Chapter 26 Club Selection
Teacher Yezi brought Zhang Wei to the office, asked her to sit down, gave her a candy, and then asked:
"Vera, how was your day?"
Zhang Wei took the candy and thanked him: "Thank you, it's okay overall."
"Originally, I helped you choose a teacher to give you extra language lessons, but seeing how you perform in class, I realized it's not necessary. So, just choose a club class that interests you like the other kids!"
Teacher Ye Zi took out a table and listed many courses, including various musical instruments in the arts, various sports in the sports, as well as academic subjects and languages. The course lasted about an hour and a half, from 3:05 to 4:30, and you could choose up to three courses.
Zhang Wei didn't have any ideas for the moment. She looked at Teacher Ye Zi and said:
"Can I choose a class today and try it out? I'll give you the form tomorrow."
Teacher Ye Zi agreed. Zhang Wei thought for a few minutes and finally decided to experience the Spanish class.
She doesn't like learning languages very much, but it is undeniable that language is an important tool here. From a utilitarian point of view, since the courses will be offered in the second grade and learning will officially begin, it is better to adapt early.
As for what to choose, she decided to go home and listen to the Wilsons' opinions. Maybe she could also check online to see which ones would be more beneficial for applying to good universities. It is always better to make plans early.
As for her interests, Zhang Wei used to study liberal arts, but she has always been interested in botany and genetics. Relevant courses may not be offered until the higher grades, so she decided to do so for now.
Then Teacher Ye Zi took her to the door of a classroom where the class had already started. After she explained something to the teacher, Zhang Wei was allowed to go in and sit down.
There were only three students in the classroom, four in total including Zhang Wei. They all looked like first-year students. After all, Spanish was a required subject in the second grade, so there were few people.
The teacher is teaching the pronunciation of letters. Although its letters are the same as English letters, its pronunciation rules are completely different from English. The pronunciation of some letters requires the strength of the tongue to be more standard.
After one class, Zhang Wei found that as long as they were not confused with the pronunciation of English letters, it was not difficult to remember them. Some trills could be basically mastered after practicing them a few times. It seemed simpler than imagined.
After this class, Zhang Wei decided to include Spanish as one of the club courses.
After class, Zhang Wei found the driver's car at the school gate. Namier was already waiting in the car.
The car started moving, and Zhang Wei was still memorizing the pronunciation when Namier suddenly spoke:
"Dora Iverson is not an easy girl to get along with."
She looked at him to confirm that he was talking to her. This was probably the first time Namir had spoken to her on his own initiative in the past two weeks.
"So? You're going to be my friend in her place at school?"
Zhang Wei knew that although he still cared about what happened before, she wanted to remind her in a kind way, but she still wanted to tease him.
Namier's eyes widened, as if Zhang Wei had proposed some shocking conditions. He didn't know how to respond for a moment. When the car arrived at the gate, he finally said with a grunt:
"D-don't you know that my friends are all on the ice hockey team? To be friends, we should have the same interests!"
Zhang Wei deliberately spoke in a depressed tone, "Of course I didn't know. Although I know now, I also know that you really don't want to be friends with me."
Then she got out of the car with her schoolbag and ran into the gate. Namir stayed in the car awkwardly and looked at the driver. The driver gave him a helpless look.
After dinner, Zhang Wei consulted Emma about the choice of club classes.
"Don't you have any choice?" Emma asked.
"I chose Spanish, and I can choose two more. I don't have any ideas at the moment."
"You can choose another sport and a musical instrument. If you feel you have enough energy, Manny chose equestrianism, and Namier chose ice hockey. I think equestrianism is more suitable for you."
Zhang Wei had ridden a horse once before when he was on a company trip, but there was someone leading the way in front, so he went very slowly. It would be nice to be able to ride the horse and gallop on the grass.
"Sure, I think equestrianism is good too, so I'll choose equestrianism as the sport."
Emma nodded and said, "You can go to the stables with Manny for training this weekend. We've already ordered two ponies, but Namiel never wanted to go."
Zhang Wei had no objection to this kind of rich arrangement. In the end, she did not choose the violin and cello suggested by Emma. She decided that these instruments that required long-term practice would consume most of her time, so she chose the Western flute.
This sounds like a flute, should be easy to carry, and doesn't look difficult to make.
Zhang Wei spent about an hour finishing the day's homework before going to bed, even though the teacher told them to hand it in three days later.
She reviewed the day's classes. There were seven classes in total on the schedule, plus a one and a half hour club class. The workload for first-year students here was not easy.
Fortunately, I had intensive study for the previous three months, otherwise I might have been in a panic on the first day.
In this way, Zhang Wei's first-grade primary school life gradually got back on track, and she was able to discuss group assignments with Dora and Grace's small group.
After a while, she discovered that Dora had indeed read many books. Although she might not have read The Three Musketeers before, she always expressed surprising opinions whenever Zhang Wei asked questions. For example, in a sociology class, the teacher talked about the relationship between school and family:
"Family is the cornerstone of a child's growth, and school is a means to support that growth."
Dora raised her hand high, and the teacher asked her to express her opinion: "Teacher, I admit that you are partially right, but every child's situation is different. Governor Vilsack was born in an orphanage, and Edison left school at the age of 8."
The teacher was unable to refute for a moment, so Dora continued, "It seems that our own growth is the most important thing, don't you think?"
Zhang Wei thought it would be difficult for the teacher to explain the concepts of universality and particularity to first-grade students, even though Dora's cognition was beyond the scope of first grade, so she decided to help the teacher.
Seeing another student raise their hand, the bald-headed sociology teacher wiped the sweat from his brow. Although his expression was a little stiff, he tried to gently let Zhang Wei speak:
"Okay, Vera, you go first!"
"I think Dora is right, but not entirely." As soon as Zhang Wei said this, everyone's attention was focused on her, because no classmate had ever refuted Dora's point of view before, because she knew the most.
She continued:
