Where are you?
Mu Han raised his hand to wipe the tears from the corners of Wen Cao's eyes, and his voice became more gentle: "Tell me, what happened?"
Wen Cao sniffed, the feeling of grievance rising up again, and she choked up and said, "He wants to break up with me, saying... that he doesn't love me anymore."
"Who is he?" Mu Han asked patiently, his fingertips still lingering on the ends of her hair, with a soothing look.
Wen Cao raised her red eyes and looked at him, her voice full of loss: "Song Shuchi. He said he doesn't like me anymore."
Mu Han's gaze fell on the bruises on her face, and his brows furrowed slightly: "Then were the injuries on your body caused by him?"
"It's him...but it's not him." Wen Cao shook his head, his tone vague, as if he had something to hide.
As soon as he finished speaking, Mu Han's stomach growled at an inopportune moment. Wen Cao was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter and said gently, "Let's go eat first and talk while we eat."
Mu Han looked at her pale face and said softly, "Smile a little. Look how haggard you are."
Wen Cao forced a smile, and although it was covered with tears, it looked more lively than before: "I know there's a shop nearby that's really delicious. I'll take you there."
…
After they finished their meal, Mu Han went to the hotel and booked a double room. He then bought some blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing ointment at a nearby pharmacy before returning to the room. He unscrewed the ointment cap, dipped some on his fingertips, and gently rubbed it open before applying it to the bruise on Wen Cao's arm. "So, in your heart, you still like him, right?"
Wen Cao nodded silently, his eyes red again.
"What is he doing now?" Mu Han asked as he applied medicine to her, his movements so gentle as if he was afraid of hurting her.
"He's a big movie star now," Wen Cao's voice lowered, with a strong sense of inferiority, "He said I'm not worthy of him."
Mu Han chuckled upon hearing this, his tone filled with a determined tenderness: "If you ask me, it's him who's not worthy of you. Our Xiaocao is so gentle and lovely, and she dances so well. He's just blind."
Wen Cao's nose felt sore because of his teasing, and tears fell again: "But...but he kissed someone else in front of me."
Mu Han paused, then slowed down his movements and said softly, "Since he can do such a thing, don't dwell on it anymore. The world is so big, there are many people better than him."
"But I can't let go," Wen Cao cried even harder, "I don't know what's wrong. I know he's not a good person, but I still like him..."
Mu Han didn't say anything else, just took a tissue to wipe her tears and stayed by her side quietly. After a long time, Wen Cao was tired of crying and slowly fell asleep leaning against the headboard. Mu Han carefully laid her down and covered her with the quilt. Then he took his phone and tiptoed out of the room and dialed Han Yi's number.
The call was quickly picked up, and Han Yi's voice, a bit aggrieved, came over: "Didn't you say you were coming back yesterday? Why haven't you shown up yet?"
Mu Han softened his tone, adding a hint of coquettishness: "I have something urgent to do, please don't be angry, okay? By the way, can you help me check someone?"
Han Yi was helpless and angry: "Okay, okay, who made me your friend? Tell me, what do you want to check?"
"Wen Cao," Mu Han's voice deepened, "Do you still remember her?"
Han Yi was stunned for a moment and asked doubtfully, "Haven't you been in touch with her for almost three years? Why did you suddenly think of her? What happened?"
"She has some emotional issues," Mu Han said without elaborating. "Please help me check her relationship with that guy named Song Shuchi. Find out as much as you can."
"I see," Han Yi replied, but couldn't help asking, "When will you be back?"
Mu Han touched his nose with a guilty conscience: "I can't say for sure. I'll go back as soon as I finish dealing with things here. I must go as soon as possible."
After hanging up the phone, Mu Han stood in the corridor for a while to enjoy the breeze before turning around and going back to the room.
Elsewhere, Lu Zhizhi headed straight to the office the moment he got off the plane. He'd been away for the past few days, and there had been a backlog of documents requiring his signature. He'd been buried in work all afternoon, not even having time for a drink. By the time he finally finished, it was already dark. He figured an apology to Mu Han that evening might help him calm down, so he drove to Mu Han's house.
But when he looked up, the windows of Mu Han's house were pitch black, and there was no light on. He walked to the door and knocked gently, but there was no movement from inside. Lu Zhizhi didn't give up, so he took out his phone and dialed Mu Han's number. It rang for a long time before someone reluctantly picked up the phone.
"Hanhan, where are you?" There was a subtle hint of flattery in Lu Zhizhi's voice.
Mu Han's voice came through the receiver, polite but distant, and a bit impatient: "Where I am, it seems to be my own business, right? It's nothing important, I'll hang up first."
"If you dare to hang up," Lu Zhizhi's tone deepened, with a hint of threat, "I will go to your house and block you right now."
Mu Han sighed helplessly: "If you have something to say, tell me quickly. I have something else to do here."
Lu Zhizhi's voice softened again, with a hint of caution: "You are not at home now, so where are you?"
"I'm in S City." Mu Han answered slowly, with no emotion in his tone.
Lu Zhizhi's heart skipped a beat and he asked, "What are you doing there?"
"Mr. Lu, don't worry about that." Mu Han said and hung up the phone.
Lu Zhizhi stood in the empty corridor, holding his phone, and whispered to himself, "Even if you don't tell me, I can find it myself."
Mu Han had just hung up the phone when he heard some movement in the room. He pushed the door open and saw Wen Cao was awake. He walked over and said gently, "Xiao Cao, are you hungry? Come on, I'll take you to eat something good."
Wen Cao nodded, and the two walked out of the hotel side by side, arriving at a nearby snack street. They sat down at a barbecue restaurant, and soon the table was filled with grilled skewers, grilled chicken wings, grilled eggplant, and several bottles of ice-cold beer. Wen Cao picked up a skewer of grilled tendons and devoured it with big mouthfuls, as if trying to swallow all the grievances.
Mu Han looked at her from the side and said softly, "Eat slowly, no one will snatch it from you."
He ate very slowly, his eyes occasionally falling on Wencao. As Wencao ate, tears suddenly fell without warning. Seeing this, Mu Han half-jokingly said, "Why? Is it because the food is so delicious that you are moved to tears?"
Wen Cao shook her head, tears falling even harder. Mu Han handed her a bottle of beer and said gently, "If you're sad, drink some. It will make you feel better if you vent."
Wen Cao picked up the beer, unscrewed the cap, and poured it into her mouth. The cold liquid slid down her throat, bringing a spicy and stimulating feeling. Mu Han didn't drink, but just looked at her quietly, with a hint of heartache in his eyes. After a long while, Wen Cao's cheeks were red and her eyes were blurry, obviously drunk. Mu Han paid the bill, and with great effort helped her up, and finally took her back to the hotel.
Looking at Wen Cao sleeping unsteadily on the bed, Mu Han's thoughts drifted away - in his previous life, he knew that Lu Zhizhi would abandon him, but he still foolishly stayed by his side until tragedy struck. In this life, with him around, he would never let Wen Cao repeat the same mistake.
The next morning, Mu Han woke up early. He borrowed a small pot from the hotel kitchen and made a bowl of hangover soup for Wen Cao. He also ordered a large breakfast of porridge, steamed buns, and side dishes, filling the entire table. After everything was ready, he walked to the bedside and gently called Wen Cao to his feet, "Lazy boy, hurry up! If you don't get up soon, I'll eat all the delicious food I made."
Wen Cao opened his eyes drowsily. When he heard the word "delicious" and smelled the fragrance in the air, he instantly woke up. He sat up immediately and looked at the table with sparkling eyes: "It smells so good!"
