Chapter 35 Difficulties

Chapter 35 Difficulties

The excitement of getting the book voucher continued until she returned to New York City. She made a list of books. There was only a small bookshelf in her room, which could not hold many books, so she simply emptied half of the compartments in the cloakroom to store the books.

In addition to English books, there are also Spanish reference books, Spanish introductory readers, mathematics books such as functions, linear algebra, and space geometry, and original readings of world classics. Almost everything she can think of is listed at once.

Finally, Manny looked at her mumbling over the book list and said, "Are you going to buy all the books you need in your lifetime?"

Zhang Wei was a little confused when she saw the book list. Yeah, the coupons weren't a one-time use. Forgive her nouveau riche mentality...

In the end, she gave the list of books she had made earlier to Betty, and she would contact the supplier to have the books delivered to her home.

A week later, she had a room filled with the smell of new books, which made her even more of a homebody.

Perhaps things in the world are never as we wish. Just as she was wandering in the ocean of knowledge, she encountered a small trouble.

Teacher Ye left after Christmas.

The reason why it was so sudden was that Teacher Ye Zi met her true love during the Christmas holidays, and suddenly went to Australia to pursue her love.

The new teacher was a serious woman with short brown hair and she liked to wear dark clothes. She looked like the complete opposite of the kind Teacher Ye Zi.

Her eyes look like a cat's, and the moment she looks at you, you'll feel like your soul is being captured. In short, she is a teacher who looks very oppressive.

A parent meeting was held before the change of class teacher. After the meeting, the picky parents naturally accepted the new class teacher named Catherine.

Small animals have the most sensitive perception. In Catherine's first class, the students did not dare to act rashly. Even the phonics class, which had been the most lively before, became quiet and serious.

"Vera, read this sentence again."

Zhang Wei stood up and read a two-line sentence. She thought her pronunciation was clear and her sentences were fluent.

But Catherine corrected her subtle accent over and over again, and she was still not satisfied after reading it twice or three times. She had to repeat it at least five times. The class finally ended before Zhang Wei ran out of patience and was about to refuse to cooperate.

Zhang Wei certainly knows that her pronunciation cannot completely break away from the Chinese pronunciation habits of her previous life, but she has not lived in an all-English environment for a long time, so she is confident that she can change slowly.

Teacher Ye Zi and other teachers never criticized her for this, but since Catherine discovered this problem, Zhang Wei's "disaster" began.

She could no longer read other reference books during the phonics class. As long as she was not paying attention, Catherine would ask her to stand up and spell, and the whole class would look at her with sympathy.

Moreover, she called Emma and said she wanted to correct her pronunciation habits, which made Emma very much agree with her attentiveness and dedication.

Zhang Wei sometimes wondered if she just disliked her, but her reason was so valid: her pronunciation was indeed imperfect.

The feeling of being stared at was really annoying, and sitting there waiting for death was not her style. She endured it for a few days and found that Catherine had no intention of restraining herself. One day at noon, Zhang Wei took the initiative to go to Catherine's office.

"I want to talk to you, teacher." Zhang Wei stood in front of her desk, looked at her directly, and said calmly.

"Are you here to admit defeat?" Catherine said with a hint of contempt in her tone.

"Give up? I don't seem to have participated in any competition?" Zhang Wei argued in a puzzled tone.

She said matter-of-factly, "Your pronunciation is the worst in the class. That's a fact. I guess you lost to my training."

"If this is your excuse as a teacher to make things difficult for me, I can only accept it," Catherine's eyes changed when Zhang Wei said this.

She immediately retorted, "If you think trying my best to help you grow is being difficult, then maybe I need to have a serious talk with your parents."

"You don't have to threaten me with your parents. I can still distinguish between sincere help and deliberate harassment. Otherwise, why don't you help Nick with his grammar in every class? His grammar homework is the worst."

"Besides, I've never gotten anything below an A in any of my homework, whether it's phonics or anything else. If you spend more than half the class time every period helping a top student, I'm sure the parents won't understand, right?"

After hearing Zhang Wei's well-reasoned words, Catherine's face trembled a few times. She didn't say anything in the end. After pausing for more than ten seconds, she said angrily:

"Since you're not ashamed of not being as good as others, it means you're not suited to being here. If I were you, I definitely wouldn't like staying in a world that doesn't belong to me."

It turns out that this is another white person who thinks she is noble and wears tinted glasses. It seems that she is aware of her own origins.

Unfortunately, Zhang Wei was not afraid of her and would not leave Tifield. She said confidently:

"Then you're wrong. I've always been better than others. If you can look at it objectively, even if you disagree, I won't become worse because of you."

Then she left Catherine's office because it was difficult to convince someone who looked at others with tinted glasses. She did not intend to compromise with Catherine, and Catherine would not easily change her opinion.

I have to say that this conversation did have some effect. Not only did she no longer call on her individually in the phonics class, but she also didn't call on her in other classes. In addition, her daily attitude towards her was rather cold.

Zhang Wei didn't care much. If Catherine didn't give her an objective evaluation of her grades even though she got A's on every assignment, she wouldn't mind filing a complaint with the school.

At the end of the semester, the school would collect teacher reviews from students, and the results would be reported directly to the school board, so she wasn't afraid of Catherine giving her a hard time or giving her the cold shoulder. It wouldn't work for a fake child like her, and she even preferred this state.

"Why doesn't Catherine like you?" Grace realized it later and saw that when breakfast was being distributed, Catherine put the milk on Zhang Wei's table without saying a word.

When she distributes milk to other students, she always asks, "Do you need anything else?"

"Maybe she doesn't like smart kids," Zhang Wei replied with a smile.

"Yes, Vera is right, I don't think she likes me either," Dora whispered with a straw in her mouth.

Zhang Wei did not correct her. She felt that Catherine liked Dora very much. She now liked to let Dora perform in class, of course not the same way she performed to Zhang Wei before.

She was asked to demonstrate and to give praise, but her expression was not friendly, so Dora did not feel her love and appreciation. She just felt that Catherine had changed people to make things difficult for her, and this unlucky person was herself.

So every time Dora stood up with a serious expression, Catherine probably only saw her serious attitude towards asking questions, and didn't realize that the girl didn't appreciate it.

"So, does she like me more?" Grace said, feeling distressed. "It seems like this isn't a good thing."
