Chapter 5: Traveling Alone
"Go, where else can that bitch run? Keep an eye on the noon train, she won't be able to escape!"
When Chen Jiumei uttered the last few words, one could feel the hatred in his mouth.
After taking a walk around the town, Zhang Wei felt that he couldn't stay there for long. The place was too small, and Chen Jiumei had worked here before.
She easily found the only bus stop in the town because there was no one on the road except for a lot of people carrying large and small bags, chickens, ducks and fish under a telephone pole. It was obvious that they were going to the market.
The car hadn't arrived yet, and Zhang Wei didn't approach. She looked at the people carefully. She had to find a way to get someone to take her to the car, otherwise, a little girl like her might not be able to leave...
Looking at the minibus wobbling towards her not far away, Zhang Wei decided to try her fishing skills.
She took out five dollars from her backpack. She had no choice but to take the five dollars she didn't take. This time, she was at a huge loss...
As soon as the minibus stopped, Zhang Wei quickly jumped on the bus. As the conductor called out to her, he handed her five yuan, then sat in the corner without moving, leaving the rest to fate.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Which of your kids gave me five dollars? The adults don't even watch over me!"
No one said anything for a moment, and Zhang Wei's heart began to tighten. Fortunately, the woman who came up behind him immediately said, "Me! My family!"
Zhang Wei breathed a sigh of relief when he heard someone respond. It seemed that there were always people who tried to take advantage of others.
"Then she'll have to buy a full ticket if she takes up a seat. Two seats for one dollar, and I'll give you four dollars."
"Okay, okay!" The woman went to take the money without even putting down her burden. She immediately smiled and wondered where this silly child came from.
The silly boy Zhang Wei sat in the corner of the second to last row. The woman was carrying a load and didn't dare to sit too far away from the load, so she was quite far away from Zhang Wei. Soon the minibus was packed with people and all kinds of living things. There was some chaos and the smell was very unpleasant.
What Zhang Wei didn't know was that as the bus started, Chen Jiumei and her group immediately came over from the corner of the street. They ran a few steps and when they saw that they couldn't catch up, they stopped and prepared to wait for the next bus.
Zhang Wei, feeling dizzy from the ride, got off the bus with everyone else. When she arrived at the county town called Ningping, she realized that her clothes were in a mess and she was barefoot, which was really a bit out of place.
Although she was used to walking barefoot and the skin on her feet was hard, she still had to buy a pair of shoes.
When shopping, Zhang Wei changed her strategy and told the owner that the adult not far away was her elder. She successfully bought shoes, a set of clothes, and got her hair cut, which cost her nearly half of the money. Zhang Wei regretted not taking enough money before.
After finding a public toilet and changing, I looked no different from other kids on the street.
Zhang Wei did not hesitate for too long about what to do next. Her parents divorced when she was born, and her father became a nouveau riche and remarried, so she went to boarding school. She was not treated too badly financially, at least she was raised, but other than that, there was nothing else.
So, regardless of whether these two worlds are the same, Zhang Wei has no intention of going back to look for her former relatives. In her previous life, she worked in a public institution in charge of civil affairs. She knew that the welfare homes in big cities were still very formal, and children could go to school and would be supported until they were eighteen years old. So her current goal was to go to a nearby big city and send herself to an welfare home.
There are still a lot of people in the county town, and Zhang Wei has found a way to avoid attracting attention. That is to find people who are shopping with their children and follow them. This way he feels much more at ease.
To her surprise, the county town actually had a train station. Only one train stopped there, and it only departed every two days. Zhang Wei looked at the destinations along the way. Although it wouldn't reach her previous destination, City S, it would reach the larger city of City A.
And there was only one class today, arriving at noon. Zhang Wei went to the place where her height was measured and compared herself to the others. She was less than 1.2 meters tall, so it seemed she had a chance of getting in.
The most important step is to get on the train, and there shouldn't be any problems once you're on.
She had heard of ticket evasion before, but she didn't know how those people did it. After all, she had never experienced it, so she could only take it one step at a time.
The station was not very big and was crowded with people carrying large and small bags. There was only half an hour left before the departure time. Zhang Wei bought a big bag of steamed buns and a bottle of water, filling her simple backpack. As usual, she stood next to the passenger with the child and played a clapping game with the little fat boy.
Suddenly, a huge force came from the side, and she, the fat boy, and the people around them were pushed down, which immediately triggered a burst of complaints and curses.
Zhang Wei fell to the ground and was almost stepped on. She got up and looked at the culprit, but the moment she saw him, she immediately squatted back down, not caring whether she would be stepped on.
It turned out that Chen Jiumei and her group came here to block Qin Yuan.
In fact, Zhang Wei didn't need to worry too much. Not to mention that Chen Jiumei and the others had no idea that she had run away, Zhang Wei had short hair cut to her ears and dressed neatly. She was very different from the mute in the village with messy hair, dirty clothes, and running around everywhere.
There were already people at the gate over there, and ticket checking was about to begin. Zhang Wei was unsure, as she not only had to hide from them but also had to sneak in. The task was a bit arduous.
But the next moment, Zhang Wei realized that her worries were unnecessary. The moment the gate opened, passengers rushed in in a swarm. There was no queue at all. There were not many people who honestly checked their tickets. Many people simply climbed over the one-meter-high railing. It was a complete chaos.
Zhang Wei was thin and small, and she easily squeezed through the gap in the railing. Unfortunately, her backpack was too big for her to get through. Finally, she threw the backpack over and immediately squeezed out of the railing, dragging the backpack and running towards the train, without having time to care about Chen Jiumei and the others.
The situation was not much better when getting on the train. The windows were full of people. The people sitting inside were quite enthusiastic. One of them came up to help pull the luggage up. Zhang Wei squeezed in, stretched out his hands, and was lifted onto the train.
After getting on the bus, she walked straight inside and finally reached the door of the sleeper berth. No one stopped her, so she found a window seat outside the berth and sat down.
As soon as she looked out the window, she saw another familiar face - Qin Yuan. It turned out that she had not left yet.
But her current outfit was completely different from before. She was wearing a silk shirt, a suit jacket and a tight skirt. She was holding the arm of a man wearing glasses, smiling brightly, and walking towards the train from another less crowded door.
Zhang Wei felt that this should be Qin Yuan's true appearance, it was a pity that she had been trapped in the mountains for so many years.
She looked at Qin Yuan, and suddenly felt her steps pause, her expression immediately became unnatural, but she continued to move forward in a moment, but her speed seemed to have increased.
Zhang Wei saw Chen Jiumei and her group not far away. It seemed that Qin Yuan was in trouble...
