Chapter 17 Lemon-flavored Hard Candy

Chapter 17 Lemon-flavored Hard Candy

As soon as Jiang Wan saw Zhou Chong, a smile bloomed on her slightly upturned lips.

However, in the next second, Zhou Chong suddenly turned his face away.

Um?

What happened?

Wasn't he looking at her just now?

Jiang Wan glanced around. Sure enough, there was no one else at the back door of the classroom. He couldn't possibly be looking at thin air.

That tsundere! He got caught secretly watching her, but now he doesn't want to admit it, huh?

Jiang Wan ran over with a grin, "Zhou Chong!"

Zhou Chonggang turned around and heard Jiang Wan call him, so he instinctively turned his head back.

She was carrying a thick stack of English newspapers and ran quickly toward me. The top few newspapers were blown up by the wind and almost fell to the ground.

Without a second thought, he stood up, strode over to her, and caught the few shaky newspapers.

"Be careful, what's the rush?"

Seeing Zhou Chong's slightly furrowed brows, Jiang Wan frowned and pretended to be aggrieved, "The English newspaper is so heavy, I can hardly carry it anymore, can you help me carry it?"

The girl's voice was sweet and clear, with a touch of irresistible coquettishness.

Zhou Chong naturally took the newspaper from her hand, and when he looked up, he glanced towards the classroom door.

The boy was unwrapping a candy and popping it into his mouth as he walked toward Class 2 next door.

Why didn't you ask him to bring it in for you?

Even he himself didn't realize that when he opened his mouth, his tone was inexplicably awkward.

Jiang Wan was startled and turned around following Zhou Chong's gaze, barely catching a glimpse of Qi Ming's receding figure.

“He’s from another class, how can we let an outsider into our classroom?” Jiang Wan answered matter-of-factly.

Zhou Chong pursed his lips, withdrew his gaze, and fell on the fair and pinkish soft flesh behind Jiang Wan's ear.

The word "outsider" is well chosen.

Remembering Zhou Chong's gaze when she entered, Jiang Wan reacted a beat late, "You saw everything just now?"

Zhou Chong lowered his eyes and tapped the English newspaper in his hand. "Should we distribute it?"

"Yes." Jiang Wan nodded, and seeing Zhou Chong turn to leave, she quickly grabbed his sleeve, "Don't change the subject."

"Class is about to start." Zhou Chong tilted his head slightly, his gaze pointing to the wall clock. "If we don't hurry up and distribute them, we'll be too late."

"Okay." Jiang Wan glanced at the time, took a stack of papers from Zhou Chong's hand, and turned to walk towards the seats of the two groups next to her.

As I passed Jiang Shengming and Sun Qianyu, I casually placed some on their table, saying, "Please distribute these to them."

Sun Qianyu picked up a stack of newspapers, stood up, and nudged Jiang Wan's arm. "The one who walked back with you outside just now, was that Qi Ming from Class 13?"

As Jiang Wan handed out newspapers, she glanced back at her and asked, "Yes, what's wrong? Do you know her?"

“Qi Ming, the sports specialist from Class 13, who doesn’t know him?” Sun Qianyu winked at her. “A sunny and cheerful handsome guy, he’s very popular at school.”

Jiang Wan was puzzled by her words. "Really?"

“Yes.” Sun Qianyu gently punched her shoulder. “Don’t tell me you don’t know, you’re pretending.”

Jiang Wan pursed her lips, "I really don't know."

Just kidding, she's only just managed to get to know all her classmates. As for so-and-so from another class, how would she know if they're popular or not?

If Qi Ming hadn't helped her when she couldn't find the classroom last time, she would have had no idea who this person was.

Sun Qianyu looked suspicious. "Then why did you walk back with him, chatting and laughing? Class 13 isn't even on this floor. I thought he specially brought you back."

"Which eye of yours saw me laughing and joking with him?" Jiang Wan was speechless.

“I saw it with both eyes.” Sun Qianyu raised her hand and pointed to her eyes. “Just now outside the classroom, you smiled at him and gave him candy. Not only did I see it, but Jiang Shengming saw it too, and even Zhou Chong glanced at the door.”

