Chapter 11: Financial Supporters

Chapter 11: Financial Supporters

Everyone took a short break. Charles kept chatting with Manny, and Namier showed Zhang Wei the dinosaur fossils he had dug up. Although Zhang Wei looked at them several times, he couldn't tell how they looked like dinosaurs.

Then Betty came over and asked everyone to eat. She provided Zhang Wei with a child seat, but Namier did not use it. Zhang Wei said no to Betty, and then climbed onto the chair next to her. She tried it and found that the area above her neck was above the table, so there was no problem eating.

Ever since Zhang Wei experienced the devastation of sweet potatoes in Chenjia Village, he has cured his picky eating habits from his previous life. Any food is better than going hungry. The Wilson family had Western food for lunch, which Zhang Wei ate well, but he always felt hungry without rice.

The meal was very quiet, even the youngest Namir ate very seriously. Betty, who was standing by, was obviously relieved when she saw Zhang Wei finish the last bit of salad on the plate.

In fact, Zhang Wei was also a little tired from eating. The Wilson's fork was too heavy, and the spoon was even heavier. She put the last corn on the plate into her mouth with the fork, and she felt relieved. She followed the others and wiped her mouth with a wet towel before sliding down from the chair.

After dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson went out and asked everyone to take care of Zhang Wei, but the two brothers agreed and then ran away without a trace.

Zhang Wei was also happy and comfortable, but Betty was very responsible and immediately took Zhang Wei to see the room. Zhang Wei went up to the second floor and found that there were many rooms. On the left side of the upstairs were Manny and Namier's rooms, and the right side originally only housed the eldest brother Leida, but now Zhang Wei was also there.

It was the first room on the right. After walking in, Betty immediately opened the window and a cool breeze blew in. Zhang Wei didn't know what she mumbled, but she only knew that her room was really well-equipped with a bathroom with a bathtub, a cloakroom with cabinets on two walls, and a large floor-to-ceiling window. It was really a dream room!

Betty put her things away, which were just a few sets of clothes and a bunch of dolls, as well as the simple backpack made of urea bags that Zhang Wei had never thrown away, with thirty yuan left in it. After putting everything away, the cloakroom was still very empty and looked a bit shabby. She touched Zhang Wei's head comfortingly.

When Betty was about to lead her downstairs, Zhang Wei pointed to the bed and said, "I want to rest for a while."

She said something quickly again, and Zhang Wei could only look at her blankly. Betty finally realized that she didn't understand what she said at all, so she walked over, closed the window, closed the door, and went out.

Zhang Wei immediately lay down on the bed. The bed was very soft. She had just wanted to relax for a while, but unexpectedly she actually fell asleep...

After waking up, Zhang Wei became interested in learning more about the place where she would live in the future.

Pushing open the sliding door leading to the balcony, Zhang Wei walked onto the balcony. The balcony was open, and the setting sun fell on her, but she was not at all scorched. As far as the eye could see, there were green trees. The houses were all like Wilson's, appearing to cover hundreds or thousands of square meters, and were not densely distributed. Even the nearest neighbor was separated by a large lawn, so the privacy was very good.

It was very different from the New York City Zhang Wei had imagined. She had imagined it to be a bustling city with bright lights and wine. It seemed that the Wilson family was well-off. After all, they had a full-time butler, chef and driver, which was not something that ordinary people could afford.

From this perspective, the Wilsons are her true financial sponsors. Thinking of this, Zhang Wei feels that it would be nice to treat the Wilsons as her bosses. She will be responsible for raising her daughter and treat it as an investment. She will repay them when she grows up.

So when Charles helped her and Namier cut the steak at dinner, she was able to overcome her psychological barriers and said, "Thank you, Dad!"

Seeing Emma's expectant eyes, Zhang Wei didn't show favoritism and asked, "Mom, can you help me get a piece of bread?"

Emma readily agreed, and the dinner table became joyful, although Manny was a little disapproving.

Zhang Wei suddenly felt that she didn't need to be so cautious. No one asked how much English she could speak because they didn't know her well enough. The Wilsons only praised her for being smart and thought she had a talent for languages, although this was almost broken later.

Then Zhang Wei became talkative, so much so that Namir wanted to turn around and leave when he saw her.

And he will soon get rid of this worry, because he will go to school, he will soon finish the first grade, and there is still a month before the holiday. As for Manny, he will soon leave the scope of elementary school students and will go to middle school next school year.

Zhang Wei spent two days hanging around the house. After the Wilsons came back, they were very busy. Often, they were the only ones eating. At noon, she was the only one eating lunch. She even knew where the edible berries were growing in the yard...

Finally, after four or five days, Charles and Emma finally had dinner at home again. Zhang Wei decided to take the initiative:

"Mom, I want to go to school like Namiel, is that okay?"

Emma said in surprise: "Vera, I thought you wanted to relax for a while first."

"I also want to relax for a while!" Namir shouted immediately.

Emma gave him a gentle yet serious look, and Namir immediately backed off. "Well, going to school isn't bad, Vera can come with me."

Emma explained to Zhang Wei, "Because the semester is almost over, I originally planned to let you go in September, but since you want to go, I'll ask Betty to ask the principal."

"Thank you, Mom!" Zhang Wei got a satisfactory answer and thought about going to school to see if it was what the Chinese people call happy education.

When Zhang Wei borrowed Namier's first-grade textbook and read it, she couldn't laugh anymore...

Because her vocabulary was not enough, and the content in the book was not a simple conversation, each topic had some technical terms, just like when Namier showed her the dinosaur fossils. In an assignment book, she was asked to write down the types of dinosaurs she knew about, name three places where dinosaur fossils could be excavated, and what preparations she needed to make if she wanted to excavate. Finally, she had to write about what new discoveries she had made in the research on dinosaur fossils.

Although Namier's words were not written neatly, Zhang Wei felt that she didn't know the meaning of many of them. Moreover, the teacher's evaluation was A. Namier was still a foreign elementary school bully!

Is this really a first grade social studies class?

Zhang Wei felt that even if she were to write in Chinese now, she would probably have to look up information on the computer. She would probably have to start from kindergarten...

As the saying goes, if you don't plan for the future, you'll have immediate worries. Zhang Wei was wondering when she could go to the bookstore and buy two dictionaries, at least to learn all the words, but her pockets were empty...

Oh, it’s not empty, I still have 30 RMB...

Alas, Zhang Wei didn’t sleep well that night.
