The old man and the old woman agreed with what they heard. The old woman was furious. "Do you think our son thinks the same thing? It's just because we are senior and have children that they put up with it?"
Old man... "You don't know if your son is that kind of person, so don't take it personally."
"When we're left with only one person, we'll be able to see clearly whether they're wolves or sheep. From now on, we shouldn't use our resources to fill them up. We should save them for ourselves. We need to have a backup plan."
One morning, in the family building where Cao Jun was stationed, the elderly people were about to leave their hands for later use. They went home with their noses and faces humiliated, and felt that their sons and daughters-in-law were ungrateful.
When Cao Jun was at work, he felt that everyone looked at him in a strange way.
The leader called him to the office and criticized him harshly. All the anger that his parents had questioned him in the morning was directed at Cao Jun, and a rift arose in the family for no reason.
Cao Jun cursed bitterly and hurried to find Sister Liu, wanting to take her back to the family compound, to be filial to her and to save the situation.
But he had no idea where Sister Liu had moved to. If he had known, he would not have told Sister Liu the password last night.
He figured that Sister Liu didn't have many relatives, and since his sister had married far away, it was impossible for him to go to her place, so he could only go back to the slum.
Cao Jun rode his bicycle towards the slum and fell several times along the way. When he finally arrived at the slum, the door to the backyard was locked and no one was there.
He didn't recognize Jiang Fen in the front yard. He climbed through the window and saw Uncle Ge watching TV with his legs crossed. He hurried into the house and called out, "Uncle Ge!"
Uncle Ge saw that it was Cao Jun, but he didn't even stand up. "Xiao Jun, I haven't seen you for a few days. What are you doing here?"
"Uncle Ge, is my mother back?" Cao Jun rubbed his hands.
Uncle Ge shook his head. "Your mother came back once in the summer. I haven't seen her for a while. Why are you here looking for her?"
Cao Jun: "It's okay. My mom said she would come back to visit. I was passing by here, so I came to pick her up and take her back with me. But she might have felt cold, so she didn't come. So, I'll go back first, Mr. Ge."
"It's cold outside and I'm not in good health, so I won't see you off, Xiaojun." Uncle Ge didn't move and watched Cao Jun go out.
After Cao Jun left, Uncle Ge laughed sarcastically. He was so anxious to find his mother, probably because he was under pressure from the unit. His mother couldn't let him get promoted. Nothing more important than a word from the leader.
Cao's army searched all over the streets but couldn't find him after a whole day. In the evening, they came to ask Wu Zhiqiu and Da Laba.
Both of them said in unison, "No, we didn't see it. We really didn't see it today."
Cao Jun was angry and anxious. He searched for two days but couldn't find the person. Everyone in the unit had complaints about him. In the past two days, the old men and women had collectively rioted, demanding either pension money or the money from their grandparents' families. Everyone wanted to manage their own money and didn't trust them at all.
Cao Jun gritted his teeth and explained to his superiors that his mother had returned to the old house and wanted to live alone, and he was not angry with them.
The leader looked at Cao Jun with a smile. His filial son had been questioned by the old lady about his performance these days, just for the money in their hands. How could he not be angry?
However, this is not a matter of principle, and the leader cannot do anything to Cao Jun, so he let him go back.
Cao Jun was so angry that he went home, closed the door, and scolded his wife harshly.
The daughter-in-law was so angry that she took the child back to her parents' home.
Sister Liu took out the money the next day, deposited it again, and returned Wu Zhiqiu's money.
When she heard that Cao Jun was looking for her, she knew what was going on. It must be that the old man who helped her go home had said something to his son. Otherwise, how could his son, who was so eager for her to move away, come looking for her so soon?
Sister Liu ignored these things and told Wu Zhiqiu and the others not to pay attention to Cao Jun. She dressed warmly and stood at the bus station entrance, selling buns and tea eggs.
There are many people doing small business. Sister Liu's food is very fragrant and her business is very good. As she puts the money into her pocket, she feels a long-lost sense of security.