Jiang Wan immediately grasped the key point, "Alright, hurry up and post it. There's nothing between him and me, don't talk nonsense."

“I know.” Sun Qianyu handed out two newspapers to the table next to her, then turned to Jiang Wan and whispered in Zhou Chong’s ear, “You’re interested in that guy.”

Jiang Wan subconsciously looked up. Zhou Chong was walking in the other aisle. He was tall and had long legs. His steps were steady. He was holding two English newspapers with his slender fingers and neatly placed them on the desk next to him.

The light newspaper seemed to have weight in his hands.

“You’re quite different from Qi Ming.” Sun Qianyu clicked her tongue lightly. “It seems you still prefer the aloof, god-like type.”

Jiang Wan snapped out of her daze and pushed Sun Qianyu forward, "Send it quickly!"

The four of them handed out newspapers together, which made their work much faster. Before the bell rang for class, Jiang Wan had already returned to her seat.

Zhou Chong returned around the same time as her.

Jiang Wan found the books she would need for the next class, glanced at Zhou Chong who remained unmoved beside her, and deliberately cleared her throat.

"Cough cough."

Zhou Chong looked over and asked her with his eyes what was wrong.

Jiang Wan took the opportunity to lean closer and said, "The person at the door just now was named Qi Ming. He was my classmate in the first year of high school."

Zhou Chong was slightly taken aback, then looked at her without reacting.

“I don’t know him well. Just now, Teacher Yang asked me to go to the office to get the English newspaper, and I ran into him. He said he was going to the fourth floor to find someone, so he helped me carry some back.”

Seeing that Zhou Chong's expression didn't change, Jiang Wan continued, "Well, I thought he had helped me, so I should thank him to avoid any misunderstandings. I happened to have a box of throat lozenges with me, so I gave him two."

Hearing this, Zhou Chong finally reacted, "What do you mean you can't explain it?"

“Well…” Jiang Wan paused for a moment, “To avoid misunderstandings, I have a very good relationship with him. We give and take things one way or another, so as not to owe him any favors.”

"Is it like you giving me milk to thank me for helping you with your homework?"

Zhou Chong's sudden remark startled Jiang Wan.

"No, of course it's different," Jiang Wan quickly denied. "We're deskmates."

"What's wrong with my deskmate?" Zhou Chong raised an eyebrow.

"Being deskmates makes all the difference."

"How are they different?"

Jiang Wan thought for a moment, then abandoned her high-sounding rhetoric and took out a throat lozenge from her pocket.

"For example, even if you don't help me, I'll still give you a throat lozenge because your throat was a little sore when you were reading aloud in the morning."

"Whether you help me or not, I will care about you. Similarly, you won't refuse to help me just because there's no reward or benefit."

"Being deskmates means there's no need to be so formal."

Jiang Wan rambled on and on, giving examples and summarizing, believing her answer to be comprehensive.

Unexpectedly, Zhou Chong focused on the wrong thing.

“Who said I don’t want anything in return?” Zhou Chongchao spread his hands. “You said you couldn’t carry the English newspaper, so I carried it for you and even gave you two candies.”

“No…” Jiang Wan forced a smile, “Sun Qianyu and Jiang Shengming also helped send it just now.”

Zhou Chong's expression remained unchanged. "They are classmates, I am just a deskmate, it's different."

"I... I can't argue with you." Jiang Wan pursed her lips, poured two candies from the candy box, and placed them in Zhou Chong's hand. "Is your throat still a little sore?"

Zhou Chong was taken aback. "Hmm."

Then, he unwrapped a piece of candy and popped it into his mouth.

"Hey, class is about to start, and you're still eating candy," Jiang Wan whispered to him.

"It's okay, I don't talk in class anyway."

Jiang Wan shrugged. "True."

The class bell rang, and Jiang Wan turned to look at the podium, sitting down properly.

Zhou Chong smacked his lips on the hard candy.

Lemon flavored.
