Chapter 7 Sweetness

Chapter 7 Sweetness

The next day, when Jiang Wan arrived at the classroom, several classmates were helping Jiang Shengming distribute the test papers.

The fluttering white papers swayed, drifted, and fell in the air, like the heavy snowfall that the weather forecast had predicted but hadn't yet arrived.

Lincheng is a typical southern city where it rarely snows in winter.

But this winter is very cold. When I woke up this morning, I heard the weather forecast on the TV in the living room, saying that there might be a heavy snowfall this winter.

Jiang Wan doesn't have a strong memory of that winter. Her memories of the dull and arduous senior year of high school are filled with doing problems and taking exams. She can't really remember whether there was a heavy snowfall or not.

But now, looking at the test papers fluttering all over the classroom, she felt, for the first time ever, that she had seen a snowfall in advance.

Walking through the snowflakes to her seat, she found several test papers already on her desk, along with a total score sheet and ranking chart.

I picked one up at random and found it was a monthly exam paper from December.

Jiang Wan raised an eyebrow.

No, it's only been a few days into December, and the monthly exams have already been over?

When did this happen?

Just then, Sun Qianyu strolled over with her schoolbag on her back, glanced at the stacks of test papers on the table, and said, "Wow, the teachers are so fast. The exam just finished on Tuesday, and the results are out so soon."

After saying that, she lowered her eyebrows, sighed deeply, moved two steps closer to Jiang Wan's chair, and sat down in her own seat. "Even the overall ranking list is out now. Old Fan is really inhuman!"

Jiang Wan pursed her lips and sat down in her seat. "They're definitely not human."

Tomorrow is the weekend, but they insist on handing out the test papers on Friday. The teachers are definitely doing this on purpose; they're deliberately trying to ruin the weekend for everyone.

Jiang Wan was still shaking her head and sighing when Sun Qianyu leaned closer and said, "Hey, my little princess who's a top student, you did so well on the exam, why are you sighing?"

“I…” Jiang Wan paused for a moment, then flipped out the overall ranking list that was underneath, glanced at it casually, and easily saw her name.

He ranked second, with a total score of 703, second in his class and second in his grade.

Wow, that's amazing!

Jiang Wan was speechless for a moment.

But at the same time, she knew very well that this high score and ranking were achieved by Jiang Wan, who was only seventeen years old.

It has nothing to do with Jiang Wan, who is 28 years old.

If she were to take the exam now, she'd be lucky to get 603 points.

Thinking of this, Jiang Wan couldn't help but let out a long sigh.

"No, what are you sighing about?" Sun Qianyu was confused and insisted on coming closer to look. "Is the ranking list you have different from the one I have?"

After just one glance, Sun Qianyu poked the ranking list twice with her index finger, her tone quite speechless, "Look at that, second in the grade, a stable performance, there's absolutely no problem!"

Jiang Wan tilted her head and silently glanced at her.

This is a very big problem, okay?

But I can't explain it to you clearly.

Just as Sun Qianyu was about to swear, Jiang Wan blinked and immediately went along with her words.

"The problem is... secondly, who wants to be second best forever?"

Zhou Chong, who had just walked to his seat, paused upon hearing this, glanced at Jiang Wan, and then picked up the ranking list on his desk.

His name was listed in the first line, right above Jiang Wan's.

Zhou Chong scored 712 points, ranking first in his class and first in his grade.

Jiang Wan scored 703 points, ranking second in her class and second in her grade.

Not just this monthly exam, but in almost every previous exam, his and Jiang Wan's rankings were like this.

They were close together, one above the other.

Sun Qianyu in the front row was still chattering, "Hey, Wanwan, I understand you, but that's Zhou Chong, you..."

Before she could finish speaking, the morning reading bell rang in the classroom.

The two were still huddled together, talking about something, but Zhou Chong couldn't hear them.

Zhou Chong put away the test papers on the table, took out his English book, and began to memorize vocabulary.

-

After the morning reading session, Jiang Wan lay on the table, flipping through her monthly exam papers one by one.

He did very well in every subject, made very few mistakes, and his face was covered with red checkmarks.

But the problem is that she doesn't even understand how she got some of the questions right now.

Just as she was racking her brains, a can of Nescafé coffee suddenly appeared in front of her.

Her gaze slowly rose, revealing a pair of slender fingers with distinct knuckles, loosely gripping the can. The pale fingertips rested against the edge of the aluminum can, gently placing the coffee can firmly beside her hand.

Jiang Wan jolted awake, immediately straightened up, and looked up, predictably yet unexpectedly seeing Zhou Chong's face.

Upon seeing that small, bony, slender finger joint, she recognized it as Zhou Chong's hand.

But she really didn't expect that Zhou Chong would take the initiative to give her a can of coffee.

Jiang Wan pointed to the can of coffee on the table, looked up at him, and asked, "This is... for me?"

Zhou Chong pursed his lips and said, "Mm."

Jiang Wan was stunned. Before she could figure out why, Sun Qianyu started yelling again.

"Zhou Chong, you're not here to show off in front of Wanwan on purpose, are you?" Sun Qianyu pouted. "Being number one for ten thousand years is nothing special."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wan was shocked and immediately covered her mouth, saying, "Don't talk nonsense!"

Zhou Chong lowered his head slightly and said in a calm voice, "No."

He paused, then looked back at the can of coffee, his expression inexplicably unnatural. "I saw you drinking this all day yesterday."

After saying that, he turned around and went back to his seat without explaining further.

Jiang Wan was stunned for a long time, and unconsciously loosened her grip on Sun Qianyu's hand.

Does Zhou Chong mean that he noticed she drank several cans of Nescafé yesterday and assumed she liked it, so...?

Did you buy it for her on purpose?

Jiang Wan felt that her logical reasoning ability should be fine, but when faced with this classmate Xiao Zhou, whom she didn't remember very well, she couldn't figure out his intentions.

Given Zhou Chong's cold and aloof personality, he shouldn't be capable of doing such a thing...

At this moment, Sun Qianyu, whose mouth was now free, leaned over again, picked up the can of coffee and looked it over. "What does this mean? You gave him a bottle of Liziyuan coffee yesterday, so he's giving you a can of Nestlé in return?"

After hearing what she said, Jiang Wan instantly understood.

It turns out that he didn't want to owe her a favor that she had given so casually, so he reciprocated by giving her gifts in return.

This is indeed in line with Zhou Chong's consistent style.

Jiang Wan sighed silently, took the can of coffee back from Sun Qianyu, hooked the aluminum ring, pulled it open with a "snap," and took a sip.

In any case, the fact that he discovered she had been drinking coffee all day yesterday already says something.

At the very least, he was paying attention to her yesterday, right?

Jiang Wan sipped her coffee, a slight smile playing on her lips.

How much sugar is actually in this Nestlé canned coffee?

Why does it taste so sweet?
