Chapter 24 First Day of School

Chapter 24 First Day of School

On the third day after the exam, Emma told Zhang Wei that she had passed the entrance test. Although she had prepared for it, she was still very happy. The only one who was unhappy was Namir. It was obvious that he didn't want to be in the same class with Zhang Wei.

Of course, Zhang Wei would not bother with the children. Emma was happy to see them play together before, although it was Zhang Wei who took the initiative every time. Of course, she also had her own purpose.

But now she has a lot of tasks to complete, so she doesn't waste time communicating with children. This state is just right for Zhang Wei.

Now the whole family knows that she likes to read in her room. At the beginning, Emma would often let her go out to play, and after she came to the room a few times, she would no longer come in to disturb her.

The night before school started, Zhang Wei suffered from insomnia, which was rare. She thought back to her previous life when she was in boarding school. At that time, her father sent her to the teacher's office, said something to the teacher, turned around and left, leaving her alone standing in the corner with an empty big schoolbag on her back, staring blankly at the parents and children coming and going in the noisy office.

The head teacher didn't notice her until all the parents had registered and taken their children to the classroom.

Life in boarding school was dull and lonely. She always felt like a soulless puppet, doing whatever the teacher told her to do. When Zhang Wei recalled her mood at that time, she could only see a blank.

She had no hobbies, no things she wanted to do, and no one she missed. She went to college in a daze. It was not until she started working and gradually had more free time and space that she slowly became more lively.

Zhang Wei thought, if she had to do it again this time, she didn’t want to play herself, she wanted to find herself and be herself.

After school, breakfast is eaten at school, so Zhang Wei didn't sleep for long and got up early as usual to memorize some words. When the time came, she heard Betty calling Namier to get up, so she started to wash up.

Emma took them to school on the first day. Manny had been riding his bike to school since he was in fifth grade, so it was just her and Namir riding the bike together. However, as soon as the bike stopped, Namir rushed to the door so fast that Emma couldn't stop him.

"Hey! Namir! You can't be so rude!"

Zhang Wei knew that he didn't want to go in with her. He looked so timid that she couldn't help but want to tease him.

Mrs. Lope greeted me at the school gate as usual, still very enthusiastic:

"Mrs. Wilson, Namiel is as strong as a calf. He's become much stronger in just one summer vacation!"

"Oh! He was so rude. I apologize!"

As they were chatting, a female teacher with freckles on her face and brown pigtails reached out and took Zhang Wei over and said:

"Is that Vera? Come in with me for breakfast!"

Zhang Wei turned around and saw Emma waving at her, then followed her in.

On the way, she introduced herself to Zhang Wei as her homeroom teacher. The name sounded a bit strange. If translated into Chinese, it means "leaf". Not sure if it was that word, Zhang Wei decided to call her Teacher Leaf.

Zhang Wei entered the class quite early. Besides Namier, there were only two little girls there. They were both white girls. One of them had big eyes and curly hair, like a doll in Zhang Wei's closet.

She was looking at Zhang Wei curiously, and then whispered to the girl with short chestnut hair next to her:

"Dora, do you think she looks like the doll my father gave me last time?"

Well, she sees others as dolls, and others see her as a doll.

The doll-haired girl rolled her eyes at her and said, "I told you, don't call me Dora. My new name is Abigail."

"Okay, Dora, you said she's the only new student?"

Although the doll's voice was not loud, Zhang Wei was sitting not far away. Zhang Wei thought she was very cute and had a kind of innocent feeling.

Dora was so angry that she put down the sandwich in her hand and said through gritted teeth, "Grace, I told you not to call me Dora!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Teacher Leaf said to her, "Dora, do you want some more fruit?"

It was obvious that Dora was very angry at this time, but Zhang Wei saw her take a deep breath and said to Teacher Leaf in a calm voice: "No, thank you."

Zhang Wei couldn't help but curl her lips when she saw this scene. The new classmates were quite interesting...

When Dora saw Zhang Wei looking over, she turned her head away without any friendly exchange.

And over there, big-eyed Grace started again: "Dora, you said she——"

At this time, Dora interrupted her quickly and said: "No, not at all. Your doll is white, and she is obviously Asian."

"But she doesn't look yellow," retorted Grace, and when Dora opened her mouth to speak she added:

"Of course, you're always right."

Then she winked at Zhang Wei lively, so cute!

When all the classmates arrived, Zhang Wei counted and found that there were only sixteen students in the class, including herself, and she was the only yellow person, or rather, the only person of color in the class.

"This is our new companion—Vera Wilson. Please welcome her!"

Teacher Ye Zi introduced Zhang Wei to the whole class. To be honest, this name was too unfamiliar to Zhang Wei. She was stunned for a few seconds before realizing that it was her who was being talked about. Then she stood up and gave a brief self-introduction.

Then everyone started the formal classes. The first class was a reading class. They were taken to a large reading room, and then there was a class of free reading time.

After entering, Zhang Wei watched everyone go to the areas they were familiar with to choose books. Just as she was about to explore it, Teacher Ye Zi introduced the layout of the books to her.

There are fairy tales, art, various subjects like science, sociology, and various classics of literature. Among them, there are more children reading stories, and there are also one or two in the science area.

Zhang Wei made up her mind soon after. She wanted to find a classic book to read, which would help improve her reading skills.

She remembered reading a translated version of The Three Musketeers in junior high school. It was quite interesting. She searched for a long time before finally finding it on the top shelf in a corner. With her height, she could barely reach it, but the books were stacked together and clamped tightly, so she couldn't get it out...

She looked around and saw no stool. Teacher Ye Zi was in the reading area far away. She simply lifted her skirt, put one foot on the bottom shelf, climbed up the shelf with one hand, and grabbed the book with the other and pulled it out. Just when she successfully grabbed the book and was about to jump down, she heard an angry question from above her head:

"What are you doing!"

Zhang Wei was so startled by the sudden voice that he almost dropped his hand. Fortunately, he reacted immediately and regained his footing. The voice continued:
