Chapter 333 Quack Doctor

Seeing Chef Wang's mother lying stiffly on the kang (a heated brick bed) with a large bump on her forehead, the neighbor started shouting at the top of his lungs.

Upon hearing this, Juanzi glanced at her husband lying on the kang with his eyes closed, hesitated for a moment, and then plunged into the west room without looking back.

"Mom! Who...who did this to me? Mom!" Soon, Juanzi's shrill screams rang out.

The look in Su Ruyi's eyes, now tinged with a deeper meaning, came from the man with the bulbous nose.

He moved his body subtly, as if afraid Su Ruyi would run away, blocking the doorway.

At this moment, the neighbors who had come to watch the commotion began to whisper among themselves:

"What's going on with Wang Changping's family?"

"Yeah, I just heard that Chef Wang was sick a couple of days ago, and he's already dead today! How come he got beaten up?"

"Did you offend someone?"

"Who exactly is that girl in their family?"

Listening to the neighbors' whispers, the doctor with the bulbous nose let out another cold snort: "Pathetic, pitiful, laughable!"

Seeing that everyone's eyes were on him, he pointed at Su Ruyi and said slowly, "Isn't it obvious? This girl is the lover of the man lying in bed!"

All eyes turned to Su Ruyi.

The doctor with the red nose continued smugly, "This girl came to see her lover while the man's wife was out, but she didn't expect to be home and run into him!"

Su Ruyi narrowed her eyes.

The doctor with the red nose thought she was scared, which further convinced him of his judgment: "This girl knocked the old lady unconscious because she was afraid of being exposed!"

Su Ruyi's eyes turned cold.

The man with the red nose continued, spitting as he spoke, "When he finally saw his lover, he realized she was already terribly ill, so he decided to go all the way..."

Everyone looked at Su Ruyi, then at Chef Wang lying on the kang with his eyes closed, and they all showed suspicious expressions.

However, Juanzi seemed to believe it.

She turned her head blankly to Su Ruyi and asked timidly, "Is...is what he said true?"

"Sister-in-law, I'm Su Ruyi, the village doctor from Dingjiatun." Su Ruyi explained again, "Before you could't see, didn't a doctor come and give you acupuncture, prescribe medicine, and eye ointment? Do you remember?"

"Yes, that's true, but the doctor who treated me was an old man, not you!" Juanzi's expression became even more wary. "How do you know about this?! Why does my husband tell you everything?"

“Sister-in-law, listen to me—I gave Master Wang acupuncture, and he’s in a deep sleep right now, he’s not dead! I’ll remove the needles now, and he’ll wake up in a little while!” Su Ruyi said, and was about to step forward.

"Go! Go! Go!"

The doctor with the red nose suddenly reached out to shove Su Ruyi, "She's already cold, what are you still acting for? A village doctor, huh? Neighbors, hold her down, I'm going to search her thoroughly, she must have stolen something from this house!"

As he spoke, he began to roll up his sleeves.

Su Ruyi was furious. She grabbed his outstretched hand and, with a swift movement, lifted the sleazy, bulbous-nosed doctor up with one hand: "You think you're so great?!"

The doctor with the bulbous nose was lifted off the ground by a frail little girl. He hurriedly said, "Neighbors, did you see that? It's a woman..."

Before he could finish speaking, Su Ruyi threw it with all her might.

Everyone watched as the bulbous-nosed man, looking like a tattered sack, flew into the middle of the yard.

The moment he landed, his head hit the well opening, and he immediately lost consciousness.

The instant she threw him away, Su Ruyi simultaneously put the thumb ring on his thumb into her spatial storage—she had to study this thing. Anyway, Juanzi had taken it to see a doctor, and since she had cured Chef Wang's illness, taking one of his thumb rings wouldn't be unreasonable.

The neighbors were already stunned.

Su Ruyi reached into her bag and pulled out her barefoot doctor's certificate: "Who can read? I'm not a bad person, this is my barefoot doctor's certificate!"

An older woman snatched it away, saying, "Let me see!"

After looking at it, she handed the certificate back to Su Ruyi and clapped her hands, saying, "It really is a barefoot doctor's certificate! Such a delicate little girl, I knew it! She doesn't look like a bad person at all!"

Juanzi finally stepped forward timidly: "Girl, you...you just said that my man...is not dead yet?"

Su Ruyi sighed again: "I went to the state-run restaurant with Grandpa for lunch today. Chef Wang's apprentice said he was too sick to get out of bed, so I came to check on him. As soon as I entered, I saw your mother-in-law lying at the door... I helped her up and took a look..."

"My husband, is he... dead or not?" Juanzi didn't want to hear about her mother-in-law's life or death; she only cared about her husband.

“He’s not dead. I’ll remove the needles now. He’ll wake up in about ten minutes!” Su Ruyi said, as she went back to Chef Wang’s side, reached out and removed all the silver needles from his body, putting them back into her needle case.

Everyone stared wide-eyed at Chef Wang's face.

Su Ruyi leisurely moved a stool and sat down by the door.

Juanzi bit her lip hard, staring intently at Chef Wang's face.

About seven or eight minutes later, Chef Wang made a sound in his throat.

Juanzi rushed forward, grabbed one of his hands with both, and shook it, crying, "Husband! Husband, wake up!"

Chef Wang's throat made another sound, and then he opened his eyes.

Seeing Juanzi with tears streaming down her face, his gaze didn't linger, but instead drifted straight to Su Ruyi at the door, and he sat up abruptly: "Dr. Su, what brings you here?!"

Su Ruyi stepped forward and asked curiously, "Why didn't you take the medicine I gave you?"

Chef Wang blushed immediately: "That medicine...that medicine...I...I gave it to an old friend of many years. Before, I felt that his...his illness was more serious than mine! Now I know...I was wrong..."

"This..." Su Ruyi didn't know what to say. She shook her head and said, "Luckily I came today! Master Wang, I've cured your lung disease. You won't have to sleep sitting up anymore!"

Chef Wang was overjoyed upon hearing this.

He took a few deep breaths and burst into tears: "I...I can breathe! This feeling...this feeling is so good! I haven't been able to breathe so freely in so many years!"

Su Ruyi nodded and continued, "I just went to the state-run restaurant with my grandfather. Your apprentice said you were too sick to get out of bed, so I came to check on you. As soon as I entered, I saw your mother lying on the ground with a cut on her forehead. She must have tripped over the threshold."

She did not mention that she had treated Chef Wang's mother.

As the two were talking, Chef Wang's mother woke up and, supported by several neighbors, walked over.
