Chapter 6: Danger Again
After a while, Qin Yuan got on the train. The carriage she wanted to go to was still in front. Zhang Wei only saw her back, but Chen Jiumei and the others were stopped outside the door. Zhang Wei buried his face and lay on the small table, afraid that Chen Jiumei and the others would break in.
They did have this idea, but there were not many people getting on the train in front of them. It was obviously a soft sleeper car. Someone was blocking the door to check tickets. Chen Jiumei and the others were naturally blocked because they didn't have tickets. Zhang Wei could still hear him shouting in frustration:
"Let me in! I want to go in and find someone."
“You can’t enter without a ticket!”
"If someone runs away, you're responsible, right? I'm warning you again, don't meddle in other people's business!"
"If you keep doing this, I'll call the train police. Ah—someone's evading the fare by breaking through the gate!"
When Zhang Wei heard the flight attendant's shouts, he knew that these people were about to break in.
She pricked up her ears to listen, but there seemed to be no sound. Then she raised her head and looked outside. It turned out that Chen Jiumei and the other two were being pushed out by four or five policemen, and they were looking towards the carriage with cursing eyes.
Soon the train started moving. The hard sleeper compartment was quite safe, except for the couple in the berth next to her who seemed to be sitting there without moving. When asked which compartment she was from, Zhang Wei just said that her parents had no seats and asked her to come and sit over.
Now the people around her were not so curious about her anymore. It was not a big deal for a child to come and use the seat, so everyone turned a blind eye.
At night, a conductor came to check tickets, but Zhang Wei continued to lie down and pretend to be asleep. Her height was not high enough to buy a ticket, and no one paid any attention to her along the way. She stayed on the train for two days, and she ate all the steamed buns and raw sweet potatoes. Finally, she arrived at her final destination - City A.
Before getting off the bus, she filled a bottle of tap water with an empty bottle. She tried to save as much as possible. She only had 30 yuan on her, and she had to find a place to eat before she spent it all.
After exiting the train station and seeing the busy streets and tall buildings, Zhang Wei finally felt like he had returned to the familiar world. Although it was not as modern as it was twenty years later, he had finally returned to a civilized world.
The welfare home in this place is not that easy to find, but the police station is definitely easy to find. Zhang Wei saw a bus stop not far away and was about to walk over when he was suddenly picked up!
A towel was about to cover her face. Zhang Wei immediately realized the danger and turned her head to cover the back of her head. She immediately shouted:
"Help! Help! The human traffickers are arresting people!"
The people around him were immediately attracted by the sight, but the trafficker said calmly, "I'm sorry, the child was having a tantrum and I didn't buy her any candy."
Zhang Wei immediately bit his neck hard. The human trafficker screamed in pain and was about to throw her to the ground. At this time, Zhang Wei wrapped her hands tightly around her neck, with a mouth full of blood, but still did not let go.
The noise finally attracted everyone around. The trafficker finally grabbed Zhang Wei and threw him to the ground. He covered his still bleeding neck, grimacing in pain while pretending to be helpless.
"I am a stubborn child. I won't bite my dad even if I don't have candy."
At this time, the people around believed it, and someone said:
"This child needs discipline. Go to the hospital first!"
"Yeah, I just dote on my child too much!"
The trafficker showed a hint of pride in his eyes and was about to reach out to pull Zhang Wei.
Zhang Wei was choked by the blood and felt retching. He simply couldn't hold it in and vomited all over the floor with a loud "splash".
The onlookers immediately covered their noses and backed away. Zhang Wei then said, "He's not my father. I'm going to call the police. He's a human trafficker!"
The trafficker didn't give up and continued to come over to grab her. He tried his best to control his expression but still showed a fierce look: "You are too naughty. Let me show you how your father will deal with you!"
"Help! There are human traffickers! Help! Call the police!"
Zhang Wei shouted and dodged, running to a crowded place with the filth she accidentally vomited on her body. Those people no longer dared to help catch her and simply retreated away.
At this time, the staff at the train station finally realized that something was wrong. A policeman came out of the station, and Zhang Wei ran directly towards the train station. However, the human trafficker ran faster. He turned around and ran across the street in two or three steps, and disappeared into the alley.
Zhang Wei stopped when he saw the police approaching him. His stomach churned and he vomited all over the floor at the police.
She had just been on the train for two days and had done some strenuous exercise. Now her stomach was empty and her feet were a little unstable. She could only support her knees with her hands and bend over to slow down.
"Whose child is this? Where are the adults?" a young policeman asked as he pulled her away from the pool of vomit in front of them.
At this point, the people who had been there also realized that the man was indeed a human trafficker, and they all started explaining to the police.
Seeing that Zhang Wei's lips were pale, she looked weak and pitiful, unable to even stand steadily, the young policeman picked her up.
If Zhang Wei was full of energy, she would definitely feel embarrassed, after all, she was an adult at heart. But she was really uncomfortable now. The vomiting just now seemed to have awakened all the fatigue of the past few days. In addition, she felt safe after meeting the police, so she leaned on the young policeman's shoulder and fell asleep.
Zhang Wei was dreaming. One moment she was sitting in the office sorting out materials, listening to her flatterer Lu talking behind her back. The next moment she was Chen Lai Di, running barefoot on the mountain, with Old Lady Chen chasing after him with a stick...
"I'm malnourished. I ate raw food and have stomach discomfort. I need a bottle of nutrient solution first!"
Slowly, other voices entered her mind. She slowly opened her eyes and saw a nurse holding her hand and inserting an needle into the back of her hand. She was about to shrink back reflexively when she was held down firmly and the needle tip slowly pushed into the blood vessel.
Zhang Wei had regained consciousness by this time, and sighed inwardly: Alas, there's no going back...
After fixing the needle, the nurse looked at Zhang Wei, who had opened her eyes but remained quiet, and gently touched her face, saying with pity:
"Oh, why are you so good!"
"Eat!" She took out a lollipop from her pocket, peeled it and put it to Zhang Wei's mouth. Zhang Wei appreciated her kindness and opened his mouth to put it in.
"Thank you, sister," she said vaguely.
The sweetness flowed down the tongue into the throat, as if washing away the previous bloody taste.
Zhang Wei regretted losing her vigilance after getting off the train. Everything went so smoothly on the train that she forgot her current living conditions. It seemed that she could only wait for the police's arrangements next. The current social security was not comparable to that of twenty years later. If she fell into the hands of human traffickers again, all her efforts would be in vain.
After the nurse left, two policemen came over. The younger one was the one who had picked her up earlier. His last name was Hou. He took out a notebook and started questioning her:
"May I have your name?"
Zhang Wei
"How old are you?"
"Six years old"
"Where are your parents?"
Zhang Wei shook his head.
"Where is your home?"
Zhang Wei shook his head.
"Is the man who ran away your father?"
Zhang Wei shook his head.
The two policemen looked at each other, not knowing how to ask next.
