Chapter 120 Post-Wedding Extra: Baby (Part 1)
The black Maybach sped along.
As Zhou Chong drove, he would occasionally glance at Jiang Wan in the passenger seat out of the corner of his eye.
Jiang Wan lowered her head slightly, her right hand unconsciously resting on her lower abdomen.
...Morning nausea?
Is she really pregnant?
Although her family had mentioned having children to her recently, she was already mentally prepared, so she didn't take any precautions with Zhou Chong.
But if she really was pregnant, Jiang Wan felt a strange sense of disorientation.
Not long ago, she was still in high school wearing her school uniform. She had just returned and hadn't been adapting to adult life for long before she was about to face a new identity change.
Being a mother.
Life's challenges truly come one after another.
Thinking of this, Jiang Wan sighed softly.
Zhou Chong keenly noticed it.
He held the steering wheel with one hand, looking straight ahead, and reached out with the other hand to gently grasp Jiang Wan's hand. "Don't be nervous."
The palm that was originally warm and large now felt somewhat cold as it enveloped her hand.
Jiang Wan grasped it with her hand, pressing her palm against Zhou Chong's, and could clearly feel the slight dampness of sweat on his palm.
She looked up at the man in the driver's seat, who was focused on driving.
His eyes were fixed straight ahead, motionless, his fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly, the veins on the back of his hands faintly visible, and his taut jawline sharply defined.
He was the one who was clearly nervous.
Jiang Wan chuckled and tickled his palm. "You are the one who's nervous. Don't be nervous."
Zhou Chong was taken aback and quickly turned his head to look at her.
Jiang Wan let go of his hand, pushed it back, and placed it on the steering wheel. "Drive carefully, I'm not nervous."
Zhou Chong curled his fingers, put them on the steering wheel, gripped it firmly with both hands, and continued driving steadily.
-
The hospital's emergency room building.
"I'm sorry, routine pregnancy tests are not performed in the gynecology emergency room tonight." The nurse on duty smiled politely. "Please come back tomorrow morning to register for an outpatient appointment."
Zhou Chong said with a stern face, "But my wife just threw up, and it was quite serious."
"Well..." the on-duty nurse glanced at the computer, "how about we book an emergency appointment with a gastroenterologist?"
Zhou Chong pursed his lips, but before he could say anything, Jiang Wan nodded first.
"Okay, could you please make an appointment with the gastroenterology department?"
To be honest, she still doubts whether her vomiting was actually morning sickness.
After all, I didn't feel anything in my stomach.
Is it possible that it's really just because of an upset stomach?
The nurse on duty clicked the mouse deftly, and the registration barcode machine spit out papers with a whooshing sound.
Zhou Chong turned to look at Jiang Wan, frowned slightly, and asked in confusion, "If it's just an upset stomach, wouldn't it be better to just have the family doctor come to our house?"
Jiang Wan took the registration slip from the nurse and pulled Zhou Chong aside, saying, "Since we're already here, let's take a look at everything."
Ten minutes later.
The two walked out of the consultation room.
The emergency room specialist was very responsible and experienced. After carefully listening to Jiang Wan's description and conducting a consultation, he quickly gave a professional diagnosis.
Digestive function should be fine, so there's no need for a gastroscopy or colonoscopy. Pregnancy is the most likely possibility.
They didn't trick her into undergoing a bunch of tests, nor did they prescribe any medicine to regulate her digestive system. They simply suggested that she buy a pregnancy test first.
Jiang Wan pulled Zhou Chong out of the emergency building. "How about we go to the pharmacy and buy a pregnancy test?"
Zhou Chong nodded. "I'll go buy ten to avoid testing errors."
There's no need for that...
While there is indeed a possibility of detection error, testing two or three should be sufficient.
Jiang Wan hesitated for a moment, then decided not to stop Zhou Chong from buying ten pregnancy tests at once.
-
After returning home.
The two went straight upstairs to the master bedroom.
Zhou Chong opened the bag of pregnancy tests he had just bought at the pharmacy and lined them up on the round table next to the sofa.
