Chapter 45 Sudden Change

He snatched the sword from the Imperial Guard beside him and slashed his own arm.

"In my name, I call upon your name..."

An invisible wind seemed to have appeared around the Emperor of Chu, stirring up fallen leaves and dust that enveloped everyone.

"What is he doing?" Tang Nian helped Lou Mu up, looking at the scene before her with a serious yet somewhat puzzled expression.

Lou Mu couldn't help but frown: "He's chanting a spell."

"What use is it for a mortal to chant incantations?" Despite saying this, Tang Nian's eyes never left Emperor Chu.

Ordinary people who do not understand magic cannot use its power, even if they do.

It's obvious that the Chu Emperor was different.

Could it be that he really has the ability to summon some troublesome monster?

"Perhaps Master Wang used some kind of elixir to change his physique." Lou Mu shrugged and said unhurriedly, "It's alright, look at his shoulders."

Tang Nian looked in the direction Lou Mu was referring to and couldn't help but gasp.

"How can it grow so fast!"

She had clearly only seen a baby with a growing head before.

"No! How could it not work!"

Emperor Chu's breathing became heavier, and he hunched over as if a thousand pounds were pressing down on his shoulders. But he seemed oblivious to everything, continuing to chant incantations. He even cut his arm again, as if he hadn't bled enough.

Lou Mu kindly reminded him, "Why isn't it working? Look at your shoulder."

The general beside him was so frightened that he dropped his sword and forgot to pick it up. He sat down on the ground and retreated backward.

Emperor Chu then looked to his side and saw a little devil sitting there, grinning with a big mouth and staring at him with scarlet eyes.

He turned to the other side, trembling, and saw the head of an adult, the neck seemingly growing from his shoulders, the eyes closed as if he were still unconscious.

He recognized that face all too well; it was him!

The Chu Emperor froze on the spot, his whole body turning cold and at a loss for what to do.

What on earth is this?!

"Guards! Guards! Get this damned thing off me!"

However, no one dared to approach, and they even scrambled away from the Chu Emperor.

Those who dared to approach remained indifferent and watched from the sidelines.

The Chu Emperor was now truly all alone. What made him even more desperate was that the little devil turned around, straddled his shoulders, and pressed its pale face against his.

The Chu Emperor could no longer hold on and sat down on the ground with a thud. He waved his arms, trying to throw the little devil away, but the little devil remained unmoved and sat calmly.

"Stay away from me!"

Hearing the roar of the Chu Emperor, Lou Mu gently pushed away Tang Nian's hand, walked down the steps, and stood a few steps away from the Chu Emperor.

"Keep it away from you?" Lou Mu shook his head. "Evil arises from the heart. After doing so many evil deeds, you are bound to be haunted by evil spirits and resentment. How could little ghosts not haunt you?"

"Master Wang! Save me!"

The Chu Emperor placed all his hopes on Wang Tianshi, who wasn't even there.

Looking at the desperate Emperor Chu, Lou Mu said with great compassion, "Your Majesty, do you know that if it weren't for the spell given to you by Master Wang, you could have lived a few more days? What a pity."

"Also, the head on your right is always ready to replace you and take over your body."

Even as he said this, Lou Mu still felt somewhat worried.

The Chu Emperor turned his head tremblingly and saw that the head that had been sleeping had opened its eyes at some point and was staring at him with a wicked smile.

He seemed to have thought of something, and knelt on the ground, pleading and kowtowing: "Tang Nian, no, Miss Tang, you must have a way, right! Please save me! I'll give you anything you want!"

Standing in front of the Imperial Study, Tang Nian heard the Emperor Chu's plea, raised her eyelids, and her cold gaze stung the Emperor Chu.

Seeing that Tang Nian ignored him, he cautiously glanced at Lou Mu, then shouted at Chu Yanjun standing to the side, "Third brother! I am your father! Are you going to just stand by and watch your father turn into a monster?!"

Chu Yanjun couldn't bear it and turned his head away, refusing to look at his once high and mighty father.

He never expected that Lou Mu's so-called opportunity would be this!

Lou Mu said coldly, "Your Majesty, it's too late."

Upon hearing this, the Chu Emperor immediately understood.

He whirled around and saw the little devil's head pressed against his ear. The devil, noticing he'd turned, grinned and whispered, "Now, you're mine."

Before the Chu Emperor could react, the little devil's body suddenly grew larger, pressing down on the Chu Emperor and causing him to fall to the left.

Immediately afterwards, the little devil opened its mouth wide and swallowed the Chu Emperor's head whole, leaving only the head with a wicked grin staring at everyone.

The gurgling swallowing and crunching chewing sounds were unusually loud in the silence, and everyone stood there stunned, feeling a chill run down their spines.

The ministers stood at a distance, covering their eyes with their wide sleeves; some of the more timid ones had already run to the corner to vomit.

The Chu Emperor seemed to still be conscious, and indistinct sounds came from the little devil's mouth.

He didn't know which step he had done wrong.

He can live forever!

Why was he the one who died in the end?

Master Wang said that he is the true Son of Heaven! Only he can hold onto the throne for a long time!

Lou Mu shook his head. Others couldn't hear him, but he heard him perfectly.

Even on his deathbed, the Chu emperor was still dreaming of immortality.

He pulled the sword from the pillar and tossed it back to Tang Nian.

Tang Nian caught the sword and stared at the scene before her without saying a word.

Gradually, the Chu Emperor's struggles lessened, but he did not fall; he remained kneeling on the ground.

The little devil wiped its mouth, its scarlet eyes filled with greed. The moment it straightened up, Emperor Chu also stood up.

The messy bite marks and oozing blood on his neck reminded everyone that the Chu Emperor was dead.

But the head with the wicked smile blinked, looked around at the people, and finally his gaze settled on Tang Nian and Lou Mu.

Tang Nian frowned and threw the sword with one hand, but the head was unusually agile, dodging the sword with a turn of its head.

"What exactly is this thing?"

Tang Nian had never seen anything like this before. She was quite certain that the Chu Emperor was dead, but the agility of this thing in front of her was not that of a zombie.

Could it be that he really summoned a monster?

Lou Mu shook his head, his face also solemn. He had never seen such an evil creature in all his years of life.

He had only considered the little devil on his left shoulder, but the situation was now more complicated than he had imagined.

He turned to look at Chu Yanjun, who understood immediately and directed the generals to retreat.

Those Imperial Guards no longer dared to pledge allegiance to Emperor Chu, and instead followed Chu Yanjun on their knees and crawled along.

No one dared to make a move.

Just as Tang Nian was about to take a talisman from his sleeve to try it out, "Emperor Chu" moved.

He was like a ghost; no one could see how he moved before he was right in front of Tang Nian.
