Zhou Xu was furious, shouting that he had never seen anyone take advantage of others to this extent.
Zhou Sui was still advising him from the side, "Just add more water when you cook the soup, it's not a big loss for us."
If she hadn't calculated the costs, how could she have dared to let Zhou Xu sell it like this?
"I just can't stand the way she acts." Zhou Xu didn't even want to get her soup the second time, but the old lady kept saying, "I bought food from you, why won't you give me some?"
When doing business, you're bound to encounter people like this. They just want to take advantage of you. If you argue with them, you'll only end up getting angry.
Zhou Sui has lived an extra lifetime, and has come to understand some things much better.
The focus right now shouldn't be on that greedy old lady, but on the vendors around here.
People have already come up to ask what's going on, "Young lady, what are you selling? It's selling so fast."
The first one to arrive was the woman selling noodles; her stall was the largest among all the people there.
A few tables were set up so that people could sit down and eat their noodles.
"It's something I researched at home," Zhou Sui said vaguely.
The older sister stared into the pot for a long time, but there wasn't much left. All she could see were a few bamboo skewers and the broth from the spicy hot pot.
"That's amazing. It doesn't look very big, but it can already figure out how to cook."
"I don't know what kind of new thing it is, it looks really weird."
The older sister's tone sounded a bit strange; it didn't sound like a compliment, but rather a bit sarcastic.
Zhou Sui smiled slightly and said modestly, "I'm not that great. I just sold out these two pots of food. If we're talking about who's great, you're definitely the one who's great, big sister."
"Selling noodles is quite particular. By the way, ma'am, how's your business?"
When you're going to criticize someone, you have to find the right spot. As soon as Zhou Sui finished speaking, the older sister's expression changed.
This is really hitting her sore spot. Everyone's coming to Zhou Sui's place, and the water in her pot is almost boiled dry. She hasn't sold more than a few bowls of noodles.
The woman selling noodles got away scot-free and went home with a dark expression.
Li Qiuju was a little worried, "Sui Sui, we'll still be doing business here in the future. It wouldn't be good to offend people."
Zhou Sui, however, was not afraid. "Mom, you said we're going to do business here. If we're not assertive, we'll be the ones who get bullied."
Zhou Sui deeply understands this point. She would rather be a little fierce at the beginning than let people think she is easy to bully, otherwise they will keep pushing her away.
She's out there to earn money, not to engage in social niceties with you.
Making money by setting up a stall depends on one's own abilities.
Li Qiuju knew that her daughter had become much more assertive, so she stopped saying anything.
"By the way, Mom, what brings you and Auntie here?"
Zhou Sui only remembered this now that she had some free time.
Li Qiuju awkwardly avoided her daughter's gaze. "I was bored at the movie theater by myself, and when I saw your second aunt come here, I came over to keep her company."
Zhou Sui could tell from her expression that she wasn't telling the truth.
"Mom, is there someone else selling popcorn outside the movie theater like you?"
Li Qiuju stared wide-eyed at her daughter in surprise, "How did you know?"
She hadn't told anyone about this except Zhang Cui.
Zhou Sui was just guessing, since popcorn doesn't actually require much skill; it's just a matter of how big the popcorn pieces are.
"Is it the elderly couple who sold melon seeds before?" Zhou Sui guessed again.
Li Qiuju nodded, "There was another older woman too."
Suddenly, three popcorn vendors appeared in a small movie theater.
The crowd was naturally dispersed, "and their prices are all lower than ours."
"I asked your second aunt to buy some to try, but it doesn't taste as good as ours. But it's cheaper."
People who come to the movies don't expect to get full from popcorn; they just want to eat something. Many people come specifically for the cheapest option.
Therefore, some people start bargaining when buying from Li Qiuju.
Li Qiuju refused, saying, "You want it cheap and taste good at the same time? There's no such thing as having it all."
Business has plummeted these past two days, and since Zhang Cui mentioned that there were quite a few people working at the factory, she decided to come over.
"Sui Sui, shouldn't Mom have come?" Li Qiuju thought about it and felt a little regretful, although it was not as good as when she had the whole family.
But besides the movie theater, she could also sell her wares at the department store, so the two places combined were actually quite acceptable.
"Mom, do you think it sells better here or at the movie theater?" Zhou Sui asked.
"I just got here today, and it's pretty good. It's about the same as when we first went to the movie theater." There were two big bags of popcorn, and they had already sold most of them by noon.
"Then why are you worried about whether you should come? As long as you can make money, that's all that matters."
Zhou Sui had also anticipated that Li Qiuju would encounter such a situation. She had originally planned to talk to her about it in the next day or two, but she didn't expect that Li Qiuju would react on her own.
"This popcorn is just for novelty; once people have tried it once or twice, they'll know how to make it."
"Stop selling after these few days." The novelty has worn off.
"Then what should I sell?" Li Qiuju asked anxiously. "Sui Sui, Mom should sell popcorn. There's nothing to do at home anyway, and a few yuan a day is fine."
Zhou Sui knew that she had realized that doing business could make money.
"Mom, don't worry, I won't let you be idle. I still have a lot of food to prepare."
If it weren't for the current shortage of manpower, Zhou Sui would love to rent a storefront directly.
But it will be soon. Once Zhou Dayong returns tomorrow, this matter will need to be put on the agenda.
Li Qiuju was relieved to hear her say that.
Zhou Sui had nothing left to sell in her food cart, and she didn't plan to sell anything else in the afternoon. Today, she mainly wanted to see which dishes would sell well so she could prepare more in the future.
After delivering the food cart back to Sister Wang's house, she inquired about how much it would cost to rent a storefront in town.
Prices range from a little over one hundred to over five hundred, mainly depending on the size of the storefront and its location.
Zhou Sui found a piece of white paper and wrote down the details, prices, and locations of each storefront, planning to bring her parents to see them again tomorrow.
Because she only has so much money left, after renting the storefront, she won't have much left, so she still needs her family to help her out.
As Zhou Sui walked home, pondering her plans, she had just pushed open her own courtyard gate when she heard Old Mrs. Zhou's gate suddenly slam open from the inside.
She turned her head and looked over. Old Mrs. Zhou came out with a pale face. "Sui Sui, the people from the brick factory just called and said your father has fainted."
Li Qiuju, who was coming out of the house, happened to hear this.
"Mom, what did you say? What happened to Dayong?"
"Da Yong has fainted. The people at the brick factory said we need to go there right away."
Li Qiuju almost lost her balance after hearing this, and Zhou Sui quickly reached out to support her.
