When Old Man Guan heard that Xiaoyu had a boyfriend who was a doctor and whose surname was Guan, the wrinkles on his old face spread out like terraced fields with a smile.
The long-suffering man in his thirties has finally found a solution. The profession of doctor, blindly, naturally evokes goodwill.
Two days later, the young man came to visit. Old Man Guan hadn't gone home for those two days, waiting for his grandson-in-law to arrive.
The young man was 1.8 meters tall, with a well-proportioned build, slightly dark skin, smiling eyes, and a slightly upturned mouth. He looked cheerful and had a very cheerful demeanor.
"This is Guan Bo, this is my grandfather, my grandmother, my biological grandfather, my parents, my second uncle and aunt..."
Xiaoyu introduced them one by one, and Qibo politely greeted the elders.
Old Guan was fairly satisfied with the young man's appearance and height, but more importantly, he was satisfied with his job.
"Come and sit down," Old Man Guan beckoned.
Guan Bo first took out the gifts he had brought; everyone in the family received one.
"Xiao Guan, you've gone to so much trouble," Wu Zhi Qiu said politely.
"Auntie, it's my pleasure," Guan Bo said, sitting down next to Old Man Guan.
"Where are you from?" Old Guan began checking the household registration, asking very detailed questions.
Old Man Guan felt that there weren't many people with the surname Guan. If their ancestors were from the capital, they might be related to them.
Guan Bo answered each question one by one. His family was indeed from the capital, but his grandfather's generation moved to the south. However, Guan Bo's grandfather's name was not familiar to the old man, so he didn't know if he had changed his name.
Guan Bo is very talkative and has high emotional intelligence, and he was very pleased with Old Man Guan.
"Grandpa, does he look like my dad?" Xiaoyu asked secretly.
Old Man Guan glanced at the young man talking to Li Mancang and said, “No, this kid is very shrewd. He knows what kind of child we like, so he pretends to be honest. Your father, Li Mancang, is genuinely honest. I’m not saying he’s bad, but he’s read so many books, he’s knowledgeable, and he’s been to many different circles. Your girlfriend can’t possibly be as naive as Mancang.”
Xiaoyu gave Old Man Guan a thumbs up, "Grandpa, you're really amazing!"
"As long as he treats you well, that's enough. You're quite shrewd, but it's okay if he doesn't. There are plenty of men out there. If one doesn't work out, we'll find another. No matter what, I'll always be your support." Old Man Guan didn't think his daughter was a naive, love-struck fool. If she were, she would have found someone long ago.
“Sir, you know me best. At my age, I need someone who is suitable in every way before I can find a partner. I don’t want to help others or marry above my station. I won’t date someone whose family is a mess. He meets all my standards. Most importantly, his surname is Guan, so there won’t be any issues with the surname of our future children.”
"You silly girl, you're so thoughtful. What does it matter if you have a surname or not? As long as you're doing well, that's all that matters," Old Man Guan patted Xiaoyu's hand.
Xiaoyu smiled. Her grandfather had raised her and planned for her; she didn't want him to have any regrets.
After lunch, Xiaoyu saw Guan Bo off.
"Brother, what do you think of this grandson-in-law? Are you satisfied?" Old Guan asked, leaning closer to the old man.
The old man didn't even lift his eyelids. "So what if I'm not satisfied? Does that mean we can't proceed? Does my opinion matter?"
"A PhD, a doctor, and a handsome young man, what's there to be unhappy about?" Old Guan retorted.
"Get lost, stop arguing with me," the old man said irritably.
