Chapter 16 Return Home (1/2)

Zheng Wanqing stood in front of a bronze mirror in a light pink brocade cheongsam. Her fingertips gently stroked the dark embroidered crabapple pattern on the brocade cheongsam. The silk fabric slid down like water, outlining the waistline just right. This material was the one that Xie Yun and Ruifengxiang picked out last month. She turned slightly to the side, lifted the hem of her skirt, and slowly turned her body. The slit of her skirt revealed her fair calves as she walked. In the morning light, they were dazzlingly white.

"This color really suits the young lady." The maid praised with a smile on her face, holding the rouge box in her hands.

Zheng Wanqing leaned forward slightly and carefully applied rouge on her lips in the bronze mirror. The bright red color added a touch of charm to her face.

As soon as she turned around, she saw Xie Yun standing quietly at the door, looking at her with burning eyes.

"What's wrong?" Her ears felt slightly hot when he looked at her, a blush crept up her cheeks, and her fingertips subconsciously stroked her temples.

Xie Yun didn't say anything. He only heard the dull and powerful sound of his military boots stepping on the soft carpet. In an instant, he was beside her. He stretched out his long arms, firmly grasped her waist with his powerful arms, and gently embraced her in his arms. When he lowered his head, the refreshing mint smell of shaving water came to his nose. Then, he gently kissed her forehead and said in a low voice: "... It suits you very well."

The words brushed past Zheng Wanqing's earlobe and the side of her neck, causing a small shudder. Zheng Wanqing caught a glimpse of her own red ear tips in the mirror and gently pushed him away: "Young Marshal, it's time to set off."

Xie Yun chuckled, his voice low and magnetic. He stretched out his fingertips and gently rubbed the corners of her lips, his movements gentle and ambiguous, and then whispered, "Let's go."

The morning light of early autumn shines through the yellowing sycamore leaves, casting mottled shadows on the bluestone slabs in front of Zheng's house. A sudden rain last night washed away the summer heat, and there were still puddles of clear water in the cracks of the slabs. The wind has brought a bit of coolness, gently rolling up the fallen sycamore leaves on the ground, and swirling around Liu Ma's indigo cloth shoes.

"Young Marshal, Young Madam!" Aunt Liu came up to greet them with a smile on her face.

Zheng Wanqing got out of the car with Xie Yun's hand. She looked up at the sky. There were a few thin clouds floating in the clear blue sky. "It seems to be a little cooler today. Aunt Liu, is my father okay?"

"He's sitting in the front hall." Aunt Liu responded with a smile.

On the stone steps in front of the main hall were several green porcelain pots, with chrysanthemum seedlings in them just sprouting green branches. Zheng Shaoqi was sitting leisurely in a rattan chair, with a thin blanket covering his knees, holding an ancient purple clay teapot in his hand, sipping tea leisurely. Seeing them come in, Zheng Shaoqi smiled and greeted them, "You came just in time, this pot of Tieguanyin is only good after the second brew."

Xie Yun nodded, his attitude respectful but dignified: "Father-in-law."

Zheng Wanqing stepped forward and said softly, "Father."

Zheng Shaoqi raised his hand and gestured: "Sit down and have some tea."

Then, the maid came forward and poured tea for them.

"Father, how have you been lately?" Zheng Wanqing asked with concern.

"It's okay. I've been free lately and have handed over all the things on hand to your second brother. How is your family?" Zheng Shaoqi looked at his daughter gently.

She pursed her lips and smiled, her eyes inadvertently meeting Xie Yun's. At that moment, her eyes were filled with tears, silently responding to her father's concern.

After a few pleasantries, Xie Yun glanced at his pocket watch, his expression slightly solemn, and stood up to say goodbye: "Father-in-law, the military still has important matters to deal with. I need to go there immediately and come back to pick up Wanqing later."

Zheng Shaoqi nodded: "Business is important, you go ahead."

Xie Yun turned to look at Zheng Wanqing, his eyes full of tenderness and concern, and whispered, "I'll pick you up later."
