Chapter 61 Urgency (1/2)

Before dawn, a dim kerosene lamp had been lit in the temporary command center, casting a soft and somewhat hazy glow in the slightly dim space.

Xie Yun folded a written letter and stuffed it into his arms. When he turned around, his eyes fell on Zheng Wanqing, who was lowering her head to tie the silver-gray laces of her cloak, her slender white fingers moving through the silk.

Xie Yun went to the corner where protective equipment was piled up and took out a white protective suit from a wooden box. The protective suit was slightly stiff due to repeated washing. He gently shook it open and checked every seam inch by inch under the light.

"Wanqing, come here." His voice was hoarse and magnetic, which was unique to waking up in the morning.

Zheng Wanqing heard the father's call and walked slowly to his side.

"Raise your hands."

Zheng Wanqing opened her arms obediently, as docile as a docile little deer.

Xie Yun put the protective suit on her. The sharp and pungent smell of the disinfectant soap on the protective suit made her nose wrinkle slightly. She looked up and watched Xie Yun put it on her carefully. When he tied the belt around her back, his warm breath brushed against the exposed skin on the back of her neck, instantly causing a slight shudder.

"Remember, the gloves must be tucked into the cuffs, like this." Xie Yun said as he carefully demonstrated how to fold her cuffs and secure them with a rubber band. His expression was serious and solemn as he spoke, "Last week a nurse..." However, the words stopped abruptly, and the unfinished words were weighed heavily with the weight of life.

Zheng Wanqing looked at her hands that were wrapped tightly, feeling a pang of sadness in her heart, and nodded solemnly.

As soon as the two stepped out of the command center, a cold wind wrapped in fine snow hit them on the head.

Zheng Wanqing subconsciously shrank her neck, and Xie Yun immediately stepped aside to block the way. His tall figure cut through the wind and snow, and his broad shoulders leaned forward slightly, creating a relatively safe space for her.

"The snowy road is difficult to walk on," Xie Yun's low voice was particularly clear in the wind and snow. He naturally reached out and held Zheng Wanqing's hand tightly, "Follow my footsteps." As he said that, he took a step and walked forward steadily, leaving deep footprints on the thick snow.

Zheng Wanqing followed behind him and placed her feet in the footprints left by Xie Yun's military boots. With every step, the snow made a "crunching" sound under their feet.

Following the rugged path, the two finally reached the epidemic area. At the entrance, two soldiers stood upright, wearing masks on their faces, revealing only a pair of vigilant eyes. Seeing Xie Yun and Zheng Wanqing coming, the soldiers immediately saluted in unison.

Xie Yun nodded slightly and took Zheng Wanqing through the disinfection shed filled with carbolic acid mist.

The pungent smell rushed straight into Zheng Wanqing's nose, making her eyes moist and tears welling up in her eyes. When her vision gradually became clear, more than 20 sickbeds suddenly appeared before her eyes. Nearby was a child of about seven or eight years old, whose cheeks were abnormally flushed, as if they had been burned by fire.

Zheng Wanqing's gaze eagerly passed over the numerous sickbeds and finally found the familiar white shadow at the end of the tent.

Zheng Yuheng was wearing a pure white robe, which made him stand out in the dim tent. The collar and cuffs of his robe had turned slightly white due to frequent washing, but it still remained neat and clean.

At this moment, he was leaning over to listen to the patient's heartbeat. The patient suddenly started coughing violently, and Zheng Yuheng handed him a gauze in time.

"That patient..." The dark red blood foam on the gauze made Zheng Wanqing's heart tighten, and her voice unconsciously carried a hint of panic.

"Don't go over there." Xie Yun's palm pressed down on her shoulder firmly, his strength steady and powerful, "Brother knows the details." His voice came through the double layer of gauze, sounding a little dull, but with a reassuring certainty.

Zheng Wanqing took a deep breath through the gauze mask, trying to calm her inner turmoil. She followed her brother closely, watching him listen to the patient's heart expertly and record the patient's condition meticulously.
