Chapter 44 A Close Call

Tang Nian was unable to dodge in time and took the hit of the lightning bolt head-on, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

As soon as she let go, the Chu Emperor, disregarding his disheveled state, crawled and knelt as he fled the imperial study.

"Damn it."

She originally intended to coerce the Chu Emperor into rescinding the order, but perhaps because the Chu Emperor had committed too many heinous acts, he was destined to be killed by her, which is why he was struck by heavenly lightning.

But this Chu emperor was so incompetent and tyrannical that even the gods wanted to stop her.

Do we really have to wait until that person awakens?

Tang Nian wiped the blood from her mouth with her sleeve, but she didn't notice that a crystal-clear bead had shattered into powder in her sleeve and scattered on the ground.

She dared not delay and hurried after them, only to find the area outside filled with Imperial Guards, and the figure of the Chu Emperor could be vaguely seen behind them.

Tang Nian took out the sword tassel and held it in her hand, and a long sword appeared out of thin air.

She didn't look at the Chu Emperor, but instead looked up at the dark, cloud-covered sky, where she could vaguely see the gathering thunderbolts.

Tang Nian gripped the longsword tightly, but then heard the Chu Emperor's command.

"Guards! Kill this witch!"

At this moment, the Chu Emperor no longer cared that Tang Nian was his medicinal ingredient; he now had only one thought: to kill her!

"etc!"

Tang Nian frowned and turned to look around the corner. She saw Chu Roujia rush in front of her, spreading her arms to shield her: "Father!"

The Chu Emperor remained unmoved, as if the person before him were a complete stranger: "Anyone who obstructs will be killed without mercy."

The atmosphere instantly plummeted to freezing point. An aura of impending death seemed to grip Chu Roujia's heart like an invisible hand.

She stared in shock at the powerful and influential Emperor Chu, who stood in opposition to her, and couldn't believe that this was still her father.

Even with the Chu Emperor's order, the Imperial Guards hesitated somewhat, but moved even closer.

Tang Nian raised her hand and patted Chu Roujia on the shoulder: "Princess, you don't need to get involved in this."

"No!" Chu Roujia was no longer as calm and collected as before; she was on the verge of collapse.

Tang Nian sighed and tapped Chu Roujia on the back of the neck, causing Chu Roujia to slowly fall to the ground.

She settled Chu Roujia inside the Imperial Study before turning to look at the densely packed Imperial Guards.

Suddenly, several streaks of lightning ripped through the sky, causing everyone's pupils to constrict.

In that instant, everyone clearly saw the woman's aloof and peerless face, and her vertical pupils.

...

Meanwhile, Lou Mu, at the Third Prince's residence, looked at the dark, oppressive sky above the palace not far away and felt somewhat worried.

The celestial phenomenon of Mars guarding the heart of Antares is becoming increasingly obvious; we can't delay any longer.

After he was released from the palace and returned home, he received a message from a palace spy that Tang Nian had been placed under house arrest.

He sensed something was wrong and pretended to decline the visitor, but in reality, he evaded the guards in the mansion and went to the Third Prince's residence to prepare for the final coup.

Chu Yanjun pushed open the door and walked in, placing a stack of papers in front of Lou Mu.

"Lord Lou, look."

Lou Mu withdrew his gaze, picked up the paper, and his expression grew increasingly solemn as he read it.

The above is a message from a palace spy, detailing everything that happened after Lou Mu left.

He never expected that even after things had come to this point, the Chu Emperor would still be courting death.

Tang Nian probably already knows.

Hopefully she won't act impulsively.

Thinking of Tang Nian, Lou Mu couldn't help but rub his temples.

But he knew he had to stay calm.

He already had a few ideas in mind, but he still asked in return, "What does Your Highness think?"

"In my opinion, we should send troops to stop it, but..." Chu Yanjun was also very conflicted.

