Chapter 3 Environment

Lin Zhiyue slowly looked around. This dilapidated adobe house and its furnishings were so simple and almost shabby, every detail silently reminded her of the era and environment she lived in.

She took a deep breath, and the complex emotions in her chest calmed down a little, and her mind became clear: It seems that this time there is really no going back.

Her thoughts involuntarily drifted back to the days of the end of the world, when zombies were rampant and dangers were lurking on every side. Every time she went out to look for supplies, it was like dancing with death. She had to be on edge all the time, and if she was not careful, she would become the zombies' prey.

Now, living in this world of the 1970s, although living conditions are difficult and supplies are scarce, people have to work hard for three meals a day and a piece of clothing to cover their bodies, but fortunately, there are no more terrifying zombies and no life threats that may come at any time.

Looking back on my past, loneliness has been following me since the moment I was abandoned in an orphanage.

In the orphanage, other children had playmates and were laughing and playing, but she often sat alone in the corner, staring at the sky in a daze, her heart full of confusion about the future.

When she grew up, she made her mark in the field of scientific research through her own efforts. She was surrounded by mostly work partners, but few friends who could truly enter her heart.

Over the years, she has become accustomed to facing the ups and downs of life alone, swallowing all the grievances and tears alone.

Now that we are already here and cannot go back to our old world, we should bravely accept this reality.

Lin Zhiyue secretly clenched his fists, and a determined light gradually ignited in his eyes.

She silently encouraged herself in her heart: Although there is no advanced technology and no familiar living environment here, but precisely because of this, everything can start again.

She believed that with her wisdom and abilities, she would be able to live a good life in this difficult era.

Lin Zhiyue took a deep breath and decided to start by tidying up this room that carried the past of the original owner and officially integrate into this new world.

When she stepped into the house, the first thing that caught her eye was the large kang that occupied a corner of the room.

The kang surface was made of neatly stacked adobe bricks, and on it was covered a slightly worn but clean kang mat. There were several wears on the edges, revealing strands of straw core, as if telling the traces of time.

There were several neatly folded quilts placed at the head of the kang. Although the quilt covers had many patches on them, the stitches were fine, showing the original owner's family's dedication to life.

Next to the kang is a slightly mottled desk.

The paint on the desk has peeled off in many places, revealing the yellowed wood inside. A few high school textbooks are scattered on the table. The pages are slightly curled up and there is some wear on the corners. It is not difficult to imagine that the original owner once studied hard in front of this table.

Lin Zhiyue gently picked up one of the books and opened it. It was filled with notes. The handwriting was neat and beautiful, carrying the original owner's desire for knowledge.

Next to the desk, there is a locked cabinet.

Lin Zhiyue searched the room and finally found the key in the corner of the drawer.

When I opened the cabinet, a faint sweet fragrance instantly filled the air.

There were two cans in the cabinet. There was some rust on the cans and the labels were slightly yellowed, but the patterns on them could still be recognized. They must have been extremely precious food reserves in the original owner's home.

Next to it was a can of malted milk. The tin can was polished to a shine and gleamed faintly in the dim room. The delicate malt aroma seemed to emanate from the can.

There was also a bag of White Rabbit milk candy. Although the candy wrapper was a little wrinkled, the cute White Rabbit pattern could still be seen. Lin Zhiyue couldn't help but think of the scene where the original owner carefully peeled off the candy wrapper, put the milk candy into her mouth, and a happy smile appeared on her face.

In addition to these, there are some pastries in the cabinet, but over time, the pastries have become a little dry and cracked, and have lost their original softness.

In the other corner of the room, there was a wooden box.

Lin Zhiyue opened the box with great effort, and it was full of the original owner's clothes.

The most eye-catching thing is the two bragi skirts, one is sky blue, dotted with tiny white flowers, and the hem is slightly spread out, as if you can see the original owner dancing in the sun wearing it;

The other one is pink, with delicate lace at the neckline and cuffs. Although the skirt is a bit old, you can still see its exquisite craftsmanship.

In addition, there were 3 sets of cotton-padded jackets and 3 pairs of cotton-padded trousers in the box. The cotton in some places of the cotton-padded jackets had become hardened, and there were patches on the knees and buttocks of the cotton-padded trousers, but they were washed very cleanly.

There are seven or eight sets of clothes that are about seven or eighty percent new. The styles are relatively simple, mostly common styles of that era, and the colors are mainly black, blue and gray.

There are two sets of clothes with patches. The colors of the patches do not completely match the colors of the clothes themselves, but they are sewn very firmly, demonstrating the frugal lifestyle of the original owner's family.

Walking out of the room is the living room.

There is an octagonal table in the living room. The corners of the table have traces of bumps and the tabletop has some scratches, but it still stands there steadily.

There are several stools placed around the table. The stools are simple in style and the surfaces are a bit rough. You can feel the texture of the wood when you sit on them.

On the main wall of the living room hangs a portrait of a great man. The area around the portrait has been wiped clean. The great man in the portrait has a firm gaze, as if he is overlooking the house, giving people a solemn and warm feeling.

On one side of the living room is a grocery room.

Lin Zhiyue pushed open the door, and a smell of firewood, farm tools and sundries hit her face. The room was filled with all kinds of items, including farm tools such as hoes and sickles, as well as some worn-out baskets and sacks. There was also some firewood piled in the corner for making fire and cooking.

Opposite the living room is the room where mom and dad live.

The room was full of old furniture. A bed took up most of the space. The bedding was neatly folded, and there were some indelible stains on the sheets.

There was a wardrobe next to the bed with the door half-open. Hanging inside were a few old clothes of the original owner's parents, of old style and dull colors.

There is also a table and a chair in the room. On the table are some daily necessities, such as a mirror, a comb, etc. There are several scratches on the mirror, and the reflected figure is a little blurry.

Looking from the front yard, the yard is not big, about 20 square meters.

The ground was compacted with soil, and shallow footprints had been left in some places.

There were some sundries scattered around in the yard, and some firewood piled in the corner.

The backyard is bigger, about 50 square meters.

There are some vegetables planted in the backyard, including green cabbage, tender green spinach, slender leeks, etc. The soil in the vegetable field has been turned over and is very soft, and it can be seen that the original owner's family has taken good care of these vegetables.

There are also two chickens in the yard. They stroll leisurely in the yard, digging the soil with their claws from time to time, looking for food, and occasionally making a few crisp "cluck" sounds, adding a bit of vitality to this slightly deserted yard.
