground.
When hunting dogs go into the mountains to surround wild boars, if they can force the wild boar to sit down, this is called "setting up a den".
This also includes both "flower nests" and "dead nests".
Huawo saw the wild boar sit down and not move, but if the wild boar rested for a while and the hunter hadn't arrived yet, it was very likely that the wild boar would get up and walk again.
A dead burrow is when a wild boar stays put in one spot and won't move no matter how much the dog bites or barks.
The current situation indicates that the wild boar has stopped here. It is estimated that Sheng Xiping and his group arrived too late, and the wild boar had stopped to rest enough before breaking out of the hunting dogs' encirclement again.
The wild boar ran away, and the dog was nowhere to be seen. Sheng Xiping was so anxious that he simply picked up his gun and fired into the air again.
Faintly, it sounded like dogs barking coming from the ditch below.
"If you're tired, take a rest. I'll go after them."
Everyone loves their own dog. Sheng Xiping knew that the dogs had reached their physical limit, and he was extremely worried, fearing that something might happen to them.
But Wang Jianshe and the others were all exhausted, and Sheng Xiping couldn't very well tell them to follow along. So he left a sentence and started chasing after them himself.
Sheng Xiping and his family left home around nine in the morning, and it was almost noon now.
I ran almost non-stop the whole way, which was very physically demanding, and I was feeling a bit dizzy and weak in the legs.
But now was not the time to rest. Wang Jianshe and the others took a breath and followed Sheng Xiping down the mountain.
At that moment, in the ditch at the bottom of the mountain, six dogs once again surrounded the large running basket.
By this point, both sides were almost completely exhausted, clinging on with their last breath.
When Sheng Xiping fired the gun, the dogs heard the noise and knew that their master was probably not far away.
So they all rallied their spirits and did everything in their power to keep the pig alive today.
By this time, all six dogs were injured, but their eyes were exceptionally fierce as they charged forward, howling.
Black General bit the nose of the running basket, Fat Tiger and Fortune bit the wild boar's ear, and Wangfu bit the soft meat under the wild boar's foreleg.
These four dogs specifically bite the front half of the wild boar, while Erlang Shen and the leopard focus their attacks on its hindquarters.
The wild boar's two testicles had already been bitten off, so Erlang Shen began to pluck out the tender flesh around the wild boar's anus.
Wild boars have thick, tough skin and are covered in a mixture of pine resin and gravel, which acts like armor, making them extremely defensive.
But the back of the body is the only vulnerable spot, offering little protection.
Erlang Shen always bites at these vital spots; how could the basket withstand that? It must be excruciatingly painful.
But at this moment, the front half of the running basket was held down by four dogs and it could not get up, so it could only exert force from its lower back.
With its two hind legs braced against the ground, it first stuck its buttocks up, then swayed from side to side, trying to shake off Erlang Shen.
But Erlang Shen was also fighting desperately at this moment. No matter how the wild boar shook, it wouldn't let go and held on tightly. Erlang Shen dug into the wild boar's hindquarters, leaving it a bloody mess.
Both the leopard and Erlang Shen used the same attack method: grabbing the groin. At this moment, Erlang Shen had his jaws firmly locked on the wild boar's rear end, leaving the leopard with no way to use its attack.
The dog turned left and right, trying to find a place to bite, just as the wild boar stuck out its hindquarters and lifted its belly off the ground.
No one knows what flashed through the leopard's mind, but the dog stretched its head directly to the underside of the running basket and bit down hard on the pig gun.
After biting down, it pulls hard backward.
Then, the pig let out a terrible scream, all its strength vanished instantly, and it collapsed to its knees on the snow.
Luckily, the leopard retreated quickly, otherwise it would have been crushed by the running basket.
The dog was quite clever; it dodged in a flash, then moved to the boar's hindquarters and swung at the wild boar's testicles again.
