Clearly, Maha was used to the strange and unsettling people around him. He chatted happily with them, drank a few glasses of wine, and even flirted with a glamorous woman. It wasn't until an hour later, when someone reminded him, that he remembered Lu Feng.
A servant came over and reminded Lu Feng that Prince Maha wanted to see him. Lu Feng stood up and followed the servant upstairs to the second floor. In a luxuriously decorated private room, Maha was sitting on the sofa. When he saw Lu Feng walk in, he stood up, smiled, and extended his hand, saying, "Long time no see, my dearest friend."
Lu Feng got goosebumps when he heard this. If we're talking about true brothers, it has to be him.
The two shook hands with an unusual warmth; anyone who didn't know better would think they were long-lost brothers. Lu Feng exchanged a few polite words and sat down on the sofa. Looking at the room, he felt that this wasn't the place to discuss business.
On the table in front of them were drinks, dice, and some strange toys. Behind the sofa stood a dozen or so girls dressed in a way that was quite unconventional, but they were dancing to the music.
Only Lu Feng and Maha were sitting at the scene. Even Sirami stood aside like a servant. This scene made Lu Feng feel like he had returned to ancient times and understood what it meant to be a king or general.
"I'm not really suited to this kind of environment," Lu Feng said awkwardly.
“President Lu, you need to learn to enjoy yourself. Look at all these beauties. There’s a saying, ‘Beauty is food for the eyes,’ so enjoy your meal, drinks, and the sight of these beautiful women. Sirami, you were practicing singing recently, so sing one.” Maha instructed.
Sirami picked up the microphone and started singing a local song. The backup dancers behind her strolled over from both sides of Lu Feng's sofa to dance. Several servants squatted by the table. They could point to whatever they wanted to eat and did nothing but open their mouths.
Looking at the scene, Lu Feng sighed inwardly, "This is the real Emperor Set!"
Maha chatted idly for a few minutes, asking Lu Feng how he had been these past few years. After having a few drinks, he finally got to the point and asked, "I've been having a bit of a headache lately. Our country uses a currency pegged to the US dollar, and in the last few months, there's been a constant outflow of domestic capital from Thai baht to US dollars. This is a real headache for the country. Although I don't handle this, I still want to share the burden for the country."
“In fact, Thailand’s economy has developed rapidly in the last ten years, and the influx of a large amount of international capital has indeed created economic prosperity. However, this money is all ‘smart money.’ Most of it is concentrated in the financial sector, and at the slightest sign of trouble, it will naturally run away as fast as possible.” Lu Feng explained to him, “A large outflow of capital will cause a run on foreign exchange reserves, just like water in the human body. Losing a lot of water can lead to dehydration and death.”
“I understand that principle. Why is there capital outflow? To put it bluntly, it's because of some kind of disturbance.” Maha leaned forward and asked, “Didn’t you say you have connections all over the country? Do you have any concrete information? Is a war going to break out?”
Lu Feng was also taken aback when he heard this question. He didn't expect that the problem here would be attributed to China instead of the United States.
"I'm not talking about this little disturbance, it has nothing to do with that. I'm talking about the United States. I heard that the Federal Reserve there is going to raise interest rates," Lu Feng replied.
Maha clicked his tongue softly, clearly dissatisfied with Lu Feng's answer. He beckoned to the side, and a cigar was handed over. The servant next to Lu Feng also handed him a cigar.
Maha took a puff and said, "I've heard that Asia is going to be in chaos."
"Chaos? Where does chaos lie? I haven't heard of any such news." Lu Feng said to him, "To stabilize the currency exchange rate, we need to break the fixed exchange rate of the Thai baht pegged to the US dollar, or implement individual quotas, with each person having a foreign exchange exchange limit of no more than a certain amount..."
“What’s the use of saying all this? We have an agreement with the United States to open up. Besides, if a war really breaks out, I need to have a backup plan. This year, I’ve already converted a batch of my assets into US dollars and deposited them there,” Maha said quite frankly.
Even princes would flee to the United States if they sensed something was amiss, let alone other capital.
Seeing his tense state, Lu Feng reassured him, "There won't be a fight. Please don't spread this around. I heard it from a friend who's above me. If we want the Thai baht to be stable, we can't give the US any face. As long as we don't send foreign exchange out, the currency will be stable. A slight depreciation is also good, as it can promote exports and international tourism."
Lu Feng talked to him for a while from a monetary and financial perspective, telling him that he could take some actions, as long as the scale was not large, the United States would not say anything, and there was no need to worry about war. They were unwilling and dared not restrict foreign exchange. However, Lu Feng also came up with a plan for him.
“If the Thai baht is indeed inflated and has been severely devalued, then I have a ‘suffocation therapy’,” Lu Feng said mysteriously.
"Asphyxiation therapy?"
“Yes, since this bubble is bound to burst sooner or later, instead of letting outsiders burst it, why don’t you burst it yourself? You can short the Thai baht yourself, and when the baht depreciates to a certain level, announce some favorable conditions to make foreign investors believe that the bubble has burst, and then everything will be fine,” Lu Feng said in a deep voice.
Upon hearing this, Maha was astonished and looked at Lu Feng in disbelief, saying, "You have the potential to be the Minister of Finance!"
"No, no, I just know a little about economics," Lu Feng said modestly.
"I'll call those people from the finance department over tomorrow, and you can have a chat."
"ah?"
Lu Feng's suggestion was absolutely ruthless, and from a historical perspective, it was indeed the right thing to do. Rather than letting Soros and Robertson make the money, it would be better to let Maha make it.