"What is Your Highness worried about?" Lou Mu gently turned the bracelet, a sense of irritation rising in his heart. "Your Highness should know your current situation."

Suddenly, the string of beads in Lou Mu's hand broke, and the jade beads scattered all over the ground.

Lou Mu quickly turned his head, only to find that the sky above the palace had become even more eerie.

He stood up, picked up the beads, and stuffed them back into his sleeve: "If Your Highness has made up your mind, you can lead the generals to the palace gate at 1:15 PM. This is the best opportunity."

After speaking, he pushed open the door and walked out.

"Lord Lou..."

Seeing Lou Mu get up and leave, Chu Yanjun quickly chased after him, but Lou Mu was nowhere to be seen.

It was as if they had vanished into thin air from his mansion.

Inside the palace, no fewer than a hundred archers surrounded Tang Nian in the center.

But all the arrows stopped in mid-air a second before hitting Tang Nian, and then fell to the ground.

But the next second, the dark clouds pressed down even lower, and then a bolt of purple lightning descended from the sky.

Just as Tang Nian raised the sword in her hand, she smelled a familiar fragrance, and then she was embraced in a familiar embrace.

"Lou Mu!"

Tang Nian's eyes widened in shock as she gripped Lou Mu's shoulder, watching him take the blow of a bolt of lightning.

Lou Mu's body trembled, and his entire weight pressed down on Tang Nian.

"Luckily, I made it in time," Lou Mu said softly, forcing back the pain.

The Chu Emperor looked at the couple embracing before him and waved his hand again.

No matter how the archers shot their arrows, they could not break through that invisible barrier.

Tang Nian didn't have time to speak, nor did she care about those who still wanted to kill her to silence her. She stared solemnly at the sky behind Lou Mu.

One bolt of lightning missed its target, and the heavens became enraged.

The rolling clouds made Tang Nian even more panicked.

"Don't look, sweetie."

Lou Mu raised his hand and gently covered Tang Nian's eyes, took the sword from Tang Nian's hand, and threw it backhand.

The longsword pierced through the crowd, grazed the Chu Emperor's ear, and embedded itself in the pillar behind him.

Through her fingers and the lightning, Tang Nian saw several fluffy tails swaying in the thunder, enveloping her.

Eight tails?

Tang Nian wanted to take a closer look, but was shocked and blood couldn't help but flow from the corner of her mouth. When she opened her eyes again, Lou Mu had already retracted his tail.

"you……"

Just as Tang Nian was about to ask a question, Lou Mu's hand dropped, and he fell forward. Tang Nian quickly caught him.

She glanced at the horizon in confusion. It seemed that a flash of light had appeared on the roof the instant the lightning struck, but she couldn't see anything now. Could she have been mistaken?

When she turned around, a dark figure suddenly appeared on the roof.

It was Ming Huan who went to deliver the relics.

Ming Huan sat cross-legged on the roof, quietly watching the two sides confronting each other below. He had an exquisite wooden box on his lap, but he showed no intention of going down to help.

Three bolts of heavenly lightning had already descended. Even though two of them missed Tang Nian, the heavenly lightning could no longer punish him, and the dark clouds gathered above the imperial study slowly dissipated.

"A bunch of useless trash!"

The Chu Emperor touched his ear and found that he had cut it open, from which blood gushed out. He couldn't help but curse loudly.

Just then, a series of synchronized footsteps sounded behind him.

"Third brother?" Emperor Chu laughed loudly when he saw the newcomer. "Good, good, so it was you and Lou Mu who were in cahoots."

Chu Yanjun was dressed in full armor, with soldiers and generals who had been turned against him standing behind him, and some ministers standing in the distance.

"Father."

"Don't call me Father!"

The Chu Emperor waved his sleeves, seemingly driven to madness.

All three princes were plotting to seize the throne, and even his most beloved Chu Roujia was turned against him.

Since that's the case, don't blame him for being impolite.

"None of you will leave here today! You will all be buried with me!"
