"A main dish," Zhou Xu and Zhou Yu said in unison, then turned and left.
The three people left in the room looked at the table full of dishes. Weren't these dishes big enough?
A short while later, Zhang Cui and Li Qiuju also came in. "They were watching Sui Sui make the last dish and chased us out."
They wanted the two of them to sit down as soon as possible. The bowls, chopsticks, and drinks were already set out. The Zhou family elders sat inside, their eyes constantly glancing outside, waiting for the main dishes to appear.
Zhou Dawu even joked, "I feel like I'm eating at a restaurant."
Zhang Cui added, "With this much food at home, I don't know how much it would cost to go to a restaurant, and it might not even taste as good as what we make at home."
"Sui Sui is such a skillful child. Look how different the dishes look after she arranged them."
Indeed, this table of dishes not only smells delicious but also looks beautiful; it truly is a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate.
Just then, Zhou Xu's voice came from outside, "The main dish is here, the main dish is here."
Everyone turned around and saw Zhou Xu and Zhou Yu carrying a plate together, walking in with measured steps.
Zhou Sui was originally following closely behind the two of them, but when she heard Zhou Xu's loud voice, she was so embarrassed that she put her feet down and slowed down, letting the two of them show off.
Zhou Yu directed everyone to clear out the center seat and shouted, "The ultimate dish, squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, please serve!"
"Here it comes!" Zhou Xu and she called out in unison, placing the uniquely shaped dish in the very center.
Everyone's attention was immediately drawn to it, "This is a squirrel mandarin fish?"
It was originally just an ordinary dish, but the brother and sister made it look like dragon meat and sea cucumber. When Zhou Sui came in, everyone couldn't wait to ask her how she made it.
Li Qiuju and Zhang Cui knew the initial steps, but they came out when the frying started.
Unexpectedly, after frying, when the fish head was placed on top, it looked so lifelike.
"I've learned it, I've learned it!" Zhang Cui said repeatedly. "I'll try making this dish next time. It looks so impressive."
Once all the dishes were served, the family sat down around the table. Grandma Zhou, being the eldest, said a few auspicious words before raising her glass.
Children in the Zhou family are not allowed to drink alcohol; the children in this context specifically refer to Zhou Yu and Zhou Xu, who are still in school.
In fact, Zhou Sui was still a child in the old lady's eyes, but this year, thanks to her own efforts, she has become a small business owner, so the old lady can no longer treat her like a child.
So she poured half a glass of wine into her cup, and because it was the New Year, the old lady made an exception and asked her two children for their opinions.
"If you want to drink, you can pour half a glass and we can all clink glasses. If you don't want to drink, we also have soft drinks available."
"Of course, it's drinking." Zhou Xu has never drunk alcohol before. Even his sister drinks, so there's no reason why he can't.
Zhou Yu was just curious; everyone was drinking, so she joined in.
"Alright!" Grandma Zhou picked up her wine glass. "I won't say any more. Let's toast as a family, and may our lives become more and more prosperous."
"Cheers!" came the crisp sound of glasses clinking.
This year has probably been the happiest and most interesting year for the Zhou family in recent years.
The whole family was constantly smiling, and Zhou Sui, immersed in the joyful atmosphere, unknowingly drank a few glasses of wine as well.
"Sister, please stop drinking, your face is so red," Zhou Yu said with concern as she sat next to her and watched her pour the wine.
"And you're talking about me? You get all red in the face from just a few drinks."
Not only Zhou Yu and Zhou Xu, but most of the people at the table had flushed faces because it was too warm inside.
"I'll open another window." Zhou Yu was worried about carbon monoxide poisoning from the closed doors and windows when they started eating, so she left a crack in the window.
Now that everyone has drunk alcohol, their bodies are starting to heat up. Even though a cold draft occasionally seeps into the room after opening a window, they don't feel cold.
The meal lasted from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone pitched in, and it only took half an hour from clearing the table to washing the dishes.
After spending the afternoon in the kitchen, Zhou Sui felt like she was covered in cooking fumes, so she went back to wash her hair and take a shower.
The Zhou family has a tradition of staying up all night on New Year's Eve. They have to wait until midnight, eat dumplings, and then go to sleep.
Moreover, starting from 11:30, the lights will gradually start to play.
At this time, everyone was playing with the firecrackers and fireworks they had bought in the village.
When Zhou Sui finished washing up and went outside, there was already a group of children on the road in front of the door, wildly swinging firecrackers around, lighting them, and then quickly throwing them into the fields.
If someone were passing by without paying attention, they would be startled by that loud bang.
After watching from the doorway for a while, Zhou Sui hesitated to step out until Zhou Yu handed her a handful of small fireworks. "Sister, Zhao Xinfeng said we should go to the center of the village to play together, and we can watch fireworks later. Do you want to go?"
Upon hearing Zhao Xinfeng's name, Zhou Sui couldn't help but think of Song Qi'an, and then she subconsciously shook her head.
"I'm too lazy to move. You guys go ahead, I'll just stay here and watch."
Zhou Yu didn't force her, and gave her another handful of small fireworks, saying, "You can play with them all. If you've had a drink, just play around near your home."
She always felt that Zhou Sui had drunk so much that she was already slightly tipsy.
As the saying goes, it's not the wine that intoxicates, but the person who makes you drunk. Zhou Sui held a small firework in her hand, preparing to go to the side where there were fewer children to experience the joy of setting off fireworks.
Then she actually saw a familiar figure. Zhou Sui shook her head. Oh no, she was really drunk and hallucinating.
