Hidden from everyone's sleeve, Xie Qianzhong's cold finger bones curled slightly as he looked down at the girl who was a head shorter than him. His eyes were filled with a dark mist that Song Tangxue couldn't see clearly.
Before Xie Qianzhong could answer, another voice interrupted.
"Shouldn't Miss Song thank me too?" Feng Feicui smiled, her outer garments disheveled, giving off a frivolous air about her going to entertain guests.
Song Tangxue shifted her gaze from Xie Qianzhong, guessing at their relationship, and gave a graceful bow: "Of course I must thank Young Master Feng. Thank you for your help today, um..."
Song Tangxue's gaze swept over Feng Feicui's empty back: "I also want to thank Xiao Yao."
The leaves of the big tree behind her shook violently for a moment before returning to calm, revealing Xiao Yao, who had lost all will to live.
Feng Feicui laughed so hard she almost fell over, leaning against Xie Qianzhong without any manners: "Oh my, this is really a treasure, Xie Qianzhong, don't you think?"
"Ahem." Xie Qianzhong glanced at him sideways, and Feng Feicui's smile froze on her face.
Upon receiving the danger signal, he immediately stood up straight, towering even higher than the locust tree beside him.
"I just remembered I have something to take care of." Feng Feicui disappeared into the courtyard in a flash.
Suddenly a head appeared on the archway. Feng Feicui calculated the distance between Xie Qianzhong and him, and said with relief, "This young master wishes the two of you a long and happy marriage and many children."
Then he quickly snapped back to reality; his calculations were clearly flawed.
"Thump."
He bumped his forehead hard against the archway next to him, and without caring about the pain, he ran away in a daze.
Xie Qianzhong watched Feng Feicui perform this acrobatic act with a blank expression, while Song Tangxue chuckled, "Young Master Feng is an interesting person."
"Is that so?" Xie Qianzhong's expression remained inscrutable as he thoughtfully watched the disappearing figure, lowering his head slightly. "You don't need to investigate the saltpeter matter anymore."
Song Tangxue looked up, somewhat puzzled: "Why?"
Xie Qianzhong avoided Song Tangxue's gaze and looked towards the outside of the courtyard wall: "The matter has been handled, you don't need to interfere anymore."
When Xie Qianzhong took out the "Dark Moon" token last time, he recalled the strangeness in his mind. It seemed that there was some shocking secret hidden behind the saltpeter case, and that this matter was related to Xie Qianzhong.
She could understand Xie Qianzhong's actions; he wanted to stay out of it, and not getting involved was the safest course of action.
"Is this matter far-reaching, causing you some trouble?" Song Tangxue asked tentatively.
Xie Qianzhong explained somewhat helplessly, "What are you thinking now? This is a very simple case. I was overthinking it before. Now that we've investigated and dealt with those people, this matter will be over."
Song Tangxue wouldn't believe such nonsense; she still hadn't figured out the details of the fire in her past life.
If Xie Qianzhong really investigated thoroughly, he would definitely find that it was related to him. How could he be so calm?
Despite her turbulent thoughts, Song Tangxue smiled and thanked Xie Qianzhong for his kindness: "I understand, I'll listen to whatever you say."
Spring light pierced through the treetops and quietly fell upon Song Tangxue, serene and warm.
This deal is over. Will they ever meet again? It's probably unlikely.
Song Tangxue's eyes flickered for a moment: "Lord Xie, can our cooperation continue?"
Xie Qianzhong looked at her, and Song Tangxue couldn't understand the look in his eyes.
"I have another collaboration opportunity here. I wonder if Lord Xie would be interested?" Song Tangxue didn't want to miss this chance.
In this life, there are always things you have to fight for yourself, and the other party isn't entirely unintentional.
Xie Qianzhong, seemingly being manipulated, said, "I would like to hear the details."
"As you know, I own many shops, and now the Song family is eyeing them covetously, and countless eyes outside are eyeing this lucrative position."
Xie Qianzhong's eyes were like those of a thousand stars, captivating at first glance: "What's in it for me?"
"With such a vast business empire, I can offer a lot, including logistical support and financial assistance. Of course, I'll need your protection in these areas." Song Tangxue obediently awaited Xie Qianzhong's response.
Only Xie Qianzhong knew the true nature beneath that obedient face.
Now this person is even unwilling to wear this mask anymore. Today's arrogant and domineering young lady is the true demeanor of a legitimate daughter raised by a family.
She should be stunningly beautiful, not timid and submissive as usual.
"Okay," Xie Qianzhong agreed. "Let's leave first, it's not good to stay any longer..."
Song Tangxue chuckled and gave him a mischievous look, but didn't say anything more. With Xie Qianzhong stepping aside to let her go first, she walked ahead.
Even with her back to Xie Qianzhong, Song Tangxue could still feel the gaze fixed on her.
Perhaps feeling that he could no longer see, that gaze became more unrestrained and intense.
Stepping out of the shade of the trees, the view is clear and bright. The passing spring breeze keeps stirring the spring colors of the garden. The flower branches bend over for it, and the grass slowly droops its head.
As they approached the archway, Song Tangxue suddenly remembered the unlucky guy who had bumped into the pillar, and turned around to say a few words to Xie Qianzhong.
With the threshold right beneath her feet, she stepped halfway out and turned her head, clearly having forgotten about it. Her whole body, like a fluttering butterfly, fell into another embrace.
Just one step away, Xie Qianzhong embraced the spring butterfly tightly, gazing intently at the person in his arms.
As she got closer, Song Tangxue realized that this person wasn't as calm as he appeared. At the very least, his heart was pounding, and he was nothing like the composed man he seemed to be.
Song Tangxue gave a short laugh: "Should I thank Lord Xie again? Otherwise, I'm afraid I would be disfigured today."
The sweltering heat, carrying the fragrance of spring flowers, enveloped Xie Qianzhong.
The heat traveled along the meridians and warmed the internal organs.
Xie Qianzhong paused for a moment, then tried to push Song Tangxue away. Song Tangxue's body was like water; with a gentle sway, she seemed unable to stand steadily.
Song Tangxue didn't expect Xie Qianzhong to suddenly push her away, and subconsciously reached out to hug Xie Qianzhong's neck.
They were so close, so close that Xie Qianzhong could see Song Tangxue's eyelashes, which fluttered gently like butterfly wings, stirring his heart.
Xie Qianzhong felt a slight itch in his heart, a feeling like an itch that hadn't been relieved, hanging in mid-air, neither up nor down.
Song Tangxue released her grip, took a step back, and still smiled, "Thank you for stopping, Lord Xie. I'll head back now."
Watching her figure disappear at the entrance of the manor, Xie Qianzhong felt a moment of emptiness in his heart and lowered his eyes.
It's much more interesting than before.
When the carriage returned to the Song residence, it was brightly lit, and the sunset glowed against the sky, covering the entire sky.
