Chapter 12 Are We Compatriots?

Chapter 12 Are We Compatriots?

But things took a turn for the better the next day.

After breakfast in the morning, Emma did not go out immediately. She called Zhang Wei aside and said:

"Vera, the principal recommends that you not go to school for the time being."

Zhang Wei nodded. She accepted the result. This school was probably not an ordinary school. She probably wouldn't be able to keep up if she went there. She still had self-knowledge.

"But, since you want to study, I think I should hire a language teacher for you first. That way, by September you can communicate smoothly with your classmates. What do you think?"

Tutoring! Tutoring is good, tutoring is wonderful, tutoring is quaint, and Emma is so considerate to give me a pillow when I feel sleepy!

Zhang Wei said to Emma happily, "Thank you so much, Mom! I love studying!"

Emma was also infected by her joy and couldn't help but complain to her youngest son: "I'm glad that you are happy. It turns out that our whole family loves to study, except Namier!"

Before leaving, she told Betty to remember that the teacher would come at nine o'clock. Zhang Wei was waiting nervously and asked Betty to help her find paper and pen.

At 8:58, a sound came from the sensor at the door. This teacher is really punctual, Zhang Wei thought.

Betty went out to greet her, and soon Zhang Wei saw the new teacher. She might be Chinese. This was Zhang Wei's first thought when she saw her.

She looked very young, perhaps around twenty years old. In Zhang Wei's opinion, she was very beautiful, but she didn't have the kind of eye-catching beauty that Qin Yuan had. She had a youthful and energetic sweetness.

"Hello, I'm Jennifer, the tutor invited by Mrs. Wilson." Her voice was also very gentle, and she was greeting Betty.

"Hello, I'm Betty. I'll be entertaining you from now on. That's Miss Vera, your classmate." Betty led her to the living room, and Zhang Wei stood up and walked to her.

"You are as beautiful as an angel. You are Vera. Nice to meet you!" Teacher Jennifer immediately squatted in front of Zhang Wei and smiled like a flower.

But Zhang Wei was not very interested. She had too many expressions and her smile did not reach her eyes, which looked a bit unnatural.

However, Zhang Wei still responded in a friendly manner: "Hello, Jennifer."

"You can speak English?!" She was obviously a little surprised and said to her in Chinese.

Zhang Wei also spoke frankly in Chinese: "I only know a little bit."

Seeing that they were communicating in Chinese, Betty nodded with satisfaction and went to prepare drinks.

Zhang Wei took Jennifer upstairs. She actually didn't like others entering her private space, but the living room was a public area, and the family seemed to have clearly divided it, so everyone did their personal things in their own room.

There is also a desk in the room, which is convenient.

As soon as they entered the room, Jennifer's scrutiny became more obvious, but Zhang Wei ignored her. It is normal for people to be curious.

As a result, in the two hours of the morning, she only prepared to teach her a few simple conversations and kindergarten fruit cards...

Jennifer finished all the preparations in just 5 minutes. She said a little awkwardly, "I heard you've only been here for less than a week."

Zhang Wei nodded: "Yes, I learned to speak a little from Namier."

"Is Namiel the youngest child in his family?" Jennifer's attention shifted.

But Zhang Wei didn't want to talk to her about anything else. She was very pressed for time. There were only more than three months left before school started in September. She couldn't say she wanted to change teachers. After all, these were all provided by the Wilsons.

But at least they could practice their English conversation. Zhang Wei figured it out and replied in English: "Yes, he is the youngest boy. He knows where the dinosaurs are, don't you know?"

Jennifer was not stupid either. She immediately began to guide Zhang Wei to start answering questions. Then Zhang Wei asked her to write down the words she was not familiar with on paper. During this time, Betty came over to bring her some water and then left quietly.

But the Chinese translation she wrote was in traditional Chinese. Zhang Wei finally understood why she always felt that her Mandarin was a bit strange. She might be Taiwanese, but she didn't have a strong Taiwanese accent, just a slightly different tone.

Before leaving, Zhang Wei asked her if she could bring a dictionary tomorrow. Although Jennifer agreed, she always felt that she agreed reluctantly.

Although these two hours were worse than she expected, it was not without results. In the afternoon, Zhang Wei asked Betty to turn on the TV for her, and she took a pen to write down the words she didn't understand and ask Jennifer the next day.

Within a few days, the whole family knew that Zhang Wei was learning English non-stop. Wilson gave her a complete set of English dictionaries and grammar books. To her surprise, there was also a Chinese-English dictionary in it, because Jennifer had only brought an English dictionary before, which Zhang Wei was not comfortable using.

Namir agreed to let Zhang Wei read his homework and textbooks when he was away, and even Manny gave her a pen.

Through this incident, Zhang Wei learned that the Wilson family attaches great importance to giving positive feedback to family members. The atmosphere of the whole family encouraging her to do something made her happy. She finally understood why many foreign children are so confident.

Even though she had already passed the formative period of her life, she was still affected by this family atmosphere, which she had never felt before.

By the time Namier was counting down the days until his vacation, Zhang Wei could finish Namier's homework in English without looking up the dictionary. Although her writing was still not as good as his, Zhang Wei felt that her thinking had become rigid and she could not think freely like a real child.

I've been working so hard for almost a month to finally reach preschool level. How can I put it? It's hard to say...

Why is it called preschool? Because elementary school here starts with preschool, and then goes to grades one through five, which adds up to six years. So Zhang Wei hopes to go to first grade with Namier in September, but she's not sure if that's going to happen.

So with this goal in mind, Zhang Wei worked harder, so much so that Betty often came to urge her to go to bed at night. She had no choice but to finish studying before 9 o'clock as required by her.

But Jennifer has been acting strangely lately. The homework she assigns consists of long paragraphs of complex words, many of which are professional terms that are difficult to understand even after looking them up in the dictionary. Moreover, her explanations are not very good. Zhang Wei has told her several times that they are a bit too professional, but she didn't take it seriously.

Zhang Wei was also a little depressed. She couldn't figure out her routine, but she didn't want to leave the questions blank. For some questions she really didn't know the answer to, she would ask Manny with a try-it attitude.

"Is this what you are studying now?" Manny raised his eyebrows, his gray-blue eyes full of questions.

Zhang Wei shook her head helplessly: "I haven't studied it before. Jennifer assigned it to me."

He didn't say anything else, but patiently explained to her.
