Chapter 18 Bet
Since entering the senior year of high school, there have been constant exams, both big and small.
Wednesday evening study sessions are the fixed time for the weekly math test.
The weekly tests are short and cover a small range of topics. They are mainly designed to check the material reviewed in the past week or two, focusing on consolidation rather than testing. They are essentially mini-quizzes.
After Jiang Wan returned to her senior year of high school, she attended school for exactly one week.
Compared to her initial helplessness on the first day, she is now much more adept at handling things.
Fortunately, she had a solid foundation from high school, and in her previous life she was admitted to one of the top two universities in the country. Much of the knowledge seemed to be engraved in her mind.
For example, some mnemonic devices can be memorized reflexively after hearing them twice.
After a week of intensive review, she has gradually adapted to the pace of senior high school students and is keeping up with the current review progress.
Although, according to the current timeline, the first round of review is nearing its end and she hasn't had time to start reviewing from the beginning, she has no problem dealing with the upcoming weekly test.
Before evening self-study began, the homeroom teacher organized the students to move the desks and chairs and arrange them into single desks for each student, which would be used temporarily as assignments for the weekly test.
A narrow passageway now exists between Jiang Wan and Zhou Chong.
Before the exam even started, blank scratch paper was handed out. After writing her class and name in the upper left corner, Jiang Wan suddenly felt a strange sense of confidence.
In her previous life, she was an actuary with an excellent mathematical foundation. Even if she couldn't remember some high school math concepts, she could still solve them using advanced calculus from university level.
A mere weekly quiz is nothing to worry about.
Jiang Wan twirled the carbon pen in her hand, tilted her head to look at Zhou Chong next to her, and said, "How about we make a bet on this week's math test?"
Zhou Chong raised an eyebrow. "What kind of bet?"
"Let's bet on who gets the higher score," Jiang Wan raised an eyebrow, her expression a mix of provocation and teasing. "Whoever loses has to grant the other's request, how about it?"
Zhou Chong only thought for a second before agreeing, "Okay."
"You didn't even ask what I would ask you to do if you lost?" Jiang Wan was slightly surprised by his decisiveness. "What if I asked you to kill or commit arson?"
Zhou Chong chuckled softly, "Can you?"
Jiang Wan's eyes darted around, and she honestly replied, "No."
"That's settled then, and besides..."
Zhou Chong abruptly stopped mid-sentence.
"Besides what?" Jiang Wan asked curiously, then noticed his silent expression and immediately realized, "Oh, you mean I might not win, right?"
Zhou Chong pursed his lips and remained silent.
"Hmph, I'm sure I'll beat you, I'm going to get 150!" Jiang Wan's competitive spirit was successfully ignited.
As she said this, her voice inadvertently became uncontrollable, and as soon as she finished speaking, the proctor on the podium tapped the blackboard.
"Students in the back, please stop talking. We're starting to hand out the papers."
Jiang Wan immediately shrank her neck, lowered her head, turned around, and stared obediently at the table.
As the papers were passed around, Zhang Chi, who sat in the seat in front of him, turned around and quietly gave Jiang Wan a thumbs up, saying, "Awesome."
Jiang Wan took the test paper, glared at him, ignored him, picked up her pen and first wrote her class and name inside the binding line, then glanced through the entire test paper.
As soon as the exam bell rang, she immediately checked the answer to the first multiple-choice question.
Zhou Chong turned his head slightly, glanced at Jiang Wan who was writing furiously out of the corner of his eye, and a smile appeared on his lips.
This is the Jiang Wan he knows.
Proud, bright, competitive, and loves to compete with him.
But my little princess, do you know?
It's not that I think you can't beat me; I just won't refuse any of your requests.
-
The weekly quizzes were graded very quickly.
The senior high school math teachers are incredibly capable. The exams just finished on Wednesday night, and the math teacher showed up with the test papers before the math class on Thursday afternoon.
"Come on, class representative, help me hand out the weekly test papers."
The math class representative was a girl who wore glasses and was named Shi Leyao. She looked very gentle and quiet.
Jiang Wan was eager to know the results. As soon as Shi Leyao stepped down from the podium with the test paper in her hand, she couldn't wait to go up to her.
"Shi Leyao, let me help you distribute the test papers."
Shi Leyao paused for a moment, pushed up her glasses, and slowly said, "Okay, thank you, Jiang Wan."
The proud little princess was well-known, and aside from doing chores for her teacher, it was truly unprecedented for her to volunteer to distribute exam papers.
"You're welcome." Jiang Wan smiled at her and took half of the test paper from her hand. "We're all classmates."
Shi Leyao was stunned once again.
Jiang Wan doesn't seem to be as unapproachable as others say.
Even a princess, high above all others, would step down from her carriage and pick flowers with the flower pickers by the roadside.
Shi Leyao smiled happily and said, "Mm."
Jiang Wan was also taken aback. She didn't have a deep impression of Shi Leyao before, only knowing that she was a diligent and down-to-earth good girl.
Although her grades weren't outstanding and she wasn't a naturally gifted student, she had a very serious and hardworking attitude towards learning. Her class notes were extensive yet neat, which made her very popular with her teachers.
This is why, although Zhou Chong and Jiang Wan both excelled in math, Shi Leyao was chosen as the math class representative.
In my memory, Shi Leyao was always sitting in her seat doing problems, half of her face was covered by thick stacks of books and exercise books, while the other half was hidden behind her glasses.
Therefore, Jiang Wan's memory of her appearance was actually quite vague.
But just now, when Shi Leyao smiled at her, she realized that Shi Leyao was actually very beautiful, with delicate, arched eyebrows, pretty features, and a gentle smile.
The distance between people can be subtle and sudden; a smile can sometimes bring them closer together through some kind of magnetic attraction.
"You look beautiful when you smile." Jiang Wan didn't hold back her praise.
"Th...thank you." Shi Leyao blushed and lowered her head shyly. "Then I'll go hand out the test papers over there."
"Okay." Jiang Wan smiled and nodded at her, then walked towards the back of the classroom with the stack of test papers in her hand.
I had just posted two pictures when a tall shadow suddenly loomed over my eyes.
She looked up and saw that Zhou Chong had taken most of the stack of papers from her.
Zhou Chong didn't say anything. He glanced at the name on the test paper, walked past her with a natural expression, and placed the test paper on the desk to his right.
Jiang Wan turned her head and looked at Zhou Chong's straight back as he walked forward, and slowly curved the corners of her mouth into a smile.
