Chapter 8 The Prince of Jin Visits
It was almost lunchtime when Chu Yunjin woke up from Yan Cang's arms.
She looked up and greeted him, ignoring Yan Cang's still somewhat bewildered expression. Chu Yunjin rolled off him and quickly got up to wash and change: "Your Highness, please get up and change too. It's noon, don't forget we still have lunch with Jin Yue."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a series of hurried footsteps sounded outside, followed by Yan Jinyue's anxious voice: "They're here! The Prince of Jin has really arrived!"
Chu Yunjin, who was changing clothes in the room, paused and silently turned to look at Yan Cang, who had just sat up.
"Brother, the Prince of Jin has come to see you in person," Yan Jinyue said, standing outside the door. "Will you see him or not?"
"Yes!" Chu Yunjin answered loudly, "Have the steward lead Prince Jin to the front hall for tea."
Yan Jinyue snorted coldly and couldn't help but mutter, "Do you think you're in charge of the Prince's mansion now?"
Yan Cang put on his clothes, got up and opened the door, his tone calm: "Do as she says."
Yan Jinyue stomped her foot and left angrily.
After changing her clothes and dressing, Chu Yunjin said to Yan Cang, "I'll go see him."
Yan Cang was somewhat surprised: "You had someone bring him to the front hall, not so I could see him?"
“I told you you were locked in the study and hadn’t come out yet,” Chu Yunjin replied. “The front hall is bright; I’ll take a few more people with me. He won’t dare to do anything.”
He paused, then added, "You and Jinyue can hide in the back and listen."
Yan Cang paused upon hearing this.
He clearly never expected to be eavesdropping on someone.
However, he quickly realized that although he had never personally eavesdropped on other people's conversations, his spies were obviously doing so regularly in order to gather intelligence.
He hummed in agreement and said nothing more.
After finishing her makeup, Chu Yunjin arrived at the front hall with her personal maids, Ade and Zhaixing. Upon entering, she saw a young man in a brocade robe sitting there, elegantly drinking tea.
Chu Yunjin observed the other person calmly.
Prince Yan Heng of Jin was clearly the gentle and refined type of man. He was handsome and had a noble demeanor. He looked like a dignified and upright gentleman. No wonder the original owner was so devoted to him.
Perhaps in the original owner's mind, a nobleman from an imperial family should be a young master like the Prince of Jin, rather than a war god on the battlefield who is like a vengeful demon.
Everyone has different aesthetic standards, so naturally, the type of man they like will be different.
Chu Yunjin gestured for Ade and Zhaixing to wait outside, then walked into the hall alone, her face showing a hint of annoyance: "Yan Cang is unwilling to divorce."
When Prince Jin saw her enter, he had just put down his teacup and hadn't even had a chance to speak when he heard such a blunt statement. He immediately narrowed his eyes: "Even though the Imperial Concubine has been banished to the Cold Palace, he still refuses to divorce her?"
"Who knows what he's thinking?" Chu Yunjin walked to the chair and sat down, her face full of anger. "After coming back last night, he's been hiding in the study and won't come out for breakfast. It's almost noon now, and he hasn't come out for breakfast. The guards and maids in the palace are treating me like I'm some kind of heinous criminal... What does it matter to me whether he eats or not? Did I lock him in the study?"
Yan Heng was silent for a moment: "You can go and cause trouble again."
Chu Yunjin looked disgusted: "I don't want to see him. Seeing him annoys me."
"I can't refuse to see him." Yan Heng's voice softened slightly. "Jin'er, as long as he goes to the palace to request a divorce, you'll be free. I promise to marry you—"
Chu Yunjin looked extremely annoyed: "Can we go tomorrow? I don't want to see him right now."
“No.” Yan Heng shook his head firmly. “Time is of the essence; it will be too late by tomorrow.”
Chu Yunjin frowned: "Why?"
Yan Heng glanced outside the hall and lowered his voice, saying, "Pei Yi'an will arrive in the capital tomorrow. He brought a woman back with him this time."
"What does it have to do with me that he brought back a woman?" Chu Yunjin asked impatiently. "Who is that woman? Is he going to give her to Yan Cang as a concubine?"
“Of course not.” Yan Heng explained patiently, “I can’t tell you her identity yet, but she’s pregnant with Pei Yi’an’s child.”
Chu Yunjin was stunned.
"Therefore you must make the Prince of Yan give up today and personally go to the palace to ask for a peace treaty."
Chu Yunjin was taken aback: "But the Emperor will not allow us to divorce."
"That's exactly what I want, Father Emperor won't allow it." Yan Heng was utterly disgusted by her stupidity and insisted on explaining it to her word by word. "If Father Emperor agrees so easily, how will Prince Yan be punished? Right now, Yan Cang must be severely punished so that Yan Jinyue loses her protection and support. Only then can the woman Pei Yi'an brought back enter the Pei family's inner quarters safely and live there as Pei Yi'an's concubine."
Chu Yunjin pondered, "But Yan Jinyue is a princess. Even if Yan Cang is punished, Yan Jinyue is still the emperor's daughter."
“You don’t know anything—” Yan Heng gritted his teeth, then took a deep breath and said patiently, “As long as Yan Cang gets into trouble, I will naturally not let Yan Jin Yue make a scene in front of Father Emperor. You don’t need to worry about that.”
Chu Yunjin responded with an "oh".
"I should not linger here any longer." Yan Heng stood up. "Hurry up."
Chu Yunjin hurriedly called out to him, "Then... after I divorce Yan Cang, will you really marry me?"
Yan Heng suppressed his impatience and slowly nodded: "Yes."
"Okay, I believe you." Chu Yunjin nodded emphatically, a slight smile appearing on her face. "I'll go and make a scene with him right now."
Yan Heng left, and he left rather hastily.
I don't know if it was because she couldn't stand Chu Yunjin's stupid questioning.
Chu Yunjin stood in the hall watching when a cold snort suddenly came from behind her: "After divorcing her brother, she still wants to marry Prince Jin? What a stupid woman, she really knows how to daydream."
Chu Yunjin turned her head and watched the brother and sister come out of the inner hall: "If I don't pretend to be a little infatuated, what if he suspects that I've changed my mind?"
Yan Jinyue sneered: "Are you afraid he'll suspect something?"
“If he has doubts, it won’t be so easy for me to get information out of him.” Chu Yunjin frowned slightly. “You all heard what he said just now. I didn’t lie to you, did I? His scheme is actually vicious. I don’t want to cooperate with him anymore.”
Yan Jinyue's expression changed slightly, revealing anger.
She never expected Pei Yi'an to actually dare to bring a woman back.
They're really good at scheming.
"If you still don't believe it, just wait for the spies the prince sent out to return," Chu Yunjin said. "It's a fact that Pei Yi'an has pledged allegiance to Prince Jin, there's no need to doubt it anymore. The most urgent thing is to cancel the engagement and take away his military power."
Yan Jinyue remained silent, her beautiful face clouded with frost.
In the silence, Yan Cang suddenly spoke: "Are you still planning to cause trouble for me?"
Chu Yunjin was taken aback, then quickly shook her head: "Of course not."
What a load of nonsense.
She needs to quickly clean up the mess left behind by the original owner, and then kiss, hug, and lift her beloved husband high in the air.
Is she stupid to turn down a cool, handsome, rich, and powerful man and cause trouble every day, making a huge fuss?