Jiang Wan opened one of the boxes, took out the instruction manual, and read it carefully.
"It's recommended to test in the morning, as HCG levels are more accurate then. Testing at night might not be as accurate." After reading this, Jiang Wan put the pregnancy test and instructions back on the table.
"Wife." Zhou Chong held her hand, gently rubbing it in his palm. "Your period is almost a week late, let's take a test first, okay?"
Jiang Wan looked at him hesitantly, "If it's a false positive, then... I won't be able to sleep tonight?"
“If I don’t take the test, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.” Zhou Chong looked straight at her, his eyes clear but with a hint of glint in them. “Regardless of whether the results tonight are accurate or not, we’ll take the test again tomorrow morning.”
Jiang Wan looked into his eyes and nodded. "Okay, let's test it first."
After saying that, she picked up a box of pregnancy tests from the coffee table.
As he stood up, Zhou Chong shoved another box into her hand, saying, "Test it one more time to avoid quality control errors between different brands."
"Okay." Jiang Wan took the other box of pregnancy tests he handed her, one in each hand, and turned to walk into the bathroom.
She opened the packaging and was studying how to use the pregnancy test when she heard footsteps approaching from outside the bathroom door.
It's very light, not heavy, and even a little floating.
Then it stopped outside the door.
She sat on the toilet and turned to look out the door.
A tall figure was reflected behind the frosted glass, leaning against the wall, carefully making no sound.
Jiang Wan smiled, looked away, and began fiddling with the pregnancy test in her hand.
A few minutes later.
Both pregnancy tests showed two clear lines.
Jiang Wan gasped for breath, staring at the two bars for a long time before finally taking a deep breath, like a fish that had been stranded and returned to the water.
She slowly calmed her breathing, took the two pregnancy tests, and went to open the bathroom door.
During the few minutes of waiting for the results, Zhou Chong stood quietly outside the door, wanting to know the exact news as soon as possible, but not wanting to affect Jiang Wan.
He didn't look up until the bathroom door was opened in front of him.
Instead of immediately looking for the positive result on the pregnancy test, she first checked Jiang Wan's reaction.
His expression was unperturbed, and in his slightly curved eyes, there was no disappointment or panic, but rather a hint of surprise and a touch of helplessness.
He stepped forward, took Jiang Wan's slightly trembling hand, and then lowered his eyes to check the results on the pregnancy test.
Two lines, both pregnancy tests.
His hand, which was holding Jiang Wan's, began to tremble, and he struggled to find his voice, "...She's pregnant."
"Okay." Jiang Wan nodded, looking down at the pregnancy test in her hand, and said, "But the test results at night may not be very accurate, so let's test again tomorrow morning."
“Okay, let’s do another test tomorrow morning, and then we’ll go to the hospital for a checkup.” Zhou Chong said, taking out his phone from his pocket. “I’ll book an appointment with a specialist right now.”
Jiang Wan smiled, put down the pregnancy test, walked back to the bedside and sat down, quietly watching Zhou Chong who was still standing at the bathroom door.
He remained motionless, head down, focused on making an appointment on his phone.
When he put down his phone and looked up, he found Jiang Wan sitting back on the edge of the bed, looking at him with a smile in her eyes.
Zhou Chong walked over and said, "I've already made a reservation. It's eight o'clock tomorrow morning. Isn't that a bit early?"
"No." Jiang Wan shook her head. "You need to get your blood drawn, so it's better to get better sooner."
Zhou Chong nodded. "Okay, if you feel sleepy and can't get up, just take a nap in the car, and then catch up on your sleep after you get back from the hospital."
Jiang Wan chuckled, "I can get up easily and sleep well at night. But you, can you sleep peacefully?"
Zhou Chong was taken aback, then chuckled and hugged Jiang Wan, slowly lying down on the bed. "...Not really."
Jiang Wan turned around and lay face to face with Zhou Chong, touching his face. "What are you nervous about?"
"It's not nervousness." Zhou Chong took her hand, brought it to his lips, and gently kissed it. "It's happiness."
"I can't sleep because I'm so excited about having our own baby."
