Chapter 10: New Arrival

Chapter 10: New Arrival

After breakfast the next day, translator Wu Yi followed them to the airport. The Wilsons only knew a few simple Chinese words, so when Wu Yi left, they looked at Zhang Wei nervously, fearing that she would not be able to adapt and lose control.

When they found that Zhang Wei had quietly passed the security check and was sitting in the waiting room, they immediately called the ground service staff to communicate their needs with her.

After Zhang Wei went to the restroom, she started boarding the plane. She looked at the time on the screen. It was May 11, 1998. She was about to leave this strange yet familiar place and embark on an unknown journey.

After getting on the plane, Zhang Wei began to scan all the Chinese and English signs, trying hard to recall her previous memories, which led Emma to think that she was getting on the plane and began to show uneasiness.

Zhang Wei was just a little nervous about not being fully prepared and was eager to increase her English vocabulary. After all, their destination was New York, the most prosperous city in the United States.

Finally, with the help of the flight attendant, Zhang Wei was arranged to lie down and watch cartoons. That was fine, at least the cartoons were in English.

Perhaps she really didn't forget too much, or the words in the book were particularly simple, and Zhang Wei felt much more at ease after understanding them without too much difficulty. She slowly fell asleep to the sound of the cartoon.

When she woke up, she found that Emma had helped her take off her headphones, but her ears were badly blocked and she had a little tinnitus. She drank some water but found that it did not relieve the symptoms.

Not long after, they got off the plane, but they had not yet reached their destination and needed to transfer. After waiting for less than half an hour, before getting back on the plane, Zhang Wei's tinnitus finally subsided.

When Zhang Wei arrived at Wilson's house, it was already noon the next day.

There was plenty of sunshine outside, but the moment the car door opened, the cold wind made Zhang Wei shiver. The temperature was obviously lower than that in City A.

Then, accompanied by shouts of "Mom! Dad!", a little boy rushed out of the house like a cannonball, and was caught by Charles and lifted high.

"Oh! My baby! My little leopard Namir! Long time no see, did you miss me?"

"Dad! I missed you so much!"

Zhang Wei watched the little boy Namier and his parents kissing each other on the cheek with great joy, as if she was watching a real-life movie, just like the scenes in foreign movies.

Wilson then put his youngest son down, brought him to Zhang Wei, and said to him seriously:

"Namir, this is the new member of our family. She may not understand you for the time being, but you can greet her now. Her name is Wei...Wei, right?"

Zhang Wei didn't expect foreigners to understand the four tones. Seeing that he was struggling to pronounce the name, he decided to give it an English name. Then he said in English, "Hello, Namier, you can call me Vera."

Emma squatted down and held Zhang Wei in her arms, saying in surprise, "Wow, did Miss Wu teach you that? You're amazing! What a beautiful name, Vera!"

It was obvious that Namiel was not very fond of her new member, but he still greeted her politely:

"Hello, Vera."

Then the Wilsons, each holding one child, walked into the villa in front which had a British style. Zhang Wei saw two people moving the luggage to the car and driving it to a nearby garage. What evil capitalism!

As they walked, Zhang Wei heard Wilson and Namier chatting. He found that although he didn't understand some words, he could still roughly understand what they meant:

"Where are your brothers?"

"Lida hasn't come home yet, and Manny has been staying in the room and won't come out at all!" Namir was obviously a little angry.

Wilson took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat off Namier's forehead: "It's okay, baby, we'll bring Vera back, and you'll have a little friend."

Namier immediately buried his head in his father's shoulder and said in a muffled voice, "She's a girl. I can't play with girls."

"No, Namir, she is our family. You can't do this to your family. Mom is also a girl."

"Okay, I'll try my best."

In this way, Zhang Wei's first disliked person in the Wilson family, the little brother Namier, was conquered by his father Charles.

Walking into the house, unlike the British style outside, the interior is decorated in typical American style with rich colors. The living room is large and the carpet is dark brown. Zhang Wei feels that it feels softer than the one in the hotel.

A somewhat plump black woman came over and said something. Zhang Wei didn't understand, but Emma said "OK" and then said to Namier:

"Baby, go get Manny down and see what he's busy doing in the room!"

Namiel ran upstairs like a gust of wind. Emma was talking to the black woman. She spoke very quickly. Zhang Wei only understood a few words and knew they were talking about her. The black woman nodded repeatedly, then bent down and greeted her:

"Hi, Vera, I'm Betty."

She understood this. Zhang Wei looked at her huge body and bent down with some effort. Standing in front of her, she felt like she was being shrouded, feeling very oppressive. She looked into Betty's eyes and responded:

"Hello, Betty"

The whites of black people's eyes are really white. I used to hear people say that you can only see the teeth when looking at black people. Zhang Wei disagreed. You can clearly see the whites of the eyes. Thinking of this, she wanted to laugh and couldn't help but curl the corners of her mouth.

Emma said to Betty happily: "Look, Vera likes you! This is the first smile she has had since she got here."

At this time, Betty also smiled, showing her snow-white teeth, and picked up Zhang Wei, proving that what others said was not false.

Zhang Wei looked at her big white teeth and couldn't help laughing.

Suddenly the atmosphere in the living room became warm. At this time, a sound came from upstairs. Zhang Wei looked up and saw a super handsome boy appear at the stairs.

Unlike the chubby Namir, his facial features are exactly the same as Emma's, with fair skin and clear facial contours, but he has not fully grown yet, which makes his face softer and has a neutral beauty.

But he did not show any more emotions at this time. He just greeted his parents politely and glanced at Zhang Wei again. His gray-blue eyes did not show much emotion either.

Zhang Wei could sense that the handsome boy didn't welcome her. When Charles introduced Zhang Wei to him, he also greeted her obediently:

"Hello, Vera"

"Hello, Manny"

Zhang Wei could still hear his efforts to restrain politeness; he was a little brat with personality but also reasonable.

When there were more people around, Zhang Wei's translation system started to get confused. She found that the person she could understand best in this family was Namir, so she decided to overcome the language barrier step by step.

The most basic one is Namier, and the most senior one is the black housekeeper Betty.

This made Charles and his wife think that she liked Namir very much. Even Namir felt it. He was a little proud and a little disgusted, but he still shared his toys with her. What a cute little fat boy.
