Chapter 58 Living Person

Shao Jie and Xiao Peng carefully observed the area. "There's nothing different, but isn't the entrance a bit too clean?"

There was a clear drag mark at the entrance, stretching from inside the house all the way to the street. Due to the passage of time, the mark had faded considerably, and in some places it was no longer visible.

There were also a few drag marks in the yard, which were darker and more obvious than the one from inside the house.

Other courtyards aren't as clean as this one; they all have some trash or dismembered parts lying around.

Xiao Peng nodded, but something seemed different, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Cheng Shaolin felt the same way; it was strange and hard to explain.

That's my first impression.

“The curtains in this house are all drawn.” Cheng Shaolin raised his head, gesturing for them to look up.

Shao Jie and Xiao Peng looked up and saw that every curtain facing the street was indeed drawn tightly shut, making it impossible to see inside.

They turned to look around again, and saw that the curtains of other houses were more or less not drawn. Oh, and it seemed that some houses further away had their curtains drawn.

That was the one on the right that Li Xiao mentioned had people inside.

They turned around and looked at Cheng Shaolin with some confusion. It wasn't that they didn't understand, but rather that they were hesitant to think that way.

We've been walking for so long and haven't run into many people. How come we're going to run into someone in such a desolate town?

It's unbelievable; I dare not even think about it.

Cheng Shaolin nodded. "You can go in and take a look, but be careful."

Shao Jie and Xiao Peng both widened their eyes. Really?

How do I deal with this inexplicable excitement?

The two quickened their pace, clearing away the approaching zombies as quickly as possible.

They moved towards the building while fighting.

Tian Tian and Meng Yang heard what they were saying, but they didn't understand what they were planning to do. However, they still cooperated and moved with them.

Step by step, I arrived at the door of the house. At this point, I wondered if I should knock?

Shao Jie and Xiao Peng exchanged a glance, both wanting to see the answer in each other's eyes. However, neither of them knew whether they should knock on the door.

Finally, Shao Jie knocked on the door. "Is anyone home? Open the door, or we'll just come in ourselves."

After waiting for several minutes without anyone opening the door, Cheng Shaolin, who was standing behind them, raised his head to signal them to go in.

Shao Jie kicked the door open and immediately heard suspicious noises from upstairs.

At first, Meng Yang and Tian Tian didn't understand what they were doing, knocking on the door as if there was someone inside.

When they kicked open the door and heard the sounds coming from inside, their eyes widened.

After a moment of silence, they all looked at Cheng Shaolin, waiting for him to come in and give them instructions.

Cheng Shaolin said nothing and gestured for everyone to go upstairs.

She gave Xiao Peng a look, and Xiao Peng instantly understood that she was telling him to be careful.

Xiao Peng nodded to indicate that he understood. He went upstairs first, as earth element was the best defense.

I slowly walked up the stairs, turned a corner, and arrived at the second floor.

There's a living room right upstairs, with a room on each side.

They entered a room from each side.

Cheng Shaolin and Tian Tian went to the left, while Shao Jie, Xiao Peng, and Meng Yang went to the right.

Tian Tian followed Cheng Shaolin and slowly pushed open the door on the left, which led to a bedroom.

There's a table by the window, completely empty. Opposite the door is a small sofa, next to which is a bed, and at the far end against the wall is a cabinet. Next to the cabinet is a door, which is open, leading to a bathroom.

Cheng Shaolin walked to the cabinet, suddenly pulled open the door, and found nothing inside except a piece of clothing.

They went to the bathroom again but found nothing. Cheng Shaolin and Tian Tian met eyes; there was no one there.

The other room has a similar layout to this one, only the items are different in style.

There was also a table, but it was against the wall, not facing the window. Next to it was a bed, and there was a cabinet against the wall. Behind it was the bathroom.

There was no one in the room, and the bathroom door was closed.

They first opened the bathroom door and found no one inside.

Then I looked at the cabinet; it was the only place I could hide.

Xiao Peng walked over and slowly opened the closet door. Apart from a few pieces of clothing, a dark object was curled up among the clothes underneath the closet.

Even with the light blocked, it's impossible to tell whether it's a man or a woman inside.

Cheng Shaolin and his group arrived at this moment. Seeing the person hiding inside, they asked, "Are you planning to hide inside and not come out?"

The dark figure trembled incessantly and slowly raised its head.

His gaunt cheeks were so thin that there was hardly any flesh left; only his lifeless eyes made him look alive.

His dry, cracked lips looked like they hadn't had a drink of water in ages, and his whole being exuded a lifeless aura.

Xiao Peng pulled open the man's clothes to let him out. Everyone fell silent as they watched the man tremble and stagger out.

These clothes, worn for who knows how long, were so faded that their original color was unrecognizable. A nauseating stench emanated from her, wafting into their nostrils with each step she took.

Although she had lost a lot of weight, you could still tell she was a woman.

Cheng Shaolin looked at Tian Tian and gestured for her to give him a bottle of water.

When the woman saw Tian Tian take a bottle of water out of her backpack, she became excited. Her fierce, wolf-like eyes startled Tian Tian.

But she didn't dare to go forward and take it; with so many people around, she was too afraid to move.

When Tian Tian handed her the water, she snatched it and tried to open it to drink, but couldn't open it for a long time.

Watching her struggle to twist the bottle cap while panting heavily was heartbreaking.

After much fumbling, it finally opened and I could finally get some water.

She kept swallowing, her cheeks puffed out, not wanting to waste even a single drop.

The bottle of water was quickly emptied, and she tilted her head back to catch each drop as it dripped down...

Drinking this bottle of water took a lot of her energy; she was still panting after finishing it.

Once she finishes drinking, I can properly ask her what happened.

"What's your name? Are you all alone? Are there any other survivors like you?"

The woman looked at them, lowered her eyes, and said in a hoarse voice, "I... my name is Sun Ping, and I'm all alone."

Do you know if there are any other survivors like you?

Sun Ping raised her eyes and then lowered them again. "I don't know, I haven't gone out."

Cheng Shaolin's eyes flashed, but he remained silent, letting Shao Jie continue asking.

"What are you planning to do? Is there a survivor base you'd like to go to?"

Sun Ping raised her head and then shook her head.

They all exchanged glances and decided to go back and make plans later.

"What are you planning to do? Come down with us or stay here?"

"Can I come with you? I want to leave here." After saying that, she glanced timidly at Shao Jie, who was speaking.

Seeing Shao Jie nod, she gave a shy smile.

And so, I took her downstairs.
