Chapter 2: We must not repeat the same mistakes!

"Knowing you're in good health, I'll accompany you for a short while." Zhou Sui affectionately took the old lady's arm.

This sudden action made Old Zhou take a second look at her. Although they were grandfather and granddaughter, their relationship wasn't actually that deep.

Zhou Sui was adopted by the Zhou family, which was no secret; Zhou Sui knew this when she was a child.

However, the Zhou family did not mistreat her because of this. Old Mrs. Zhou was not the kind of person who favored boys over girls. She said that since she was a member of the Zhou family, she should be treated equally.

The reason why the two did not have a deep relationship was largely due to Zhou Sui's personality.

She was largely influenced by Li Qiuju. She was a nobody in the Zhou family, didn't like to talk, was timid and submissive, and silently endured any grievances.

The domineering Old Mrs. Zhou naturally disapproved of such a personality and was afraid that her granddaughter would suffer. The old lady even tried to change Zhou Sui's personality, but this only made Zhou Sui shrink back into her shell and develop a fear of the old lady. From then on, the old lady stopped paying special attention to her granddaughter.

"You're quite sensible today, even knowing to advise your mother." The old lady was equally surprised by this; she never expected to hear those words from Zhou Sui.

Zhou Sui pursed her slightly dry lips. "Grandma, my dad was wrong, and my mom was wrong to just keep tolerating it."

Including herself, she ended up like that in her past life because of her constant forbearance.

"You've finally seen the light." In just a few steps, Grandma Zhou was already at the door. "Give your mother a good talking-to, tell her to stand up for herself and stop acting like a doormat all the time."

After saying that, Grandma Zhou pushed the door open and went inside. After hearing the sound of the door being locked, Zhou Sui also turned and left.

As soon as I entered, I saw Li Qiuju struggling to drag the drunk and asleep Zhou Dayong into the house. "Sui Sui, come and give me a hand, get your dad to bed."

Zhou Dayong's weight was equivalent to three Li Qiujus's, and at this moment, Li Qiuju was still gritting her teeth and carrying people with her bruised hands.

Seeing her strain so hard that her veins were bulging, Zhou Sui felt a surge of inexplicable anger.

"Why are you still bothering with him? Do you want to get beaten up again?"

As she spoke, Zhou Sui forcibly pried Li Qiuju's hand open, and without any support, Zhou Dayong slid down the steps with a thud, falling completely to the ground.

But the person remained unresponsive with their eyes closed, indicating how extremely drunk they were.

"Come on, come back to sleep with me." Zhou Sui pulled Li Qiuju and walked into her room.

Li Qiuju kept turning around, saying, "Your dad is still lying on the ground. It's autumn now, so don't let him catch a cold. Your grandma was hit pretty hard with those sticks, so he needs some medicine."

She tried to break free from her daughter's hand, but Zhou Sui's thin hand held her tightly until they entered the house and Zhou Sui slammed the door shut.

"Sui Sui, you go to sleep first, I can do it myself." Seeing that Li Qiuju still wanted to go out, Zhou Sui finally couldn't help but explode.

"Mom!" A loud shout, choked with sobs, stunned Li Qiuju.

"Why don't you worry about yourself? My dad has thick skin and tough flesh. So what if he gets a few blows after being frozen all night? Why are you so worried about him?"

"He didn't seem to care when he hit you."

"You can't always be like this, always enduring, always enduring, what will happen in the end?"

"What good will it do if you just endure it? No! It will only make him more and more ruthless."

"Mom, I'm begging you, please stop putting up with this! Think about yourself!"

Zhou Sui practically cried out these words, not only to Li Qiuju, but also to herself, to her past self and to her present self.

In her past life, after being taken back by her biological parents, she endured all sorts of humiliation, silently tolerated, and humbly tried to please them, only to end up with a tragic ending.

This time, she not only wants to avoid repeating the same mistakes, but also wants to help Li Qiuju get out of the mire!

"Sui Sui." Li Qiuju looked at her daughter in front of her, her emotions running high and her eyes filled with heartache.

Her daughter has always been sensible and gentle, never raising her voice. The fact that she acted like this today suggests that she was pushed to the limit.

"Mom, I'm sorry." After yelling, Zhou Sui sniffed. The person in front of her was, after all, her mother, and she shouldn't have been so rude as to yell at her.

This apology brought tears of sorrow to Li Qiuju's eyes. "Silly child, it is Mom who should apologize. It is all Mom's fault for being weak and incompetent, causing you to worry."

Li Qiuju is aware of her own bad character, but this character has been with her for over thirty years since she was a child, so how can she just change it?

Zhou Sui knew that haste makes waste, so she sniffed and said softly, "Mom, you should go to sleep first. You haven't had a good night's sleep these past few days."

It was harvest time, and Li Qiuju was doing most of the farm work. In addition, Zhou Sui had been running a fever for the past two days and was often drowsy, so Li Qiuju would stay by her daughter's bedside and doze off at night.

Dark circles, large eye bags, and a sallow complexion are all evidence that she hasn't had enough rest.

Zhou Sui's bed is not big; once the mother and daughter lie side by side on the bed, there is not much extra space.

With her head resting on a slightly hard pillow, Zhou Sui felt as if it were all a dream. She had died and then come back to life. If Li Qiuju hadn't been lying next to her today, Zhou Sui might have truly believed it was all a dream she had imagined.

"Oh, right, Sui Sui." Li Qiuju reached into the pocket of her coat by the bedside and said, "Your dad bought you White Rabbit milk candy."

In the darkness, Zhou Sui rubbed the shape of the candy with her hand. When she was sick, her mouth was bitter and she had no appetite. The only thing she wanted to eat was candy. Zhou Dayong remembered this very well, and every time, he would find a way to buy her different flavors of candy.

Until she left the Zhou family with her biological parents, who were wealthy, no one bought her candy when she was sick.

Zhou Sui's eyes suddenly went blank. After Li Qiuju left in her previous life, Zhou Dayong was all alone. At that time, Zhou Dayong was in a daze, as if he could not see any hope for life and was just waiting for death to come.

This man, who was waiting to die, resolutely sold his blood when he heard that his adopted daughter, who was thousands of miles away, was sick and in dire need of money. He sent her all his possessions, along with the money from the blood sale, to her.

Thinking of this, two hot tears slid down Zhou Sui's cheeks, and her chest ached. At that time, Zhou Dayong had become a thin old man. How could his body withstand the loss of so much blood?

When Zhou Sui saw Zhou Dayong again today, she didn't know how to face him.

On one hand, there is his deep paternal love; on the other hand, he is an unfit husband who lays a hand on his wife.

The sound of Li Qiuju's steady breathing could be heard beside her. Exhausted from the past few days, she fell asleep soon after her head hit the pillow.
