Chapter 26 Loquat Dew

By the time Xiao Chengyi's cough subsided, the train had already traveled quite a distance.

Jiang Xile had no intention of prying into other people's privacy. Although she had a great liking for the soldiers who defended the country, she never thought of exposing herself.

Although there are still two bottles of recovery potion in the space, taking out such a heaven-defying item in this era would be tantamount to asking for a huge problem.

If Jiang Xile were a researcher or even a doctor, it would be understandable, but she is just a young girl who has just graduated from high school.

Therefore, people should do what is appropriate for their position, and it's best not to try things that are too far beyond their capabilities.

With her own safety above all else, Jiang Xile felt at ease and began to wash up. It was already very late, so she should go to sleep.

The sleeper car was much quieter than the hard seat car. Apart from the occasional suppressed cough from Xiao Chengyi next to me, there was nothing else.

Summer mornings always arrive a little earlier. Through the car window, golden sunlight shines on your face, and the intense light awakens the little one who is still fast asleep.

As soon as Jiang Xile opened her eyes, she heard Xiao Chengyi coughing. Medicine was not as advanced in this era.

Perhaps it was because of his identity that she felt a little too compassionate, and Jiang Xile took out a bottle of loquat syrup made with an ancient secret recipe from her spatial storage.

The glass bottle didn't look out of place, and she had already cleaned off the labels.

"This is loquat syrup. I bought it from an old Chinese medicine doctor a while ago. It works well for stopping coughs. If you trust him, you can give it a try!"

Xiao Chengyi was stunned for a moment, not expecting this aloof girl to do such a thing. His heart warmed slightly, but his eyes were filled with apology.

"I'm sorry to have bothered you last night!"

Jiang Xile paused for a moment, holding the medicine bottle, never expecting this soldier's thought process to unfold like this.

"It's okay, I slept quite well. But since you're coughing like this, it's best to go to the hospital to get it checked out as soon as possible. Here's some loquat syrup for you, it's just a small token of my appreciation!"

"I cannot accept your gift without having done anything in return. You should keep it for yourself!"

"Things should be given to those who need them, otherwise it's a waste. Are you hoping I'll get sick?"

"Of course not, but I am a soldier. I cannot take a single needle or thread from the people. We have discipline, and this is really inappropriate!"

"Oh, I see. I was being presumptuous. I was just thinking that since you were coughing so badly, and this medicine is really effective, I didn't think much of it!"

"You are a kind-hearted comrade, I appreciate your kindness, but I really can't accept the gift."

"Battalion Commander! What can't we accept?"

Liu Haizhu, who had gone to fetch water, returned with the kettle just in time to hear Xiao Chengyi's last words.

He looked up at the female comrade standing next to his battalion commander with some curiosity.

"Comrade Jiang, is there something you need from the battalion commander?"

"Comrade Liu, I'm fine. I just heard Battalion Commander Xiao coughing badly. I have a bottle of loquat syrup here that works well for coughs."

So I thought I'd give it to him to try, but Battalion Commander Xiao said that we had discipline and hadn't accepted it!

"Loquat syrup?"

"right!"

"My second uncle once told me that loquats are a good thing. Can they really stop coughing?"

"I used it once before, and I felt the effect was pretty good!"

"Really? Well then, Comrade Jiang, how much did you pay for that loquat syrup? How about I pay you in exchange?"

"ah?"

"Pillar! Don't break the rules!"

"Commander, I didn't! I only thought of exchanging money because I had nothing else. Don't be so rigid!"

"snort!"

Xiao Chengyi snorted coldly and turned his head away, clearly a little angry. Jiang Xile was also in a dilemma, as exchanging money in public was definitely not appropriate.

"Comrade Liu, how about this? My loquat syrup isn't expensive, only one yuan a bottle. If it's convenient for you, you can give me a receipt of equal value. Cash is fine, though!"

"bill?"

"Yes, this counts as bartering, so it doesn't violate any policies, right?"

"No, no, you're right, let me look for them! The group leader gave me a lot of tickets when we came out, wait a minute!"

Within two minutes, Liu Haizhu took out several military tickets from his satchel and handed them to Jiang Xile.

"Here are five jin of cotton coupons and ten jin of grain coupons. Would you mind exchanging these for your loquat syrup?"

Jiang Xile was pleasantly surprised when she saw the coupons Liu Haizhu handed her. These cotton coupons were a rare commodity, especially popular in Northeast China.

"Isn't this a bit too much? Otherwise, I'll just take these five jin of cotton coupons!"

Liu Haizhu scratched his head after hearing this. He wasn't quite sure about the exact market value of these bills, but out of a desire not to let the young girl suffer any loss, he gave her a little more.

Just as Liu Haizhu was in a dilemma, Xiao Chengyi spoke up:

"Comrade Jiang, please take them all. These receipts are nothing. Thank you for the medicine, and I appreciate your kind gesture."

With his own battalion commander speaking, Liu Haizhu no longer needed to hesitate and shoved the receipts into Jiang Xile's hand.

"Comrade Jiang, our battalion commander has already given the order, so please take it! Thank you for the medicine!"

Since they had already said so, Jiang Xile decided not to refuse. In any case, the loquat syrup was indeed effective, and she hadn't really taken advantage of them.

"In that case, I'll accept it without hesitation. These cotton coupons are exactly what I need. Thank you!"

Liu Haizhu took the loquat syrup from Jiang Xile, opened it, and smelled it. A strong herbal aroma immediately wafted out.
