Chapter 12 Sister's Awakening

Butler: "Ellie's pet is amazing! More than a dozen novice mages and novice warriors couldn't do anything to it."

Joseph: "Yeah, I really didn't expect the slime to be so strong. Go tell the enforcement team later, and I'll contact Principal Brian. We've got this promising talent covered."

Deacon: "Yes, Master."

Ellie ran home, escorted by Joanna and the others.

"Lise, please be alright!"

"Don't worry, Grandma Daisy has noticed her unusual behavior and is taking care of her," Luo Fan patiently reassured her.

When they got home, Ellie finally saw how Liz was doing.

The little girl's face was pale, her brows furrowed, and her eyes lifeless; she looked as if she were in great pain. Her thin little hands were tightly clutching the slime in her arms. Only when she sensed her sister's presence did she manage to force a smile.

"Liz, how are you feeling right now?"

"Sister, my eyes hurt so much, I can't see anything now!" Liz grabbed her sister's arm, her face contorted with grief, and buried her head in her arms.

"Ellie, don't worry, I'll go find a doctor!" Anna said and hurriedly ran off. She never expected that Ellie had a sick younger sister.

Soon after, Joseph and the doctor arrived. After examining the girl, they shook their heads. The little girl's pupils were pale and completely unfocused. Moreover, her eyes were filled with a lot of chaotic magical elements, which would be very difficult to organize; that area was too vulnerable.

"Doctor, is there really no way?" Ellie asked, tears welling up in her eyes, as she tightly hugged Liz.

The doctor shook his head. If there had been a way, it would have been cured long ago. He had no way to treat this congenital condition.

"I prescribed some painkillers, hopefully it will make her feel better." After saying this to Grandma Daisy, he turned and left.

"Liss~." Alice knew this day would eventually come, but she didn't expect it to come so soon.

“Ellie, teach her magic! Perhaps once she can control the overflowing magic energy in her eyes, her eyes will recover,” Joseph comforted her. If she couldn't control the magic energy, Liss might still be in mortal danger, but he didn't say that aloud.

Finally, Joseph left behind a few gold coins and an Awakening Scroll before leading the others away.

"Sister, this is wonderful! I can learn magic too! Sister, please teach me now!"

"Hmm~"

In this world, there are generally three ways for humans to awaken their magical abilities. The first is that they will naturally awaken their abilities when they reach a certain age. This usually involves people with high talent, and they will be younger than normal people when they awaken their abilities, but this situation is very rare.

Once you are over 10 years old, you can go to a church to receive a blessing and complete baptism, or use an Awakening Scroll. The success rate of awakening through church blessing is much higher. They will first examine your aptitude and elemental compatibility, and then perform the awakening purposefully. Of course, it is not cheap.

Another type is the Awakening Scroll; the higher the quality of the scroll, the higher the success rate. Most people use Awakening Scrolls because if they fail, they can still choose a martial arts path, since the Awakening Ceremony is a one-time event.

If someone rushes into awakening before the age of 10, they may suffer serious side effects due to insufficient magic essence. Therefore, the Empire has decreed that the awakening ceremony must be performed on children over 10 years old!

Fortunately, using scrolls is relatively simple and can be accomplished with the assistance of other mages. The scrolls merely guide and activate the magical elements accumulated within the body over time, and do not have a significant impact on the body.

Ellie had undergone her awakening at the church, but she simply couldn't afford such exorbitant fees now; a baptism cost at least several hundred gold coins. A basic awakening scroll, on the other hand, only cost a few dozen silver coins.

Looking at the blue-glowing intermediate awakening scroll in her hand, worth several gold coins, Ellie was still somewhat dazed.

She didn't expect the guild to treat her so well, giving her a warm feeling.

Looking at Liz, who was tilting her head up to face her, Ellie began to explain some precautions to her sister. After she finished speaking and waited for her to be ready, she activated the scroll for her.

A pale yellow energy, drawn by Ellie, flowed into Lis's body. Lis also began to calm herself, sensing the changes in the magical energy within her body under her sister's guidance.

Then, pulsating light elements continuously appeared around her body, and with Ellie's help, they slowly merged into her body.

"She actually has the highest affinity for the light element, which is the complete opposite of you!" Luo Fan was stunned and couldn't believe they were sisters.

"Aren't light and dark elements mutually exclusive? Ellie, could it be that your father is a light elementalist?"

“He is of the earth element. Liz is not his child; she was adopted by his mother.”

"Oh, no wonder. But you don't look like that guy either, could it be...?"

"Shut up, or I'll throw you out!" All of Ellie's attention was on her sister; she had no interest in dealing with this annoying girl. She had always longed for a harmonious family, but reality had shattered her hopes.

"Oh, so Liss has successfully awakened?"

"I don't know. We'll have to wait until she absorbs these magical elements and completely integrates them with herself before it's considered a success."

About an hour later, Liz finally came to her senses.

"Sister, I did it! There are so many warm elements in my body now, except for those unruly things in my eyes."

"Okay, I'll teach you how to use magic every night from now on. When your magic power is strong enough, you might be able to control it."

"Thank you, sister. When can I go to school with you?"

Ellie noticed that her sister's spirits had improved a lot, but her body was still very fragile.

"Once you've recovered and controlled those bad guys in your eyes, I'll take you there."

"Yes, I will definitely work hard. I'll start meditating now!"

"Lise, get some sleep now. You've awakened the element of light, so meditation will be more effective during the day."

"Okay!"

"Luo Fan, are you able to communicate with her?"

"No, I just tried it, and there was no response."

"It would be great if you could talk to her every day. Why is it that you and Xiaoxue can do that?"

"I don't know either."

After a whole night of meditation, Ellie finally reached level 2 of the novice mage class. She glanced at her younger sister, who was still sleeping, before quietly getting up and leaving.

Grandma Daisy was preparing breakfast when Ellie walked over.

"Grandma, take these two gold coins and prepare some good food for Liz. She has successfully awakened and now needs to replenish her nutrition."

"Miss Lis has awakened too? That's wonderful, Miss. Don't worry, I know what to do."

"Yes, let her go to the backyard to sunbathe when she has time; it will be good for her."

"But didn't the doctor say before that she couldn't be in the sun? That would worsen her condition."

"It's alright now. She awakened the light attribute."

"OK."

Luo Fan suddenly remembered the large hole in the roof and instantly felt uneasy. It turned out that he was the culprit. Fortunately, the situation hadn't gotten any worse.

The part of Lis's body that remained on her side quietly swelled up and became much softer again, gently comforting the poor girl.

After glancing at Luo Fan, Ellie took it out.

Now, in order to improve her younger sister's life and to repay the person who helped her yesterday, she also needs to work hard to earn money.
